About 3 years ago I had some very sad looking old violets I’d had for years that I was terrified to try to repot and restore. I found your RU-vid channel and followed all your advice! I have since grown about 2 hundred violets from the original mother plants, and have gifted dozens! I am always in the process of producing new baby plants. Your instructions are the easiest to follow of everyone’s instructions I’ve watched, and with the best results! You’re awesome!

@@BloomloversAfricanViolets maybe you could make more videos 🤔 I learn so much from you and love your calming voice. I mix my own soil with Coco coir and Perlite about 70-30 Coco coir/Perlite. Am I doing right for these beauties?

There’s always a big sigh of relief when I’ve trimmed and repotted one of my violets. Before I knew better, I started some chimera leaves for a friend, thinking I’d get more. I didn’t, but those babies were really pretty too. Love your videos. ❤️ I have a small video of my chimera and her suckers. I’ve since cut her and the babies all apart thanks to your videos. They are all doing pretty good.

The flowers can be dried or used to dye a cotton material. If you place them on the fabric then cover with foil and gently pound with a hammer & place a heavy book or rock on top, the colors will be released. I let them sit for a couple days, then remove foil/rock and let them dry completely. Then I brush off the debris and steam iron the beautiful pattern

I don't know how you can do all that work! I'm amazed!
@BloomloversAfricanViolets
@BloomloversAfricanViolets 5 лет назад
the trick is to not look at the whole thing at once, that becomes too overwhelming and I would have panic attacks (lol). I only look at little sections at a time, I break down all the work into little pieces and do that little piece, then another little piece and it all gets done. It's all a mind thing.

Monochrome means one colour. This is not monochrome. Chimera means from two animals/species, so that’s why it’s striped.

I have what might be a silly question, can you grow baby plants from suckered leafs?
@Gladys7477
@Gladys7477 5 лет назад
Good morning, Tina. In some videos, I've seen where they chop off all the roots and then plant. Is this just taxing the plant more? Or encouraging them to make the new roots faster? I think I'd feel safer following your method. Newbie here, LOL
@BloomloversAfricanViolets
@BloomloversAfricanViolets 5 лет назад
Hello Gladys, in some cases we have to chop off a portion of the roots to make the rootball smaller so it will fit in the new pot and that is ok to do. This was not the case for this one as the rootball was already very small and could fit in the new pot. I couldn't find a plant that was overgrown to show this but when I find one that needs repotting, I will do another video and will show how to chop off a portion of the rootbal. This technique you are referring to is sometimes necessary and does not harm the plant. Hope this helps. Tina xx

@BloomloversAfricanViolets
@BloomloversAfricanViolets 4 года назад
Hello Fantastica, you can indeed repot a plant at anytime, just make sure that if it is winter and you grow near the windows that the cold doesn't get to the freshly repotted plants as they will be a little more fragile right after repotting until they get resettled into the new soil.

Hi very interested video, i have one of those but after tow blooms in the first year it re-bloom all purple. What do you think is the cause of that?
@BloomloversAfricanViolets
@BloomloversAfricanViolets 5 лет назад
Hello Venice, this happens sometimes, it is called sporting. Full grown plants don't have the tendancy to do this but occasionally they do, there is nothing you can do about it. The plant could revert back to the striped blooms or not, it is a sort of mutation (the trait of the stripe was not locked in correctly in the dna of the plant) I have had some chimeras go completely solid, then back to chimera, sometimes half chimera, and half solid blooms, sometimes they never come back, it is all in mother nature's hands, nothing we can do about it. What you could do is force it to make new babies (please see the video on how to multiply chimeras ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7BdXlCh_q9w.html ) If there are any chimera reproduction cells left on the plant, you may get some chimeral babies out of it. This will be a long process as you will have to wait for the babies to grow and then pot them up to get them into bloom and only then you will see if any have the chimera stripe. You have to see it as a long term science project ... Hope this helps. xx

Since the roots grow closest to where the leaves are, could you have also cut off the old stem and leave only an inch to allow for new growth?
@joeyraul2340
@joeyraul2340 Год назад
No because then it needs more moisture or tu be placed in a bag .so keeping the roots as she did is the best option

Question: After repotting, what is the suggestion for watering? Do you wait a few days to water? Thanks!
@BloomloversAfricanViolets
@BloomloversAfricanViolets 5 лет назад
Hello Kyra, the soil has to be damp to start with for sure otherwise, they will dry up. In all cases, putting down leaves, planting new babies, repotting and general growing, they should all be watered and left to dry up (not completely but just barely moist) before rewatering. Hope this helps. Tina xx

@@BloomloversAfricanViolets Thank you so much! I am planning to repot a few of mine this weekend. Some have the long-neck issue and I think their roots are no longer feeding the plant because I am seeing a lot of sad, wilty leaves. I always get super-nervous repotting because I hate to lose one!
@BloomloversAfricanViolets
@BloomloversAfricanViolets 5 лет назад
Hi @@kyrad6543, before repotting make sure they are watered up and not all limpy which will help and after repotting, just keep the soil "moist" and not wet. This is where people lose them, they repot the plants and then really wet the soil, the too wet soil promotes rot... Just moist or damp, not wet. Hope all goes well. Tina xx
