A Documentary 'When Corden Met Barlow' aired on BBC One on May 5. The pair head off on a road trip and aim to discover the secrets of Gary's 25-year career. Features interviews with Elton John, Robbie Williams and more.
As a Canadian, I had no idea who Gary Barlow was. But since COViD and my discovery of all things RU-vid and BGT, I became fascinated with this handsome, talented and kind judge. I am now a huge fan. What a first-rate guy!
I dont know how anyone can not know who Gary Barlow is. He was the lead singer of chart topping UK band Take Take for six years. And a successful solo singer for a couple of years after they broke up. He then reformed Take That in 2006 and they went on to have several more big hits and sell out concert tours! He also co wrote the massive 2012 hit Candy with Robbie Williams.
I agree. In the early days of Take That, Gary got away with nasties toward Robbie that were not revealed until later on. Rob has been painted the villain in this narrative, but the adage is: There ARE 2 sides. Gary has admitted this himself. There has always been an abiding love btw them. Gary never wanted Robbie to leave, and was ever happier when they reconciled. Gary stated that he underestimated him (Rob), and he was more like him than any other band member. 💪💖
They may have their diffeeences but fans were wrong for putting all the blame all to GB. What happened was that fans has to hunger and missed the beautiful songs they could have had enjoyed had he not been prosecuted unjustly. It only proved that fans still loves and adores him after all has been forgotten. Robbie Williams may have been so famous but Gary is phenomenal and a legend... A notch higher than superstardom, I should say...
@@startracker5895 You can never tell. To every story there are always two sides. Dont put the blame onto one person alone as it may what you only perceived to be but it doesnt mean it is accurate.
Gary Barlow, in my opinion, is one of the great songwriters of our time. He is a gentleman, his songs are timeless and when the smoke settles his words will outlive us all.
My son is 8 years old and his favourit song from Gary Barlow is Let MeGo. He is autistic and he doesn't speak but when he hear this song he run at me, jumps in my arms and make a big smile. Thank you Gary for that
It's the love of God in human spirit that identified with the spirit of others who truly have a good and generous heart. God allow Gary to remain strong under so much pressure to make him great in the end. Love Gary more after hearing his story he is a unique and special human being. He made it through all that hate and attack when others might not have. God bless his wife for being there with him through all that she's must have a beautiful soul
I love it when James tells Gary he doesn`t have to talk about anything he`s not comfortable with because that level of apreciation for privacy in interviewers seems to have been lost. Great men, both of them.
James thank you for being a true friend. We are all human and we are all brothers and sisters. Gary your songs move a lot of people for the good. I want to say thank you very much. From the Keller’s in Houston, TX.
gary barlow showing up at that wedding makes him the nicest man in the world. and the way that he included the groom as well. i'm proud of him for making this possible
@@surbiatahmed4806 This video was posted back in 2014. There is absolutely no need to feel sorry for Gsry, now...Did you miss the part where he made it back massive and is now so in demand??
I'm new to Gary Barlow in just this last 2 yrs, after finding him by mistake on RU-vid. This documentary shows just how humble, talented, charming, down to earth and let's not forget dashingly handsome Gary truly is! I'm still discovering his music, but I am a lifelong fan! And, I cannot forget to mention the extremely talented and entertaining comedian James Corden! I'm an adoring fan of them both!
Gary is very humble kind loving and caring how he eventually found the strength to bounce back from being put down by the press and record labels i not a fan off take that or gary barlow but he is amazing singer song writer i as a man am not ashamed to admit i love million love songs and back for good i have respect for gary as a singer songwriter musician and the charity work he does life too short to hold grudges and am glad gary and robbie and the lads in take that are now friends may be take that should call there next tour THE TAKE THAT AT 50 PLUS VAT TOUR MAYBE SING SOME OFF THERE SOLO CAREER SONGS AS WELL AM SURE THE LADY'S WHO ARE FANS OFF ROBBIE AND GAZ WILL LOVE THAT OR GAZ AND ROBBIE DO A DUO TOUR THAT I WOULD GO AND WATCH
I turn 60 years old tomorrow, and I assume that puts me in the "Never a Fan" category of Take That, but it didn't make me so old or outdated to appreciate how great a songwriter Gary Barlow is. I randomly came across this video, but in saying that I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, and possibly like many others, I have to say what a really decent and down to Earth guy he is.
