I know this race is like, 14 years old, but that still got my heart racing. Seeing this again after all this time never fails to make me happy. Smoke really out there just wanting his rookie to win lmao
Darian did a Busts video on Riggs. Evernham had his head in the clouds because of his affair with Erin Crocker and as a result the performance of both Scott and Jeremy declined as a result while the resources were shifted to Kasey.
@@joshjarnagin3161 Actually, the 2005 points went to Sterling Marlin's #14 team with MB2 Motorsports, as that was the team Riggs drove for previously. The #10 car in 2006 was previously the part-time #91 Evernham car, which was driven by a "semi-retired" Bill Elliott. So while Riggs kept the number and sponsor with him, he did not retain the owner points.
@@hacksawjimthuggin7411 plus three shootout wins, and a couple of duels. But the original comment is probably using "the eye test". He's always in the front, aggressive yet rarely causes problems, plus he will always be linked to figuring out the tandem
You're right. Just like Mark Martin, he's won everything but the Championship. Well, Mark never won the Daytona 500 but I don't think that's nearly as big of a deal as it used to be.
He might win on the short tracks, but he will struggle early on for intermediate tracks because he'll have to adjust his driving style to suit the racing package
Now he's one of NASCAR's most universally hated drivers along with Logano, Kyle Busch and a few others. I hope Overhated Hamlin wins the title this year so that'll trigger everyone especially the Elliott fanbase
The tables turned last year for Hamlin. He had his greatest season in his entire career, right after all his haters claimed he was done, becauss of the one season he went winless. Plus he pretty much made 2010 irrelevant when he scored a career defining win at Phoenix. Seemed to be the feel good moment of the year
I’ll never forget. I’ve been a JGR fan since back in the 90s. They had been in decline and I remember telling all my friends “this Hamlin kid is going to be awesome. Conservative aggression and takes care of equipment.” They laughed but they told me “you were right” that morning after the race.
My favorite driver of all time i hope he comes back in win the 2020 championship i can't wait till i get older and race alongside my idol love you Denny Hamlin a future hall of famer
I was 6 and I remember this very well. Hamlin swept the pocono races in 06 too, finished 3rd In points, won ROTY by a longshot. The other rookies in 06 all were huge flops. He Had one of the best rookie seasons ever, maybe second to Tony Stewart.
Bowyer and MTJ were both in the 2006 rookie class. Newman and Johnson also had great rookie seasons and Johnson was in fact leading the points going into Dega 2. I would probably agree with your top 2 at least as far as I can remember. Hard to believe Montoya was the last rookie to win a non shortened non plate race.
Whoops I forgot about bowyer and truex. I was mainly thinking of Yeley and Sorensen lol. Yea Jimmie and Newman had great rookie season too, Jimmie mighta won it all had he not had that pace lap incident at Dega with Mark Martin. Hopefully that last fact about Montoya will change this year with Custer or Bell
Jimmie wasn’t winning it all, his engine blew in that race so he DNFs anyway. Also he ended up more than a full race behind Tony for the championship so even if he wins Dega he still wouldn’t win the championship. I think there’s a decent chance the stat changes this that is like to see a rookie win on outright speed. Not fuel mileage or rain shortened or plate race. Yeley...oh god I never understood why he deserved to get the 18.
Fair enough, that was before I started watching. That was the hendrick engine catastrophe race too. I just remember seeing on an old nbc prerace show maybe after he swept Dover that they thought he might win it all. Yeah Leavine Family Racing has made some huge strides recently, hopefully Bell can pull through and get them a W. And Yeley I dont think ever won a Busch race, Gibbs is lucky he rebounded after flopping on him and Jason Leffler. Shoulda just kept Bobby Labonte for another year or two IMO.
To be fair about Yeley they kinda had no choice but to put him in the car. Labonte actually asked Gibbs to be released from his contract after two mediocre seasons and Gibbs granted it. I forget where I read that though. It was no different than Stewart leaving a year early and them being forced to bring up Logano or Edwards’ shock retirement and JGR bringing up Suarez. I don’t think he deserved the xfinity ride in the first place, his debut in the top 3 series was in JGR’s 18 lol. Leffler on the other hand was a mistake and he managed to DNQ the Coke 600. That’s why Labonte had FedEx on his 18 car and he almost won.
