When And Where To Use A Crop While Riding A Horse | The Horse Guru - Michael Gascon 

Hello new subscriber, I have a question. I am a semi new rider, I have a new horse, a 15 year old Tennessee walker gelding. He is a good calm horse always behaves. No spooking no bad habits except 1. I will saddle him up on my property & ride him as far as I want. It could be a mile or a hundred yards, he does everything I ask. The problem comes when I try to turn him around to go home, he will spin in circles forever. He drops his head bends his neck back at a stop. He will even back up rather than go forward. I resorted to climbing down & walking him home a mile. This happened 2 times. The 3 rd time I only went 100 yards & tried to turn him he did the same thing. Now I taught him that if he does not want to do something he knows I will climb down. Someone told me he is unfamiliar with his new environment, also to try spurs & a riding crop. This is a smart horse, too smart. I don't want to do something that works against me, like I did by climbing down to walk him. Any suggestions?

Got ten yr old 14 hh hackney mix I need to get to walk and jog for fair and have 4 weeks to get him greenbroke. He stomps his feet and tosses his head , dull to leg and reins won't Bend his nose to me, so how do I get him to turn and give his nose. I can make him move a little if I click and kick hard but I don't want to have to kick the shit out of him and make him mad.
