Funny thing is since I started this boot camp, I posted on Facebook that I'm learning coding and I got a good paying job offer once I can prove my skill. Scary and exciting at the same time
This video boosted my confidence. Thank you so much Vincent. I am grateful that you're the one who introduced software engineering to me. Looking forward to the next lessons
I'm a self-taught web developer and have been working for the same company that brought me into the industry for the past 10 years. I've been afraid to even attempt finding another position because I felt like I am only good enough to work for this one company. I recently started applying for jobs and have gotten a few interviews so far. The one thing that really bothers me about the interview process is the coding interview and how much emphasis seems to be put on it. I understand that the company hiring for the role needs to know that you can perform the job but all these leet code problems are so far away from anything I have done day-to-day as a developer for the past 10 years. It feels similar to SAT prep; if you have the time and money to pour into tutoring and practicing you be rewarded with a better score than most but it didn't really prove anything about your abilities. It just proved that you had the time and the capacity to memorize a bunch of patterns and regurgitate them. I feel like it devalues my actual work experience and puts someone like me at a disadvantage since I don't have 4 hours a day to commit to grinding leet code due to working a full-time job and being a parent. The industry needs to find a better solution for this.
There are a lot of companies out there that don't focus on leetcode specific type interviews. Check this repository out :) github.com/poteto/hiring-without-whiteboards
