It's fun to watch Robert try to keep up with the narrative. He's trying and he's very smart and it's also fun

Nice video discussions by the way, always good. Keep it up. My only general suggestion, in the spirit of improvement, is that everyone should always try better to speak slowly, clearly and one at a time without cross-over talk.

This is one of my (if not THE) all time favourite discussions online! Thank you Robert! I cannot wait to find and read all of your work Mr. Holt! I am enthralled forever more!

I don’t really see how we can know that anything is unprovable. Maybe just the limit of our human understanding

Fascinating maths philosophy. The puzzle is that, as Holt says the smartest maths people see something in mathematical structures. This borders on religion but in our culture religion or mysticism is suspect, and for valid reasons, but the other extreme is that intellectuals run to materialism as a sort of shower after touching dirt. When Laurence Krauss was on the Joe Rogan podcast Krauss talks about this maths platonic weirdness but he said it in passing and it went over Joe's head.

Spec relativity: Holt didn.t mention the lorence transformation in maxwell's eqs. it was sort of a sitting duck, math'ly, in retrospect. it seems to me -am i wrong?

Around 3:45 Wright is right - it's not pronounced Gurdel. In fact, the two syllables are similar, but the first one is longer and goes towards o.

Science already understands why mirrors reflect sideways and trees in the lakes reflection, up and down. Just google/ RU-vid it. Fascinating.

@Oners82 what feynman describes is the transformation of an image along an axis, precisely mathematical. Mathematics is just the formalization of exactly what you describe. We have said the very same thing in a slightly different way. Maths is entirely geometry and spacial reasoning. It is the exact same thing as how you have expressed it, except that i understand what language you speak -- you don't understand me (maths). I'm surprised you would use Feynman as an example when this is precisely his stance as well (analogous to our differing comprehensions).... To paraphrase Feynman: They say science takes away from the beauty; but do i see less... or more...?

..."in order to achieve the position seen in the reflection we must rotate on the vertical axis 180 degrees. ...front/back reflection for a 180 degree rotation..." Shit, you are absolutely right and i am completely wrong. This doesn't sound like a mathematical geometrical and spatial description at all. What was i thinking?..

Good topics and conversation around them. Check out our movie "Digital Physics" if you're interested in Goedel, infinity, philosophy, mathematics, physics, etc. We're still looking for our first blog interview (hint, hint)

GODEL WAS EVIDENTLY AWARE OF THE SELF REFERNTIAL PARADOX AND WAS SO CLEVER HE KNEW HOW TO TRANSLATE IT TO MATHEMATICS. A GENIUS ADMIRED BY ANOTHER GENIUS LIKE ALBERT EINSTEIN.

-6:15 What can convince you there are parts of reality we can never understand (God). Symbolic patterns of reality underlie the meaning of God's Word. Try to understand Orthodox Christian Iconography is symbolic of God's Word much like the books in the Holy Bible, Architecture, and life. Jonathan Pageau on YT can help you see what I mean. Just be patient and you'll see why Jesus Christ, who is fully man and fully God, is the ultimate paradox.

Math is only a tool, not reality Reality is there without Math, but cause reality follows certain rules, these certain rules can be captured by Marh, witch is nothing but ruleful thinking. Math does not have life on its own, it is only a powerful and abstract help to see through complexity, a very abstract help very reductive, sometimes that much reductive, so the whole thing gets out of sight. Still, when one has a lively relationship with Math, you can live in this house of formulae like in a real house, only with mathematical furniture, so you feel in an instant that the composition of the furniture or symbols are just right, and you get this shiver of having found some combination of truely fitting mathematical elements. Good mathematicians know this feeling of flow, one can feel in other fields also, when you are in line with truth, with all there is in this moment. So, even the most obscure ideas like in physics these days can be correctly calculated with math, with some fitting assumptions, even when they are fancy blown up nothings, but how reliable is this, when the theories behind the calculations come from little minds in our time? We miss Einstein, who was not a good mathematician, but a true walker through his mind of thought experiments, who had to put all his findings afterwards into the only accepted framework of Math with suffering. Ideas come bevore they get expressed by language or by Math.

So, a leftie sheep thinker, thinks about math, a method to describe reality in a abstract form, a heavy task fore some, but worth trying;)

Mathematics is reality and exists independent of the universe, it's the universe that doesn't really exist. The universe is merely a transient shadow of this underlying reality, one of infinitely many mathematical structures, not at all special except to us who happen to be derived from this particular mathematical structure. The universe is not real, there is no physical reality, those things we call particles or energy or forces are merely mathematical structures and we ourselves are merely slightly more complex mathematical structures; they are transient manifestations of the underlying mathematical reality, but do not exist in any meaningful sense beyond the mathematics reality they mirror. Our senses are flawed and limited, we can gain no meaningful knowledge from them, we can only gain the facade of knowledge by comparing our crude observations to the underlying reality of the universe, mathematics, but in the end it is just a subsection of a priori mathematical knowledge. Of course, that's only a hypothesis, just like your statement. But I'd argue it's a better hypothesis, it assumes only a priori knowledge, only reason and number, and does not add the unnecessary complexity of observation. The reliance on observation is the fundamental flaw of empiricism. Observation is so flawed and fraught with problems, from finite limitations to lack of resolution to a level of uncertainty that makes proof impossible due to only being able to ever see part of the picture, that it can never give knowledge and can only allow for conjecture.
