OMG 😳 thank you so much. I just adopted a beagle who is very pregnant. I don't want to get all the fancy stuff because after this litter she has I'm going to get her spayed. Sooooooo this info will help out so much
We use one of these heat pads: amzn.to/3KXfe63 You can see it in use in this litter update video of ours: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--jZ2z4vj6_M.htmlsi=fpz_Kc-RoVbF5PF0
Great question! That’s “nesting”behavior. In the wild she would be digging out a burrow. You can put some pet blankets or towels in there for her to play with. She’ll most likely stop it after the whelping. If not then you will just have to tidy up after her excavations! 👍
thank you for the fast reply! She tends to do it, even after the puppies are born, making it hard to put anything down in her box. We put thick carpet in there and she dug it up. I’m considering buying one of those pads that goes all the way around a plastic pool to hopefully allow her to dig without covering her puppies up. I’ve done newspaper, etc. but she just shreds everything up and then they are on the bare floor.
Hello and thank you for the video,it was very informative. I am thinking of breeding my sweet English lab,my first litter I'm somewhat nervous. I am glad I found your site thanks again!

We address this in detail on the last chapter of our q&a 15 video. Here’s a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-13p-gtV5dKs.htmlsi=M16Z4hg1ol0Qinyz
The Puppy Rail creates room for pups to live when a tired momma lays down and is explained in our Q & A 2 video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rbjz1lgoNBg.html
One more question, do you use the same washing machine for your dog whelping pads as you do for your family? I was worried about whether or not this was sanitary…. I absolutely love your channel!! We’ve had five litters of Labradors so far and I’ve learned a lot from your channel.
My very well-meaning wife decided to buy one of those pools like that and it happened a half like I don't know one of the cartoons that have puppies I had to get rid of it in one day because she kept scratching at it because it had pictures of puppies on it is he thought that was one of her puppies that wouldn't move
Such a great video!! Our teddy bear is having puppies next month. This will be the first for us and I was feeling a tad overwhelmed. Thank you for sharing!!!
The 8 panel pens work real well for the first 5 weeks or so. Then you can get a larger one with a taller wall and that works out good for the medium and large breeds. The small breeds can stay in the same pen all the way . If you start out with a taller wall you won’t have good access to the whelping box. 👍
Great question! Others have asked and we answer it in detail on our latest Q&A Video. Here’s a link to it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bVIniLqcI6s.html
We have a pad on standby if we need it. I’m not a big fan of heat lamps. I discuss this in our video Q&A 8. Here’s a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d2tskG_c4cc.html
WOW, this was very helpful. I need a solution fast as I got a great Pyrenees two weeks ago and was not told she was already pregnant! She was so thin I had no idea until I decided to bathe her.
we're going to need one of those pools soon. Are there any stores that sell them year round because i dont think i'll be able to find one by whelping time
Ace Tru Value sells them or can order them. The Dollar Store has them sometimes too. Lots if people have them in storage too. You can ask friends and offer to replace theirs later when they are available. 👍
Thanks a millions times for this video, Must Love Labs! We are expecting a litter of sheepadoodles in a few weeks and were unsure of what type of whelping box to use. This is perfect for us.
Pet Parents stopped selling Whelping pads for some reason. The other brand we use is EZWhelp. I like their pads just as much and we do use them. They cost a little more but we’ll worth it. Here’s a link and I put them on the website as well. EZWhelp 48” pad amzn.to/3uBZ89U mustlovelabs.com/tools Alan
Great question! I recommend the eight panel pen 24 inches tall. There is a link to it in the description of the video and here it is too. Enjoy! amzn.to/3Ocel9D
I watched the video and have a follow-up question. So it’s not that the puppies are provided optional spacing to go *in* the tubing, but rather it’s to create that nook of space on the floor if a momma dog leans against the tubing side, right? 😀
Well thanks! We designed all the text only designs. A Fiverr.com artist did the ones with graphics. I sent pictures of my channel theme and they gave me options to choose from. -Alan
Thank you so much for this video! We took in a stray GSD who was in heat. Never having a female dog before she was near the end of her pregnancy when we realized. We got her a vet appointment right away. We had watched this video when we had an inkling and started acquiring the supplies. We weren’t totally prepared and were waiting on some Amazon deliveries, when she whelped on my bed. Got them all (6 pups!) into this whelping box and it is working beautifully. I’m getting ready to watch your other videos now. Thanks
I have one on standby and never have needed to use it. It’s the same as the one in our dog houses. We let our females whelp in our home so that may be part of it. If I thought for a second some extra heat was needed I wouldn’t hesitate. You can see the one we use on the tools page of our website. Here’s a link: www.mustlovelabs.com/tools
@@must_love_labs Thank you Allen! Just found your channel (subscribed) and website... Love it, Great information! Will be setting up the Whelp pool and pen inside as well. Thank you once again for the advice and for all you do!
You could try them and see. As long as they create a space for pups to hide under when momma lays down, that is the goal. The plastic drain tube we use is very durable and lasts litter after litter.
