When a School Calls the Police on a Student 

I DO NOT THINK SCHOOL'S HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL POLICE ON A YOUNG STUDENT. THE SCHOOL SHOULD CALL PARENTS OR A GUARDIAN FIRST & TRY TO WORK OUT THE PROBLEM.

Note: The kid was not arrested for real, it is just a video that shows that shows us how they work. The kid just acted. Edit: Wow, I didnt know I could get that many likes for just some explanation.

The police should have told the boy his rights and not finger print or take his picture without his legal guardians present.

I got arrested out of my junior high school back in 2001, for defending a new kid while he was being jumped by multiple other students , one of the kids parents wanted charges pressed . It definitely did not go like this, happened in front of the whole school at lunch being thrown to the ground .

I mean unless he did something SUPER serious (like idk bringing a knife, gun into school or drugs) then there’s literally no reason to arrest them

by law, school have to immediate contact the parents to notify them that their son or daughter is being arrested. i didn't see any member of the school notifying.

Children below the age of 17-18 is not supposed too be arrested unless they have murdered or raped someone. But they will be put in court for the judge to tell them when they will be arrested like the age of 17 and 18 . This is not real.

If this is being used for educational use, they should of showed how they make you sit in booking for 8-12 hours before even processing your fingerprints, your mugshot, and they don’t even let you make a phone call for 5-6 hours either. But the cold sandwhich with stale bread and a cookie that sat out for 7 days definitely hits the spot every time. Lol

I strongly believe that unless a student has committed a very serious offence, then he parents just be the first port of call. There's been too many instances of schools using police as "Discipline Officers" instead of Police Officers. They've totally blurred the lines between the two roles.

I know that situation a school had my daughter arrested for eating a extra slice of pizza on the free lunch program she was 11 years old they took her from the school to the police department wow that's crazy they asked me what I would do for punishment I said I'm taking her for Pizza

It feels wrong do this to children, we are supposed to protect them not arrest them, what do you gain out of this ? Other then traumatizing a kid.

Children are still young and they still have lots of stuff to do but in jail there is no stuff to do

What pisses me off is how quick a child can get arrested , for whatever he did without his. rights being told. However, if an adult were to commit a crime, then the police in my area would have all kinds excuses as to why they can’t arrest the adult.

Mid 2000’s a local middle school made a huge error in judgement and had a couple 12yo kids arrested for literal horseplay. Those kids were scarred and traumatized far more out of proportion to the “assault” they had done. They spent a week in jail until bail was set and made. They were stripped-searched daily and any time even their attorneys visited them. The Ass. Dist. Attorney wanted to make an example out of them. Thank god when the case came to a head, the judge had sense enough to all but dismiss the case. Our assistant district attorney said if she had it to do again, she’d prosecute it the same. She’s lucky she retired and moved far away. Many in the community vowed to slap her into next week if seen in public, consequences be damned. None of this should ever happen to children.

This is very disturbing, when I was young living in beloved Levittown, Long Island, I have never seen a child get arrested by police, teachers had full control and did it in a very fair way!!

I don’t know what this kid did to get arrested, but there are kids out there who are really bad and sometimes a situation like this is necessary to teach them a lesson about their bad behavior.

Any time there is a child acting up, the teachers and parents need to be questioned to why this child is acting out.

I didn't see the parents being notified to be present and aware of the charges. I saw two of these and in both cases the school made a decision without parental involvement. In the first story an autistic child was being bullied. The bully got off scott free and the victim was arrested. I've also seen in actual schools where I have lived that their no tolerance policy punished the victim with the oppressor! I'm outraged by this. If I still had small children I would homeschool. Not all children are innocent, but not all are guilty.

I noticed in this demonstration that the child wasn't read his Miranda rights or charges by the police when he was arrested. Honestly, that's accurate because when children are arrested in school, due process is sometimes ignored, as if they don't have rights. I've heard of children being arrested for behavior that isn't even against the law, such as yelling in class or disrespecting teachers. It baffles me that schools would choose to get the police involved and traumatize a child for life, possibly ruin their future, instead of calling a guardian.

