Orthodox here. The Theotokos has a very high place in our church and in our hearts. The last verse of "Lord I Have Cried" at Vespers and of the Praises as Matins is dedicated to her, the last petition of most litanies, the last verse of each ode of the canon, and the last ode are all dedicated to her.

Hail mary full of grace the lord is with thee blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb jesus holy mary mother of god Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of death Amen 🙏🙌✝️
Jesus is the center of Catholicism and Mass every Sunday. Praying for Mary's intercession isn't idolatry. Catholics and Orthodox Christian's both understand Mary being the one who gave birth to Jesus would have a special relationship with him like all mothers. It's a sign of respect to all women to recognize this.
That's 100% perfectly fine. You should of course pray directly to God! Loving Our Lady only glorifies God because we are loving something He loves so dearly Himself. Thank you for respecting and loving her, God will remember and reward you for that.
The entomology of the word “pray” is basically to “ask”. In old english, people used to say stuff like “I pray thee, harken unto my words” and such like. We aren’t praying to the Theotokos to save our souls in the way that we pray to Jesus Christ. We just believe that Christians who have passed on, are alive in Christ. We also know from scripture that the prayers of the righteous hold a special place in the ear of our God. Who, besides Himself, could be more righteous than the one who God chose to be the vessel of the salvation of this world? Not praying for her help is like trying to plant a garden and using your bare hands to dig the hole instead of the shovel sitting right next to you. Bad analogy, but still. I understand, though. There are so many God given tools that would help me “work out my salvation with fear and trembling” that I don’t give enough of my attention to. I’m a recent convert, so I don’t, as often as I should, as for the help of the blessed mother or give her the praise she is due outside of church services.

Nowhere in the Bible did God ever deify Mary. She was indeed blessed amongst woman because God chose her to bring Jesus into the world but she went on to have other children. She didn’t remain a virgin her whole life and she committed sins just like any other human being. So to worship her and build idols of her is blasphemous in God’s eyes and it breaks the first 2 commandments.
As Catholics, we do not see Mary as a goddess. I repeat: we already know that Mary isn't a deity. We acknowledge that Mary is God's most exalted creation due to her special role as the Mother of God and her humility. But She's not divine like God Himself.
@@MtCarmel1251no, Mary is not the "most exalted creation". That's Christ himself. Read ALL passages in the Bible relating to Mary and you'll get the truth of it. There is no purpose to worship her as the "co-redemptress in Christ"
@@aquicklad972 Its a VERY BIG heresy to say that Christ is the best creation of God Jesus is with His Father and is 100% human and 100% Divine and those Natures cannot be separated or treated separelty Mary is only human
@@miguelpaivabezerra34 it's also HUGE heresy to say any one human is God's greatest creation, above the others. ALL need a savior. Jesus Christ was the only one to live a PERFECT LIFE and follow God's commands perfectly, despite being fully man and having all temptations and urges upon Him. It is NOT heresy to call God the greatest.
It's wrong to elevate a human to the level of equality with God. And in many senses she replaces Jesus for many Catholics--for example as the sole intermediary between us and God the Father. Read your Bibles people, this is nothing but idolatry. Mary was an exemplary lady among many others in the Bible. She was never intended to be Jesus' competition, and she herself said don't ask me to solve your problems --ask Him!
Not true. you have a lot of assumptions about catholics. If you really care , you can look up what Mother Mary means to catholics on websites like catholics answers or other catholic resources, plenty of videos on RU-vid about it to. .. or even look up writings on her by early church fathers. Why even Martin Luther had no qualms with Mother Mary and how catholics venerated her.
I heard many people say: No woman can change a man. Wroooooong! MAMMA MARY can! She did changed hearts of many men and she will in the future! Ave Maria.