One is never too old to be a fan❤️If you hear some bit of music from any decade, and you feel the music in your heart and soul, that’s all that matters. And that’s what makes you a fan. Btw I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, but as my peers were listening to Nirvana, Oasis and Pearl Jam, I was mostly listening to Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. Before my time but it’s the music that spoke to my soul. Cheers 👍
jonkheere1 hi I think your right he’s a lovely man ,he really went through the mill ,didn’t he .im 65 an love him .i think Robbie was horrible to him ,it’s put me of him ,in saying that I wasn’t keen on him in the first place .Ann
I'm 65 and listen to all types of music along with Gary and Take That. It doesn't matter your age when it comes to music, if it reaches your soul and you love what your hearing, that's all anyone could hope for!
Simply put... Seing this, I respect the guy. The wedding thing shows his character. Humble, talented and good looking singer. Never really followed his career up until now, but I am now a true fan. RESPECT
I am a huge fan I can't stop listening of I want you back although it's been so long ago but it seems like yesterday I just love, luv,luv this song I plan to keep it alive!!!
I went at this all backwards. Saw g. Barlow on xxxfactor on you tube and was trying to figure out how he was qualified to be a judge. First I discovered "want u back" which I always loved was his song, then found "take that" and was amazed however big they were. I loved this show and how open and honest both men were with each other. How refreshing. I am a true g.b. fan and I love his voice and his music. I hope he makes music for a very long time.
Great Life Story! "For the first time in year. I got on the train that morning, I sat on my seat. I just took my glasses off. I took my hat off. I just thought: I AM HAPPY TO BE ME TODAY". (and I weep..) We love you Gary, always!
Listening and watching this documentary has made me realize the suffering he went through. People can be mean towards each other and most times that can take a toll on the person. I am just glad he has his wife and children to give him strength and the will to weather thrrough his trials, He is a beautiful man full of talent, humility and goodness.
What a fantastic interview! As a lifelong fan of Gary's seeing James corden who we also know is a fellow lifelong fan ask those questions just made it even more special!
I didn't even really know who Gary Barlow was before I watched this. What a journey and what a lovely man. Very inspirational. Hoping that he continues to be surrounded by those that cherish and love him.
Yeah, before I watched this I didn't know who Gary Barlow was, I'd only seen him on clips from the x factor. So glad I watched this, otherwise I probably still won't know who Gary is.
So much pain but so much strength. Gary and James are the essence of British talent and true British Gentlemen. Long may they both entertain us in their own special ways.
Moo here....I was on train few years ago with load of TT fans dressed in pink believe me no Spring chickens. It don't matter your age you like music with a tune don't matter.your age if people ask give them birthday but the year is between you and yellow birth certificate
I`ve just watched this documentary on August 8th 2022. This means the documentary was made over 8 years ago. I was taken seriously ill in March 2020 when I was then 59 years old. My memory has been affected, and I now struggle with some tasks, but watching this documentary brought back many memories of just how great Gary Barlow`s music is. I was never a fan of Take that, or any group really. but I grew up listening to radio 2 so the likes of Gary Barlow and groups like Take that were very often heard. I thought the story of Gary`s life from leaving school to joining Take that, and the journey beyond is fascinating. Gary Barlow is without doubt a very special person. To have coped with the fame at first, then to have been able to deal with the disappointment when things fell apart is amazing. I`m sure Gary will remain a very special person for the rest of his days.
Very true!!! I like him ,my wife is more Duran Duran and Simon Le Bon person but she likes Gary Barlow because he is so talented and he has a good voice!!
I’ve been a Gary fan since I can remember, from the first Time I heard a take that song to just now singing his songs in the car. Anyone that has half a brain cell credits this man for everything he is, its not a matter of opinion anymore its the truth. Gary Barlow is with out a doubt the greatest songwriter, artist and man I have ever came across and nothing can change the love that his family, friends and mountains of fans have for him.
I agree! He suffered and swallowed all the blame and the fans of the "other guy" were so mean to him and rediculed him because he was the only person they thought was at fault. Well, the vindication and success he had speaks volume of who he truly was as a person and who he is today. It is even written in some of his songs. He expressed it in his songs... YOU or anyone can not really put a good man and pure talent down. Gary is phenomenal, a rannaisance man and a true artist.
I feel the same way. He’s a much bigger/more forgiving person than I could have been. It’s hard for me to be very fond of Robbie after how he acted & what he said about Gary.
I admire how he hasn't spoken about Robbie 's behaviour towards him in the same harmful way. He also spared the media from reacting in the same hateful way that they treated him. Wonderful documentary.
True character speaks by itself. I dont think he changed for the better because of what he had been through. He already is a person of genuine character when he was alone. He was a devoted husband and a loving father to his kids. Maybe fans of Robbie now knew they were wrong to judge him... They have immensely contributed to Garys' demise in music industry but you can never put a good or even better and more talented man down. And who lived a more meaningful and happier life between the two? Who excelled and who made a phenomenal success? Who they think is a better person now? Robbie's life will never be as amazing as Garys'. He will always be second to Gary in everything to my opinion! And he does not deserve to be called a member of TT because he was so selfish and arrogant when he was famous as a solo artist! RW's time of success was a borrowed time and now Gary is just taking back what was borrowed from him...