2006 and 2007 NASCAR at the plate tracks, repaved Talladega, gen 4 cars, Chevy Monte Carlo ss template, NBC and tnt telecast because of the camera setups, Benny Parsons, Joe Gibbs fielding Chevrolets, Earnhardt Jr. manned the dei #8 bud car and Jeff Gordon with his colorful Pepsi machines. To me the last great years for NASCAR.
I remember that, I was listening on the radio... I didn't really want a rookie (who hadn't paid his dues) to win in his first race. Now, he's one of my favorites.
The next chapter should be: at a track he had never seen before, that season, Denny Hamlin swept both races at Pocono his rookie year, from the pole each race, despite spinning out on Lap 51 of the Pocono 500 (while leading).
@Extraordinary The yellow car almost got flipped dumbass. How about you shut your mouth instead of saying "fucking idiot" without realising that you are one.
Only one Nascar driver has over 50 wins with no title and that's Junior Johnson. Denny now has 44 wins and is almost a lock to end up in that rare company of 50 plus wins. The question is will he join Junior Johnson as the second driver to win over 50 and have no title to show for it
Pxcam20 Racing did you not watch the recent Superspeedway races? Those had lots of passes. Hell, this year's Geico 500 had more lead changes than in the 2001 Daytona 500, and that's saying something.
After seeing some solid finishes at the end of the 2005 season this win concreted Denny Hamlin as my favorite driver and I never looked back. Been a few rough years but he is definitely a wheelman. Go Denny Go!!
It’s amazing to me how folks make it to the top. Take this with a grain of salt, but a few years ago I was getting my house painted by a company out of Chesterfield, Virginia who sponsored Denny at southside speedway in Chesterfield. I got to talking to the fella and he told me about the engine builder for Denny’s cars when He raced at southside Speedway. He went on to say that fella could build an engine like no one else but sadly he died of a cocaine overdose. So Denny racked up wins at that small speedway, which drew attention to JD Gibbs, hence the rest is history and the fella that built the fast engines isn’t around anymore. Crazy life man. Right place right time.
Stewart knew that if he got ahead, shit mightve gotten crazy or even loose so he pulled a Dale Sr. and just made sure his teammate won and held the others back. May not be the biggest fan of Tony but you gotta respect it cause he showed on 4 to go that he couldve just pulled away, instead chose to give the rookie his 1st w, what a g
I have like 3 favorite drivers of 2021 (1 for each manufacturer) Denny, Joey (don't get mad at me idk who to pick for ford and I used to be a joey guy :c) (maybe Chase Briscoe if he drives a ford idk), and finally we have idk maybe Austin Dillon
I don't understand why Denny gets crapped on still to this day... C'mon guys he's one of the nice guys of NASCAR.. remember his 2020 Daytona 500 interview where even though he won the race, once he found out what happened to Ryan Newman, stopped celebrating And his voice was trembling? Oh btw #RIPLEFTURN #RIPJDGibbs
The Duels & The Shootout are thee best races of any kid in all of Motorsports. Those shootouts are the best. It’s always surprised me that they don’t get more hype for them. NASCAR would gain so many new fans if they get them all catching those races for their 1st races But NASCAR is too worried about promoting The 500 They should be promoting The Gatorade Duels & The Budweiser Shootout Then people will be hooked and surely catch The 500 after seeing those leading up to it. & Don’t call me surely Shirley
I love restricter plate racing , especially the final laps. As long as the drivers don’t get crazy too early and take out half the field then I love it , but when they start being too aggressive too early & mess the whole thang up that’s when I can’t stand it. Lol Really though. There’s nothing more exciting in sports than the final 20 of Daytona & Taladega. Well...other than that yr of the ridiculously stupid tandem drafting. That was garbage.