@@Nick-ed3tm “In Luke 1:28, the word that the angel uses is kecharitomene. So it’s not literally “full of grace,” but its root word is the Greek verb “to give grace” (charitoo). The word is the past perfect tense, meaning that the action of giving grace has already occurred. It was not something that was about to happen to her but something that has already been accomplished. The word was also used as a title. The angel did not say, “Hail Mary, you are kecharitomene” but rather, “Hail kecharitomene.” Therefore the word is not simply an action but an identity. It is thus difficult to translate because it is a unique use of the word. It has been translated by various scholars as “full of grace”, “graced one,” “one who has been made graced,” “highly graced,” and “highly favored.” In the last instance the translator is using the concept that to be graced by God is to find favor with God. It would appear that any translation should use the word “grace,” because that is the root word.”
@@patrickpelletier9298 but let me ask you this we are all graced by God but yet are still sinners so how can Mary being human herself who was also graced by God not have sin and do you honestly think Joseph and Mary didn’t express their love eachother by having you know what
@@Nick-ed3tm why would Mary, knowing roughly how children are conceived, respond “how can this be, since I do not know man?”. At the very least, she knew that a couple would get married and roughly nine months later, the woman gives birth. But she is saying in a future verb in the Greek, I won’t ever know a man. Joesph knew of this vow, and didn’t object to it, with the Orthodox holding the belief he was an older man, and had already had kids and was a widower.
Genesis 3: “I will put emnity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers. You will strike at his/her heel, while he/she strikes at your head.” God can’t be referring to Eve as “the woman” since Eve doesn’t have emnity with the devil, having listened to it. On the other hand, Mary is “full of Grace” and “the Lord is with” her. Also, the offspring of Mary conquers the offspring of the Devil, which is sin. Therefore, Mary is “The Woman” who has emnity with the Devil, and does not sin. There is no other person described in the Bible to have “Emnity” with the devil like that.
Also, in the original Greek translation of Luke, the Archangel Gabriel greets the Blessed Virgin Mary with a unique Greek word for "full of grace" that doesn't exist anywhere else in the Bible for anyone else. Our English translation is imperfect and doesn't give enough emphasis like the Greek. This indicates she is at a completely different level of grace above all other humans except Jesus Christ.
It doesn’t. Only came by hearsay centuries after her death, which occurred most likely in Ephesus where she had been living with John the Apostle and Elder. Mary herself declared that she rejoiced in God “her Savior” (Luke 1:46-56). Only a sinner has need of the Savior.
@@curumo014 Catholics still hold that Mary was in need of God, her saviour. That Mary was free from sin was a gift of God; a gift which means God saved her BEFORE she asked of it in light of her unique role instead of after like all other people. The gold that made the arc of the covenant was from impure Egyptian idols, but it was melted down and purified before it was made into the Ark. Mary, who is the Ark of the New Covenant, went through the same process. (And yes, she is the new Ark as the old arc contained the Law, the Priesthood staff of Aaron, and the Holy Bread; Jesus is the Law, the High Priest, and the Bread of Life.)
@@frsamfrenchoh wow. So Jesus was praying to Moses and Elijah there? Interesting. Why would you say does Jesus pray to Moses or Elijah? If that’s your precedence, I guess it’s fine to pray to Mary when she appears before you.
Because God applied the Sons death on the Cross to her conception, preserving her from the stain of original sin, and thus giving God a perfect vessel (unstained by sin) to bring Jesus into the world.
That is so sweet and such a refreshing change from the awful fear the internet is so full of. God bless you, and may our Blessed Lady shine graces on you. 🙏🙏🙏
Quando Gesù era inchiodato sulla croce disse a Maria: "Ecco tuo Figlio", e a Giovanni: "Ecco tua madre". Idealmente egli ha donato Maria a tutta l'umanità ❤❤❤
I find it so funny that catholics pay to the Virgin Mary, (or whatever you call it, since I know ya'll always say you're not paying to her), even though she was only a Virgin for Jesus's birth. Like, even if you go off the theory the Jesus's brothers were Joseph's kids from another marriage, she was still married for multiple years, it'd make no sense for her to still be a virgin
Oh, this heresy again. See, back then, the family unit was incredibly important. The brothers of the Lord were what we would call COUSINS. Even the Bible shows this. Every single time we see the name of their parents, it isn’t Mary and Joesph, it’s others. Additionally, and this is HUGE, at the foot of the cross, Jesus gives Mary to John as John’s mother. Now we know who the mother of John is (she was next to him as well), but none of Jesus “brothers” were there. But even if they weren’ there, they would be required by the law of the time to take care of her as the next child. So what does this tell us? Jesus was an ONLY CHILD.
@@patrickpelletier9298 even if that's the case, it still requires Mary to be married for several years without once having sex with her husband, which wasn't even something she was told to do so why would she do it?
@@hioman tradition answers this (the same pesky oral teachings mentioned in 2 Thess). She took a vow to not have sex, and told her dad (who was silent). Then when she was of the age to be married, she was married to a relative, so she would be cared for, and when she told him and he didn’t object, it was binding. John tells us that if everything related to Jesus was written down it would fill volumes upon volumes, so all four Gospel writers didn’t focus too heavily on a detail that wouldn’t have an effect beyond what they were getting at. Additionally, if she had kids after Jesus, it would cast doubt on the virgin birth.
Yes you’re right The context of that passage is Jesus is the one sacrifice for all. Not the only mediator, or else I hope no one ever prays for you in a time of need
@@patrickpelletier9298 What kind of rebuttal is that? Through Jesus alone can we pray to the Father. It’s very clear. Having other people praying for us is praying in Jesus’ name. Not by our own. Whereas the Catholics are praying directly to Mary, speaking to Mary in heaven or still in the tomb (Mary may not be in Heaven yet, another unbiblical catholic teaching).
@@patrickpelletier9298 What is the purpose of that question? Anyways for me prayer is worship. And by sacrifice Idk what you mean by that but from what I understand sacrificing things in your life in order to please God is worship. (Biblically speaking)
@@CynicalDude you’re correct on the Worship through sacrifice, which is how we were told to Worship God. Without sacrifice, it isn’t worship. We see this throughout the Old Testament, and since God is the same yesterday as today, that applies to now as well. Remember Moses not knowing how he would need to Worship God? Well God told him how to, just as Jesus told us how to Worship God in the New Covenant. “This is my Body, this is my Blood, do this to be made present to me”. In the same way a Jew would be made present to the Passover, we are made present to the Last Supper when we have Apostolic Succession for the sacrificial Priesthood. Prayer is veneration.
Why are most statues of Mary cast as a woman of lily white complexion? Historically she would be of mid eastern features: dark hair, dark eyes, dark skin. There shouldn’t be a statue of her anyway but if someone’s going to do it they should at least get it right.
@@patrickpelletier9298 That’s the reason God said He is a spirit. No need for images or imaging. A human’s spirit reaches out to God’s Spirit. Forget corporeal images, no need for them
Notice how telling the image was - instead of looking at the Son, the only Mediator between God and man (1 Tim 2:5), he looks directly at a statue of a Mary who appears as a queen. The attention has been successfully diverted away from the Son.

For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.” And Jesus said the day is coming (has now come) that those who worship the Father will worship Him in spirit and in truth.