@@freddiebade2554 Borrowed time??? Robbie didn't borrow absolutely anything from Gary. Robbie's world wide success was well deserved, He was the only one from TT who was capable to became massive solo superstar!
Brilliant!! Love the documentary! Two very warm men meeting for this. A man who went through all that and still has that warmth and happiness in him. A great lesson
Hard history..😔😔..but Gary Barlow is a big singer and star person of the world ..God is good all the time.. I Love Gary and your beautifull family..👏👏👏👏👏💖🌹
Wow what a humble down to earth person Gary Barlow really is. Despite all the negativity and hurtful things said in the passed he is able to move on what a true warrior!
I love such meaningful conversations with real depth, honesty and vulnerability! Gary is a very talented, humble gentleman with huge mental strength. Once I read this sentence somewhere: "Mental toughness is when you can still find fuel in an empty tank." That's what he did. Huge respect! ❤
Cried through most off this the poor guy 😭😭 I've always had respect for Gary as a artist. I was a huge Take That fan going to their concerts, Robbie was always my favourite and I've always stuck with Robbie through his career. He's an amazing artist. But I've always had alot more respect for Gary as a musician. Gary has one off the best voices I've ever heard and his song writing is just brilliant. I mean come on a million love songs says it all. It's just s**t he had to go through all that much respect to him for rising above it all 👏❤️
A big up to James for allowing Gary to relive what must have been the darkest times in his life with humour and understanding. Gary thank you for your candour and honesty. Modern fairy tales can have a happy ending. Talent shines brightly but briefly, without something to back it up? Gary may the next 25 years bring you all the joy and happiness you deserve. Respect.
I will always love gary barlow! Take that will always be part of my childhood and teen memories! I loved his first album and his song Open Road. I even used that title in one of my essays. #livinglegend
Wow! I had no idea. I'm American & while I know Robbie Williams as a solo artist, I had never heard of Take That. I only recognized Gary as the judge from X factor. I'm so glad I took the time to watch this. What an inspiring story about such an amazing man. ❤
@@nunogouveia6458 I think it peaked at #6. It really was the only song of his Americans like.. And it is a GREAT classic song. His other stuff must be a British thing. He's never or take that are not something 🇺🇸 get into..
@@asphaltcowboy7567 the rest was not that British, it was pop. Both Take That and Gary Barlow were very successful all over Europe. I remember that Gary Barlow first solo album was #01 in Portugal and was certified double platinum.
Same here, only this year Feb.2023 when i discovered his song entitled "Back For Good"now really m a big real fan of him,so handsome, good, kindhearted person,Gary Barlow-i really idolizing you, Sir...great singer,i love you music....hope to see you in concert here in the Philippines
OMG my heart aches from watching this video. James Corden is such a lovely guy, the connection he has with Gary is simply amazing. But I am having a hard recovering from knowing how Gary had been mistreated. He seems to be such a nice guy, so good looking and extremely talented, yet, people are so fucking cruel. I am glad he was able to overcome all that and that he is in a good place. There is room for everyone, for all sorts of talent and he without a doubt has a huge talent. I am happy all Take That members are good and no longer throwing stones at each other…. thank God for that! Love them all. ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
We ALWAYS wanted you and the boys back Gaz! Ever since you all split - that was a horrible day for a 16 year old teen girl. You all coming back together was massive!
2018. Still watching this. Because of this, Gary Barlow became my hero. Amazing person, he is. It’s not easy to stand up again after what happen...what he have been through all his journey. His fall down really teach him the lesson of life, and he managed to deal with it, and became Gary Barlow that we know today. I remember the story when he was on his tough years back then, he can’t even saw and read his own name, even asking the bank to change his name on the card. I assumed he must be giving up all the things at that time...but yes, just like he said, he is always the responsible one, that was one of the thing that makes he rise up again I think. I cried watching this, thinking of how strong Gary Barlow is, even asking myself..if I were him, can I pull myself to my strongest part and start all over again? Maybe yes, maybe not.
I totally love James Corden. This interview was brilliant. It was so natural, so fun, so informative, no boring moments, all of it relevant. So happy to have found this and thank you to Linda Nielsen for publishing it. I've watched it numerous times already and I only discovered it a few weeks ago. If anyone ever deserved the good things that's happened to him, it's Gary. Can't believe people treated him so rotten. Humans can be so cruel.
