clyde was second in mvp voting in 92, lead the blazers to the finals for the second time in 3 years and was a member of the dream team. it's funny how many people get overlooked because of jordan but it's understandable when you dominate an entire decade. this is why i love this channel, actually appreciates the greats from today and the past.

I can't see any higher ranked SG in history (Kobe, Wade, West) performing any better vs the calibre of competition Clyde faced on the 92 Finals in his shoes. He didn't shoot the greatest (only 40% FG), but to average 25/8/8 vs that level of competition....especially given he was carrying an injury that needed surgery but played through means he should be given more credit than just simply a guy that Jordan crushed.

People don't really get how good Drexler was. He was arguably the 2nd best SG from maybe '87 to 93.' He led Portland to two NBA Finals ('90 and '92) and finally won a championship with Houston in '95. He led Portland to the best regular season record in '91 with 63 wins and consistently put up high stats in steals, rebounds, assists, and points at SG. I consider him a top 10 player of the 1990s and a top 10 shooting guard all-time.

Give Clyde Pippen, Shaq, Lebron, & Bosh; Clyde *AIN'T LOSING!!!* I personally don't think Kobe or D Wade is leading either Blazers team to the finals. Jordan is the only one apart from Clyde who could do it. My top 5 SGs are: #1-Jordan, #2-Clyde, #3-*PEAK* T-Mac, #4-Kobe, #5-D Wade.

@justsayin669 3 года назад
@@benyah3390 Give Drexler the version of Shaq that Wade had in the 2006 Finals and I'm not so sure Drexler wins the 2006 title. Maybe if Shaq stepped up and had a better series because I don't see Drexler having the series that Wade had. I'm not sure if Drexler would have won 2 rings with the 2009 or 2010 Lakers either. Maybe 1 ring and I am basing these statements on each of their abilities as you were referring to. Drexler had 2 great playoff runs to make the Finals and MAYBE Wade and Kobe would not have made the Finals in Drexler's situation 1 or both of those years, but if Drexler were able to run it back in the same situation in terms of his teammates and his opponents, then there is a good chance he wouldn't have made at least 1 of those again either, happenstance is a thing, but Drexler did a great job to actually get his team to the Finals in those seasons. We have to give players the props for what they DID accomplish though. I understand your hypotheticals based on each player's ability, but I disagree with you about how things would unfold if you swapped their situations. I agree Drexler is closer to Wade and Kobe than most people acknolwedge though. T-Mac??? The guy that never made it out of the first round in the playoffs despite having 4 chances when he was definitely still in his prime, 2 more chances when he was near his prime if not still in it and 1 chance before he entered his prime? He did not have good teams until he went to Houston and I understand the west was tough, but still, he NEVER made it out of the 1st round of the playoffs in 7 tries. He had Yao who was a top 2 center in the league at the time including arguably the best center in 2006-07 when they lost in the 1st round again. T-Mac and Yao played together in the playoffs twice and lost in the first round both times. In 2008 when T-Mac played the 54 win Jazz without Yao, the Rockets lost in 6 games. In the 2009 playoffs when Yao was without T-Mac, the Rockets defeated the 54 win Blazers in 6 games to make it out of the 1st round without T-Mac. I understand team success isn't even close to everything when judging an individual player and his impact on the court, but if T-Mac had top 3 all-time SG ability, then he would have won at least ONE of those series'. T-Mac isn't even top 5 let alone top 3... 1.) Jordan 2.) Wade (maybe Kobe if we go by full career, but Wade was better in his prime imo and Wade's prime lasted 8yrs imo) 3.) Kobe (career maybe 2nd, but prime Wade was a bit better) 4.) Drexler 5.) Harden If T-Mac had even a half-way decent playoff resume compared to other greats and HOFers even in his shorter time in the NBA, then maybe he would have an argument for top 5, but you can't be top 5 all-time at your position if you never made it out of the 1st round let alone top 3 at your position... All of the players in my top 5 SG list would have won AT LEAST 1 playoff series if they were in T-Mac's situations. T-Mac being a top 3 all-time SG is laughable. Not to mention he was the least efficient scorer of the players in question and tied with Drexler for 4th best defensive SG *at best* out of Jordan, Wade, Kobe, Drexler and T-Mac. The only way T-Mac could make that up would be if he had substantial enough passing and rebounding advantages over Wade and Kobe which he doesn't. T-Mac may have been a slightly better passer than Kobe and he was a better rebounder than Kobe, but not enough to be considered a better player when you take Kobe's scoring and defensive advantages into account in my book. T-Mac had a clear rebounding advantage over Wade, but T-Mac was an even passer with Wade at best while Wade was clearly the better scorer and defender.
@justsayin669
@justsayin669 3 года назад
@@TheIcemanthomas I understand what he's saying and I somewhat agree with judging players in that way because you have to account for players having more or less team support and longevity can be weighed differently depending on who you are talking to, it's not all about team success, but T-Mac simply did not prove enough to be considered a top 5SG. DEFINITELY not top 3... If he was, he would have won at least ONE playoff series which he never did. But for example, Hakeem "only" has 2 rings, yet I have him in my top 5 all-time players list. It's not all about team success. There are MANY other factors that should be accounted for.

