My mind blowing fact: A Portuguese king once staged a duel between a rhino and an elephant and offered the rhino (stuffed) to the pope. Full story: In 1514, Afonso de Albuquerque, Governor of the Portuguese Indies, received from King Modofar an enormous rhino, which was sent to Lisboa as a gift to Manuel I. The rhino weighed more than 2 tonnes and made quite a fuss all throughout Europe for it was the first live rhino in Europe since the 3rd century. Knowing of the mortal hate between elephants and rhinos, Manuel I organized a fight that resulted in the panic and rapid escape of the elephant. After this, the king decided to offer the famous rhino to the pope along with other treasures. Unfortunately, the ship sank of the coast of Génova and all crew was lost, but still, the rhino was embalmed and sent to the pope anyway. In Portugal this rhino was immortalized with statues in the Torre de Belém and in the Mosteiro de Alcobaça. A pretty interesting story in my opinion...just hope you like it as well!