Gary`s children can really be proud of their dad. I don`t know how proud I would be of a father like Robi Williams. I think this documentary is the best way to make some people really feel ashamed of themselves. There is no excuse for bullying and hurting others - REALLY NONE!. After causing so much pain, you come along and say that you`re sorry? Well, what goes around, comes around. But most importantly, I really hope that this will teach at least some people what harm you can do to others when you`re driven by your EGO.
I do admit, Gary was not my favorite, but this fantastic documentary changed my mind as I grow older, and yes I cried with pure joy at the wedding scene, great job James on the interview and a big congratulations to Gary for being so open and pure.
Thanks for uploading. I never knew about most of it. Its just horrible how cruel people can be. :( No wonder so many famous people turn to drugs and commit suicide. Gladly Gary roze above it. :) That is really impressive and inspiring.
Feels more like "James and Gaz hanging out for the day" rather than award-winning comedian and host James Corden and award-winning singer-songwriter-member of top selling boy band Gary Barlow filming a documentary. Both of them are really great at what they do and have brought so much joy to millions of viewers and listeners
Thanks for uploading. I can't say I am exactly a Take that fan but one can not deny that through his songs Gary Barlow has given joy to millions. So refreshing to see somebody of his talents (and money) devoted to his wife and children - total respect for him now!
Out of curiosity I looked up why Gary was on X-Factor and what made him special. I discovered Take That and all their discography. I’m HOOKED on everything Take That. I’m blown away learning that Robbie was from Take That! Then I watched Eight Letters and it legit made me cry.
+lostinsiberia Actually I think I read somewhere that the concept for this one came from an earlier thing James did with George Micheal, but I haven't seen it personally so I might be mistaken.
James, you are a lucky man. Gary Barlow is a great man for all he have done. Every time I see this documentary, I cry because there is much pain than he want's to tell. I saw Take That in London last 12 of june at the O2 Arena. It was amazing. Thank you Gary to give us dream, and good time.
I love Gary .... so talented, a gentle soul, a loving spirit, humble but determined and resilient, rising to the top through adversity. Great job James 👏🏾👏🏾Shine on dear Gary ❤❤❤
Brilliant!! Love the documentary! Two very warm men meeting for this. A man who went through all that and still has that warmth and happiness in him. A great lesson
How mean can people be?I wonder where those people are today who made fun of him?He was always my favorite TT member. He grew more as a singer & song writer since then.Love you Gary!U r a true inspiration ❤️
True! Some fans of RW were so mean and the media ignited it even more... I was even resentful of RW's success before but because GB was vindicated and had become a success, I rest my case. They can now say GB is the better performer, a true artist, a phenomenal one and a notch higher than a superstar RW was. Songs of GB is still played in FM radio even until today...
when i watch gary ,and the camera does alot of close up to his face, i cannot help but noticing a certain sadness in his eyes......i guess that bad period must have been extremely tough on him and probably the feeling wont ever go away...he is an amazing songwriter, probably one of the top 5 songwriters of the late generations
Gary Barlow. What an amazing person. Everyday and real. The talent and gift that he is deserves his fame and beyond and the fact he is who he is with little care for fame says it all. A talented musician and songwriter . A Legend of our time x
A very very good documentary. The second album i bought in my life is his first album open road and I was just a junior high school student at that time. I usually didn't have extra money to buy something i want, but i really love "love won't wait" and his beautiful voice so i decided to buy his album. I can still remember they went to my country to advocate new album beautiful world, and that day was also the birthday of mark. Really glad to see him finally come back to the music industry, and keep writing amazing songs. In london olympic closing ceremony, the performance of take that is always my favorite one.
I absolutely loved this, thank you Linda Nielsen for uploading it. How wonderful to see a truly sweet and talented young man make it not once, but twice. Truly inspiring behaviour Gary you deserve nothing but the best.
WOW. I’ve loved Gary and Take That for about ten years now. I never heard of them or their music before I watched Stardust and heard Rule the World. Then Gary did a duet with ABBA’s Agnetha Faltskog. I’ve been a fan of ABBA since SOS in 1975. Since 2013 I’ve learned a lot about TT and their music, but I never knew what was in this BBC special. IT was a relevation. What a survival and success story and redemption. The new album is amazing. WINDOWS, Where We Are, One More Word, and the March of the Hopeful are brilliant. Your music moves this 59 year old man from Detroit. Now your story does as well. Cheers Gary!
God bless you more. He loves men who went through emptying himself in the darkest night, he wakes up a better man -- grateful and humble. Greatness are made of these. You are my one of my torch lights amid this pandemic.
What a grand interview! GaryB is a very strong person to have bounced back from all the negative stuff. Love it when someone like him overcomes enormous obstacles without blaming others. It happens - it happened and now all is good!
