He's obviously not smart. Creating Alibaba requires literally 0 intelligence. Basically everyone can do it and it's more about being there at the right time than anything else. If he started from scratch now he wouldn't achieve anything. Listening to him here clearly paints the picture of a less than average human individual.

He was an English teacher, and he could not speak English correctly at times, that should be a sign for him to stop speak English publicly out of self awareness..he even try to debate Must representing China entrepreneurs..
A fine example by Jack that you don’t have to be intelligent to achieve great things, just be extremely confident without any rational basis. Learn from this dude! 😎👌
Jack is intelligent. Both are not software engineers and are not an expert in the AI field. Jack by coincidence is probably right about AI it won't take over the world. Most people get this wrong including super smart physicist stephen hawking's. It's like a physicist commenting on a law argument when they know nothing about law. Same with software engineering

I think he talks about predictions future above centuries years 99% would be wrong. For example about 150 years ago who would imagine technology advance so fast. Some predictions failed. If you watched movies about year 2000 cars would be flying, civilization collapse. Prediction: 'Millennium Bug' in 2000, where some people predicted chaos in computer networks. Prediction: Thomas Edison said Everything will be made of steel Prediction: Recorded music will destroy all musical ability Prediction: Electricity is just a fad Prediction: In 1950, Associated Press writer Dorothy Roe used what she called “scientific evidence” to predict that by the year 2000, all women would be six feet tall. Prediction: We’re all going to live forever-ish until 2030 said a friend of Winston Churchill, high-powered lawyer FE Smith, wrote in 1922 of medical advances Prediction: Telephones will never catch on In 1876, the President of Western Union, William Orton, dismissed phones as a “toy” when Alexander Graham Bell offered to sell him the patent for $100,000. According to True West magazine, Orton wrote an internal memo stating, “The idea is idiotic on the face of it. Furthermore, why would any person want to use this ungainly and impractical device when he can send a messenger to the telegraph office and have a clear written message sent to any large city in the United States?” 99% predictions about future failed. About Mars he said it's better invest billions or trillions dollars here on Earth Planet has big resources not explored than invest on Mars without return short deadline. About AI yes Elon Musk is right. AI will be the future. Probably replace 80% all of jobs and create a useless mass humans. www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/may/20/silicon-assassins-condemn-humans-life-useless-artificial-intelligence
That's what happens when you're surrounded by yes men who constantly praise everything you say - you start to lose your ability to discern what's true and what isn't. It's not like Elon Musk is completely immune to this either.
Abcd K anyone with an empire dedicated to business and markets requires knowing as much as possible about tech don’t u think? It’s growing so much don’t u think it has an affect on every market 🤷♂️
@@mustangtris4955 It's not Jack Ma doesn't know a thing about Ai. I am talking about the scope these two leaders were having conversation with was completely different. Each of them did not get the joke the other's telling due to language barrier and cultural difference. Ma is a business person, and from what I understand, he was talking about how human has control over our destiny because AI does not have emotional intelligence. He keeps promoting his business saying Alibaba Intelligence because he is trying to convince everyone to start a business to have the AI work for them instead of being controlled by AI. You can check out this book about how Chinese Tech companies are: AI Superpowers by Kaifu Li. What Elon Musk has been talking about, was just very empty to Jack Ma. He was trying to be witty, but Jack Ma also didnt get his jokes. Musk also didn't get Jack Ma's self deprecating, and kind of 'lecturing' style of speaking. There are many CEO's in America who knows nothing about tech, for example, TI's former CEO came from a hospitality background. Jack Ma is a leader, and he is good at business. Musk is technical, I would say. I don't think Ma and Musk were really having a conversation there
