Who is Dale Brisby!? Dale Brisby is a legendary bull riding gypsy soul that is always on to the next one! He crawls outta bed the same way he crawls into the bucking chute, ready to keep it 90! He loves spurring big brahmer necks for big money checks. you can find him at the pay window, behind the bucking chutes, in the chute, or even busting broncs and tearing down honky tonks! He's been 90 in Maine, Spain, Spokane, and Ala-bame! Thank you for taking a moment to enjoy his shenanigans on the road, at a rodeo, or at home at Radiator Ranch! We all know that one guy who's always playin. You find yourself wondering every time he opens his mouth if its a serious story or another joke. You think to yourself, "You play too much! But it is funny. And you're good looking. And I want to name my kid after you. And you're a legend. And I want you to kiss my wife on the mouth!" Well that guy is me! Sometimes when I open my mouth, I don't even know if what I'm about to say is credible, so I can't imagine how you feel! However, if it isn't true, it otta be! Thanks again for joining!

Neat to hear about the commercial livestock shows. We have nothing even close to that in upstate NY (😝). Texas is a different world, love learning about it and some of your upbringing.

I learned from a old coworker that if you are 5 minutes late or 30 minutes late. Late is late. Also, there is no need to be late and hungry so stop and get breakfast.

Gems of knowledge for those of us that know nothing about "western". Like your Netflex Series I appreciate your explanations; they add depth to the story and help to build "outsiders" enjoyment and interest. Logan West is a favorite guest; your friendship and respect is apparent and that has value and worth. Being a retired Small Business Consultant, your business skills are right on; especially employee relationships. God bless.

I worked for a sale barn in high school, in Kansas for 3 (85-88) years, 2-4 days a week depending on size of sales, I learned so much there, looked for to cattle sale every Saturday, but hog sale on Wednesdays sucked especially the clean up. But I made good money, plus the family that owned it would do profit sharing for really big sales

The Showmanship deal in College is called the Little I. Everyone in Animal Science I had to participate as part of the class. The coaches are made up of Ag Ed students that are about to go do their student teaching. It was pretty embarrassing for me, as I was a 50 year old Animal Science student. (Finance major the first time around in college.) It was a blast the next year as a coach. Halter breaking the heifers ensued in some funny wrecks, and actually was a good practical experience for the coaches. My daughter stockshowed pretty extensively... teaching other people's Kids is very much different than teaching your own. My favorite thing about teaching Ag when I started was stock shows...it became the least favorite part of my job.

This one is a tie - so close I couldn’t separate them. The first comes at the first of the movie, back at Lonesome Dove when Bol infers that Gus may be too old for romance anymore and Gus sets him straight. He says, “The older the violin, the sweeter the music.” Following soon after that scene comes Call’s advice to Newt. Call hands him his first pistol and says,”Better to have that and not need it than need it and not have it.”

I began with Call and we end with him. Though Gus gets a great number of the best lines, Woodrow gets, without question, the most powerful, most quoted line of all. After Call beat an army scout to a pulp, the horrified townspeople - who have never witnessed such violence before - are standing around in shock and seem to require an explanation. Call obliges them. He says, “I hate rude behavior in a man. I won’t tolerate it.” 😊

Woodrow has just buried Gus and puts up the grave marker made of the famous Hat Creek Cattle Company sign. Woodrow says: “I guess this’ll teach me to be careful about what I promise in the future.”

❤The San Antonio bar scene has several great lines together, so I decided to count them as one quote. The bartender, upon insulting Gus and Call, gets his nose broken when Gus slams his face into the oak bar. Gus explains: “Besides a whiskey, I think we will require a little respect. . . . If you care to turn around, you will see what we looked like when we was younger and the people around her wanted to make us senators. What we didn’t put up with back then was doddlin’ service, and as you can see, we still don’t put up with it.” As they rode away, Woodrow tells Gus he’s lucky he didn’t get thrown in jail and Gus says, “Ain’t much of a crime, whackin’ a surly bartender.” 50:47

Gus lays out a prescription for Lorie’s future happiness. She is obsessed with going to San Francisco, and he wants her to understand that that dream is likely a misguided one. “You see, life in San Francisco is still just life. If you want any one thing too badly, it’s likely to turn out to be a disappointment. The only healthy way to live life is to learn to like all the little everyday things - like a sip of good whiskey in the evening, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk, or a feisty gentleman like myself.”

Gus gets exasperated with Woodrow because Woodrow, to Gus’s way of thinking, is being dense. Gus says: “Woodrow, you just don’t ever get the point - ‘It’s not dyin’ I’m talkin’ about, it’s livin’.”

😢Gus finds July Johnson burying his son, and Jenny and Rosco. July is naturally distraught, blaming himself, saying he should have stayed with them. Gus says: “Yesterday’s gone, we can’t get it back.” But he does assure him that if he ever runs into Blue Duck again, he will kill him for him.

❤This quote punctuates the scene when Jake Spoon must be hanged along with the murdering horse thieves he has thrown in with. Jake pleads his case but Gus has little sympathy. He says, “You know how it works, Jake. You ride with the outlaw, you die with the outlaw. Sorry, you crossed the line.”

That is my BIGGEST pet peeve. Do NOT be late. period. I'd rather be 30 mins early than one min late. When your late and if your not dying then that just tells me you have no respect for yourself or anyone for that matter.
