When a Dungeons and Dragons Mini isn't Painted

I remember when I painted my first mini. It was a griffon. I accidentally mixed gold in with yellow so it had a sparkleling butt.

He’s feeling better than “Pennyman” - the character represented by a penny.

So that’s how my current mini army is seeing itself then, strange this feels.. disturbing

Lol, to be fair the "Monochrome hero" is how any fig would be if I even tried painting one with these hands....

My mini I'm going paint is a pikachu dressed up as a wizard, my character is a Wooden Geppettin Wizard. (A Geppettin is basically a sentient doll, either porcelain, wooden, or stuffed.)

It would have been funny if one of the guys was a six foot talking chess piece. Our minis are cheap.

My characters: 'Whoa, you look like you are made out of actual stone! Are you? What's that like?' I shit you not: they would want to know everything about this colour-less man, and just be generally hyped to be adventuring with him. I dunno, my characters just think that learning about the world is half the fun when they're setting out to ruin the BBEG's day.

I use a little stone turtle made from petrified wood. Not just when playing Tortles. I'm quite happy with my marker.

When you can't pay 50 buck on hero forge to het it painted but you also don't have the supplies/time/skill to do it yourself

BEHOLD! FOR I AM THE CHEAPEST DM TO EVER NOT USE THEATER OF THE MIND: I use generic colored Meeples/Peeples pawns for my PCs, and wrap colored rubber-bands on them to distinguish them from the same colored pawns I use for NPCs. Non-humanoid monsters are doodled on tiny bits of re-usable dry-erase carboard propped up on little stands that fit within the 1-inch squares. I put some silly-putty on a plastic disc and had it be an ooze. The most I have spent on a mini is a Pathfinder dragon that I am leaving unpainted so that I can consider it to be any color that my games require.

As someone who just got into mini painting, and a fledgling DM who just yesterday was using unpainted / half painted minis, this is too real.

Man, i recently dipped my toes into d&d and had to be a dungeon master, making my own story. Watched a few videos about DM-ing and such, saw a silly video on my shorts from this guy, didn't think much of it. Next day saw a few more, decided to subscribe and check out the channel now I'm binge watching him every few nights to get a good laugh and learn things about d&d, i now also have a flirtatious bard character i worked on that I'm never going to use due to me being the DM. This man is awesome, i get a laugh and interesting story ideas at the same time. Keep the amazing work up, I'm super happy I found you!

As some that can't paint or color it myself its pain hell if I tried doing it myself it'll turn out like the rainbow guy

There needs to be a bit where a mini with messed-up paint comes in. Sometimes it's better to just leave them gray...

My mini army being mostly unpainted: "When will it be our turn? Why did only a few of the gods get colours and the royalty?! Even the Chaos Army doesn't have them yet!"

As someone who goes around on the internet calling myself Gray I feel this on a deep level

And this is why I do miniature painting on commission, not everybody has time for this part of the hobby, or they want their models at a standard they can’t get to themselves

My first minis were unpainted since I bought the CR, WoA, LoD, ToEE, ToA, and DoMM D&D board games. I got heroes, villains, minions, _and_ map tiles out of it. 😎

He got so scared he stooped existing for a second there.

A PC in the campaign I DM actually turned completely gray after becoming a Hex Blade Warlock.

Your videos are becoming my go-to mini study break - they’re always so funny and a great way to just take a moment to be silly and light hearted in the midst of reading a lot of very dense and difficult material

One can only imagine the horrors our characters experience when the DM doesn't have a figure for an NPC and just uses a d6 as a stand-in.

I leave mine grey so I can use them for multiple characters without having to repaint or paint an identical mini. It also works amazing for npcs.

Barbarian was so colourful the palading glitched

ALL ORANGE. I would be the guy that dips the whole character in orange paint.

The campaign I'm currently DMing has a mix of painted, unpainted, a tiny Mr. Spock(because he can't find his halfling minis and it was smaller than the other characters), and a bunch of monsters stolen from my old Hero Quest game. Plus a few construction paper squares and rectangles for monsters too big for any mini I had available to me. lol

A friend of mine wanted me to help him paint his WarHammer figurines. I had to decline unless he wanted color shakily applied. I can't even solder minute circuits right...

That "ah!" at the end sells this

i would literally steal the unpainted mini, run off, paint it, come back the next session and give it to them.

Meanwhile my character is a rainbow jester named Chester whose colors I purposely mixed with colors that should not go together.

For a second I thought the Ad-Barian would appear, but no... It was just another Barbarian.

The barbarian looks like he has a Dana Howl paintjob. She does great work with zenithal priming and colour glazing, but it's just not my preferred style.

The ending really got me.
