My mum lost her sight when I was around 6. About 4 years later when she could walk my family were given the most amazing guide dog called Lewis. He bought joy back into our house and really helped my mum not only physically but mentally too. People were no longer scared to come up to her and she found a massive friendly dog walking community. Unfortunately Lewis had to retire, he was old and couldn't do his job as well as he used to. He was taken to a lady in Norfolk and apparently he is having the best time ever. She was very lonely and Lewis takes her out of the house and gives her company. We will never know when he dies or if he has died which is a blessing to me. Lewis will always remain this warm loving guide dog in my heart.

A friend of mine sadly lost her eyesight a few years ago and she got a guide dog about half a year after being fully blind. Her dog helped her psychically but it's often forgotten how much they can help the person mentally again. I didn't think I would see my friend smile again but thanks to Nala she's living her life like she did when she had sight, happier even! Where I'm from guide dogs are not government funded (absolute BS if you ask me) and its defiantly a cause that should be helped more (meaning for both guide dogs that are still working and retired ones too). This is a very sweet and insightful video :)

I wish dogs had the average life span of a human. I don't like the thought that my dog won't be beside me one day.

Adele... Hello, I was wondering if after all these years you would like a new guide dog.

Truly lovely. I am a puppy raiser for Leader Dogs for the Blind, which means I take a 7-week-old puppy, love him and train him like my own dog, and then give him back when he is 12-15 months so that one day he can become this for someone. My 9th puppy, a male lab/golden retriever mix named "Watson", goes back for formal guide training in February. Yes, it is very hard. But when I see videos like this one and hear our clients speak about how their Leader Dog has changed their lives, how can I not? It is an honor to play a role in this amazing work! Thanks Buzzfeed and Purina for showing the world what makes Leader Dogs so special! (And just an FYI, Purina donates their food for every single dog in our kennel, totaling upwards of 200 at any one time.)

Guide dogs are incredible my mums saved possibly saved her life like 5 years ago because she tried to cross a road when a truck was coming, but pur dog stood in front of her and stopped her moving, she was retired about 4 years ago though because of arthritis and is still as much a puppy today at 12 I'd her body let's her be

AUGH. Why am I crying? I am SO glad that he's keeping her with him and his new guide dog. It usually devastates working dogs when they have to retire because it often means they move on to a new owner. Whether it's a search and rescue, guide, therapy dog, etc. Adele and Gayla seem as inseparable from each other as they are from him.

Trying not to say this in a horrible way, but what do blind people do? If I was blind I wouldn't be able to work, I don't know how I would enjoy life. I just can't understand how blind people can stay happy, I couldn't do it.

My family raised a guide dog puppy. He was with us for 16 months before he left for training. We miss him every day and if, when he retires he needs a home, I would be on a plane to get him in immediately.
