The reason that he turned to the dark side was because he felt enslaved by the Jedi's ridiculous laws and traditions. Unfortunately, the Sith have their own ridiculous laws and traditions. Comes with the territory (of religion), I guess.

What would he have to gain from killing Jabba besides creating turmoil in Huttspace, eliminating a (relatively) loyal ally and demonstrating to Sidious that he can’t maintain even the most basic stability in the empire’s relations?

Its funny to me how confident Jabba was here. Vader could literally kill him with a thought, bring his whole crime ring crumbling down around him, and end the hutt families forever single handedly if he wanted. I guess he's just lucky Vader needed his bounty hunters.

kjf 365 Jabba was actually pretty smart. He knew the Emperor didn’t want to kill the Hutts. So he knew Vader would have to tolerate him or face the wrath of his master (aka torture, probably in the form of a little force lightning.)

Darth Vader was Palpatine's slave. He owned nothing except what Palpatine gave him, and had very little time to do anything except follow his master's bidding.

@@galagize9233 It's a complex mix of "Well, all of this is over, what do I do now?", and him knowing he's still nowhere near Palpatine's level. He played the waiting game so that he could learn more about the dark side from Palpatine, increase his strength and knowledge so he could one day overthrow him

I like how at 4:20 it shows the Tatooine suns reflecting off of Vader’s eyes. It does a great job of showing how similar he once was to Luke. They both had dreams to explore the galaxy and have many adventures.

Vader wasn't flustered. It's that going back to Tatooine, at least in his earlier years as Darth Vader, greatly risked reawakening Anakin inside him. By the time of post-Yavin, Vader has put some of his past behind him, to the point that he has no problem going back there, especially when he wanted to find out more about his son. He also cares very little about the woes of others at this point, even slaves'.

Because as they said in episode 1, the outer rim is beyond the jurisdiction of the republic. They would have been stepping on the toes of the crime syndicates who controlled the planet. And those same criminals were the ones paying off various bureaucrats in power in the republic. Which was one of the central reasons why Palaptine was able to manipulate the senate to give him emergency powers.

4:20 Right here I think the two suns/moons (I can't remember which is which) can represent two sides inside of Vader, like eys on his mask, the red one represents Vader, looking down at the banthas dying, without remorse, the other one, Anakin, looking over at Jabba, processing what he is saying, and remembering his time as a slave.