I remember when I was in the 7th grade. My teacher always called her boyfriend on me. Her boyfriend was a cop. Every time her boyfriend came to my school, he threw away my lunch and told me to cook lunch for him. Since I was only 13 years old, I could only cook pancakes and eggs. When I accidentally poked one of the egg yolks, the cop yelled, "WHAT KIND OF WOMAN ARE YOU IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO COOK?!" He then started beating me with his belt. I spent my entire recess time in the kitchen cooking for the cop. I was dizzy due to lack of food. Every time I messed up a pancake or an egg, he beat me with his belt. When I finally got it right, he ate it. When I was about to eat since I was so hungry, he slapped the food out of my hand and said, "NO FOOD FOR YOU! YOU MUST LOOK LIKE A WOMAN, NOT A HIPPO!" My teacher just laughed at how her boyfriend was treating me. Then, he made me clean the entire gym. When I passed out from lack of food, my teacher dumped dirty water all over me and yelled, "HANNAH! GET UP! STOP BEING SO LAZY! A WOMAN'S DUTY IS TO COOK AND CLEAN FOR HER MAN!" When I got up, I continued cleaning even more. When I was finished cleaning the gym, everyone came back in from recess. I saw my little brother Seth. He was crying and had bruises all over himself. Two of his teachers were forcefully dragging him in. When we went back to the classroom, my teacher and her boyfriend continued yelling at me. Another girl in my class said, "I'm a girl. Do I have to cook and clean for a man?" And my teacher said, "No. You're white, which makes you a princess. Hannah's Asian, which makes her a slave." My teacher and her boyfriend went to Seth's classroom and dragged him over to our classroom. My teacher's boyfriend held him at gunpoint and threatened to kill him if I ever ate another crumb of food. When I told him not to shoot my brother because he would die, another one of my teachers just said, "Well, you should've thought about that before you started bleeding every month! You must be a proper lady, not a useless monthly bleeder!"

Acting or no acting , the best way is to educate your kids well enough so you can keep them out of the troubles .

I can't shake off the idea that he is being arrested for actions that were caused by someone else.

In my country you can't arrest a kid without his or her parents. You have to call the parents first then the cops

A young boy arrested. This is outrageous. He is not an adult, he is a child. This is exactly why we need to end qualified immunity and make reforms in law enforcement. The kid seemed like such a respectful child. The arresting officer felt bad doing this to the poor kid. Changes need to be made. Kids should only be arrested for serious incidents not minor incidents. This isn't an adult it is a young boy. The world has changed for the worse. The young boy was a good kid he didn't deserve to be arrested.

Thats the best way to damage a kid for the rest of his life.

The policeman spoke to the child with a calm, soothing tone, which I think lessened the fear of the child.

This happened to me 40 years ago I knew it was wrong then and I really know how wrong it is now

"When a School Calls the Police on a Student", the teacher that made the call should be fined for wasting police time, and put on probation by the principal for their apparent inability to cope with their own teaching duties. If a principal did it, it should be immediate ground for dismissal.

Things like these should not happen to any kid unless they have very rampant tantrums with non-cooperative behavior. Handcuffs can be traumatizing for very young children

For the record, placing handcuffs is a form of assault and should be used when necessary. Handcuffs are not mandatory for it to be an arrest but it is used for safe practice. A kid should not have to be automatically handcuffed because they are "arrested".

Some kids are not treated that nice. Depends on who you are.

Police be like... "Kids can't be responsible for their choices because they're not able to decide or consent to anything. Their brains aren't developed enough yet." Also Police... "You should've thought about that before you did what you did. You should've acted like any 40 year old adult and since you didn't, you will be charged as an adult because it's now convenient for me to think of you as completely mentally capable and responsible for your decisions. Happy birthday, you 40 year old teen."