@@TheBmills415 I can respect that. You could say the same for Olajuwon, and with the exception of Wilt; only because I never saw much of him, I don't feel like Kareem or anyone else was better. My thing is, they carried their respective teams for so long without much help that they would break down quicker. Now let's say Houston doesn't make the biggest mistake in the '83 draft and picks Clyde at #3 instead of Rodney *freaking* McCray; We're talking about Clyde & Dream having 5-7 chips with Scottie and MJ on the losing end of their 1st 3peat. My point is, Kobe & Cap had tons of help throughout their careers, while Dream and Clyde shouldered their teams by themselves most of their careers. We're not talking about Kobe, MJ, or Kareem in the same light without the help of Shaq, to a lesser extent Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Artest(Kobe); Scottie, Rodman, and Grant to a lesser extent(MJ); and Oscar, Magic, Worthy, and Russell to a lesser extent(Kareem). The best Clyde & had before Dream was Porter, which is a "lesser extent" player; and Dream had Sam Cassell and Otis Thorpe which were "lesser extent" players. After Dream & Clyde's 1(half) season together after 10 prime years of carrying their teams by themselves, they win, but are riddled with injuries.

Buck Williams was an all star with the nets. He never performed at that level with the blazers. Ainge was way past his prime. Robinson wasn’t an all star until after their finals runs and Porter, Kersey and Duckworth all under performed in the finals. Drexler gets trashed that he was “shut down” by Jordan. He had a torn knee and was getting no help. Porter and Kersey each cracked 20 twice in the finals. Drexler was basically 25,8 and 5. He was guarded by arguably the 2 best wing defenders ever and his fg% dropped by about 5% meaning he averaged around what Kobe shot for his entire career.

@@naquoashuey2794 This... Also, that injury you refer to required surgery, which he had after the Olympics. And being that he was getting older as he recovered from the injury, he was then past his prime, and never quite the same after that, though still great, and had some truly great moments, winning a title with Houston, teaming up with Olajuwan and a solid group. Prime Clyde (the peak of his mental and physical abilities) was only about 2-3 years from about 1989-1992 pre knee injury, so before the playoffs, and the finals of '92. Looking at the numbers during that span, he was very competitive with MJ, even out performing him some nights, and the Blazers won some games against the Bulls. Was Jordan better? Looking at their overall careers, I'd say yes, no question, but not by nearly as much as most think, and personally, I'd take prime Drexler over Jordan, as I think he was a better team player. This is why Jordan needed Pippen, to help his unique 1 vs 1 abilities (both offensively and defensively) blend in with the team to create the ultimate (for that era) machine that the Bulls became. While it's true that Jordan won nothing without Pippen, it is also true that Pippen did not win without Jordan either, they needed each other, and were at their best being able to complement and feed off each other.

Played in 5 conference finals in 8 years and carried 2 teams to the finals and winning in his 3rd finals with averages of 22ppg, 9.5 rebs and 6-7 assist. I watched both of them many times. Drexler said that MJ gets more points because he shoots more. Well, the reason he was shooting more is because he kept making those shots. Drexler indeed was able to go toe to toe with MJ for three quarters. But then he'd start to miss but MJ kept going. That was the difference between the absolute highest tier of players like Bird and Jordan against the next tier like Drexler - the 4th quarter/overtime. I hated Chicago and was very upset when they beat Phoenix and Portland in the finals but I have to be honest and just tell what I saw