Response from Quora “So the whole "Elon Musk vs Jack Ma" video showed up on my recommended feed. I watched the full debate, and judging from the myriad RU-vid comments thinking Jack Ma isn't very intelligent, I wanted to come out and defend him. Full disclaimer: I'm chinese, I'm from the same city as Jack ma (Hangzhou), but I grew up in America since I was 5 and I'm an american citizen. so both my chinese and english are decent. The first thing I want to emphasize is while Jack Ma speaks decent english (and was in fact an english teacher), he is by no means able to communicate fully his ideas in English. A lot of his ideas sound simple, almost childlike, which is why people are bashing his intelligence. If he were to speak in Chinese, you would understand many details about these ideas that reflect Ma's deep understanding of these topics. "I call AI alibaba intelligence." He's making a joke. in China alibaba is well-known for having the foremost deep-thinking AI, which has amazing human speech recognition, research ability, critical thinking, etc. It's funny because Elon Musk spends a lot of time talking about AI's ability to play chess, Go, etc, while the AI that Jack Ma is familiar with, is already dealing with things with ridiculously larger numbers of freedom than chess or Go. (simple example - show a computer the pictures of 10000 babies and 10000 adults. Alibaba's AI will be able to figure out which baby grows up into which adult). "I'm not a tech guy - I think more about life. I think AI will open a world where we will understand ourselves better." people on YT think Ma is talking nonsense - but Ma is talking philosophically here about the impacts of AI. Keep in mind that Ma, while not claiming to be a "tech guy", has an extremely deep understanding of AI due to his company's work on AI. his view on AI is that it is not a threat, but rather a helper, like electricity or the internet. Musk, on the other hand, considers AI a threat to human civilization. There isn't a right or wrong here, this is their respective world views. "A lot of people... have "college smartness", but people like us have street smarts". this is one of those lines where you kind of have to understand Jack Ma's worldview, where he prioritizes making mistakes, experimenting, creating (street smarts), rather than studying/taking tests (college smartness). "I'm not interested in Mars... I just came back from there." That's another joke. In china, people think Ma is ugly, so they make fun of him being from "mars". So this is a self-deprecating joke. "Don't worry about jobs - you will have jobs." This is a line that you really have to understand Jack Ma's mentality, and chinese society to agree with. Musk's worry that AI will replace humans in every line of work - it's a common worry echoed by everyone. But Ma has already accepted that this will happen. His thinking is along these lines: because machines are going to replace us all in our current lines of work, we as humans need to start being more creative, more entrepreneurial, more human, and do things that machines can't do. For example, making music, singing, dancing, etc. That's the jobs Jack Ma is referring to. And because in china the expectation is that the government should take care of everyone's basic needs, he holds the worldview that humans shouldn't need to work to survive. "Humans are smart. machines are clever." This is a seemingly-laughable statement that Musk and the rest of the YT commenters laugh at, but it's a pretty deep insight that's very hard to express in words. Basically what Ma is saying is, AI is very good at doing things like memorization, mechanical tasks, logic. but humans are good at creation and synthesis. His point is, humans will never beat computers in games like chess, just like they will never beat a car at running (Yet we still watch running races, and we still watch chess games). So stop trying to compare humans to machines in this area. His point is that humans are capable of coming together, solving problems, brainstorming, creating a plan, and executing. AI may get there one day, but it's definitely not now, which is why Ma prefers to focus on the current problems. Meanwhile, Musk gets caught up in his prediction that AI will eventually replace humans on everything , which goes back to again, why Jack Ma said "99.99% of all predictions are wrong". Tbh my writing ability has decreased a lot since my college days, and I know some of my points are a bit out of focus. But I have a lot more points and happy to discuss but these are the main points I wanted to express. Tl;dr Jack Ma's words are pretty much misunderstood by everyone, especially those unfamiliar with Chinese society and culture.”
First few of your paragraphs were very clear robust facts. After that I didn't really get some of the points you made. Nonetheless you made me change my mind a little bit on Ma being a complete traditional asian.
Brooo this changed the perspective I get it when I look it how I act on internet and in real world Jack is out of China but in his brain he is still processing every thing in Chinese and then trying to convert it in English(west) at which he is clearly failing
Real Online Income Partners this is true, so when the future becomes present, you can determine if people from the past made correct predictions. He’s just saying that up until today, 99.9% of the predictions people made (that we can observe today and not something that has to do with the year 2025), have been wrong.

@@alphaomega9387 The reason that doesn't matter with AI is that it could possibly learn more than what the human that designed it intended, i.e. if the AI ended up learning that the planet is only being made worse by humans and a world of only robots would be better, it might try and make it so. It could take years, and Im not explaining it very well but its a possibility.
