i just played mrs wormwood in this musical a few days ago in a theatre program i was doing this summer. unfortunately i can’t do the program next year because i will be too old. when this number happened i started bawling my eyes out in the wings. it’s such a beautiful and emotionally impactful song. i hope i will listen to this song even when i grow up.
My school put on Matilda Jr. back in December, and three of the girls in my friend group acted in it, and another one of my friends was in crew. They (mainly the people acting in it) talked about Matilda this, Matilda that, and once Matilda ended, all they were talking about was Matilda, I miss Matilda, why did Matilda have to end?, Matilda, Matilda, Matilda! I think Matilda was the main thing that started making them get full of themselves, and when they realized I hadn't watched many musicals (for them to consider it was a musical it had to be on Broadway before anything else), and I didn't have a belty Broadway voice like them (no offense, but one of the three in Matilda really didn't either), they started making me feel bad about it. On Tuesday (2 days ago), they said I was "acting mean" and they were going to dump me in 2 days if I couldn't be "nicer". When we were outside, I told another one of my friends who used to be part of the friend group but left, she went and blew up on them, so they went ahead and dropped me then. Yesterday I really wanted them to take me back, but after talking with the two girls who were part of the friend group then left (unlike me, who was kicked out), I've realized the four that were part of Matilda are really toxic, and the girl that was my first friend at this school is just corrupted. This song was always their favorite. And it's still mine too. Because the five of them have got a lot of growing up to do. Edit nearly 2 years later: I was listening to music and saw my comment again. So, um, little update-I got into theatre the next year with The Little Mermaid, Jr., and about a month ago I played Anna in Frozen, Jr.! One of my ex-friends played Elsa, and my mom said that whenever she sang "The magic one is you," at the end, she really seemed like she meant it. We're not friends and never will be, but we have all the respect in the world for each other.
When I grow up, I will be tall enough to reach the branches That I need to reach to climb the trees You get to climb when you're grown up. And when I grow up, I will be smart enough to answer all The questions that you need to know The answers to before you're grown up. And when I grow up, I will eat sweets every day, On the way to work, and I will Go to bed late every night. And I will wake up When the sun comes up, and I Will watch cartoons until my eyes go square, And I won't care 'cause I'll be all grown up. When I grow up (x 4)... I will be strong enough to carry all The heavy things you have to haul Around with you when you're a grown up. And When I grow up (x 3)... I will be brave enough to fight the creatures That you have to fight beneath the bed Each night to be a grown up. And when I grow up, I will have treats every day, And I'll play with things that mum pretends That mums don't think are fun. And I will wake up When the sun comes up and I Will spend all day just lying in the sun. And I won't burn 'cause I'll be all grown up. When I grow up... (Ms. Honey:) When I grow up, I will be brave enough to fight the creatures That you have to fight beneath the bed Each night to be a grown up. When I grow up... (Matilda:) Just because you find that life's not fair, it Doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it, nothing will change. Just because I find myself in this story, It doesn't mean that everything is written for me. If I think the ending is fixed already, I might as well be saying I think that it's OK, And that's not right!
Doing this play in three weeks!!! I'm so excitedd!! I've done Annie last year, but was barely in any scenes and was casted as an ensemble. But this year, I'm in almost every song, and happy with my role of Amanda. I finally got the guts to sing in front of an audience and it's so unreal how I'm not shy to sing in front of people anymore, because this play has made me much stronger in so many ways. I built up the confidence to act very dramatically and sing the prettiest I can. If you're reading this and you're shy to sing for your audition, just know everyone's nervous and I'm rooting for you, practice in front of someone so you dont feel as nervous, and I wish you BEST of luck!!! I'll edit after show!! Edit: sooo we did two shows one early and one at night!!! They both went really well ofc we m made some mistakes but that’s what you do in theater! It was a very fun experience and honestly i made the best friends I ever could doing theater!!
@@duckgaming7010 my school did Annie in 2017 (I was a jr as I wasn’t in my secondary school. And the JR people were in 1 scene) and it was little girls. And Matilda is this song and I’ve heard they’re so cute (I’m a big kid with a little spotlight in Bruce)
The PCSB All County Musical of Matilda cast presents "Matilda Jr." on June 7th at 7:00 PM, and on June 8th at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Davenport High School, Florida. We hope to see you there!
I’m Bruce in my play (which is in July and I’m really excited about) and these songs really help me with my singing. Though I know most of them by heart I really like singing along to them at home :)
It's just hit me that I'm performing this play in about three weeks and I am definitely not freaking out 😫😫😫😫😫😫 Edit: crying my eyes out, just finished my last production ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Writing this comment the day after the final show. I started out as ensemble, but due to the actor for Nigel having to drop out, I was Nigel for the story. This show was a rollercoaster, but it'd be one I'd ride again. This song was my favourite, so I'm leaving this here. Every time soneone likes or leaves a reply under this comment, I'll be reminded of this amazing show. -Neve, AKA the maggot known as Nig-el :)
It’s a lot of fun! We did this production pretty recently at my theater! We had to install swings in our stage. I wasn’t in this number ( I was the Escapologist so the quick change would go been impossible) but I got to fly them down and even swing in them once!
I'm going to jtf (juinor theater festival) 2022 i may just be big kid number 2 but I'm gonna cry like a little kid when this song comes on for the last time. im 17 and love theater and want to go into as a profession because of my amazing theater teacher and my amazing cast mates
for my school production soon, there were certain kids that get to do this song in asl! i was one of the kids chosen, but i’ll still be singing! i’m so excited!
I was in matilda over the summer of 2022. It was really fun, and this year in school I joined drama club and they coincidentally chose matilda! I'm going to be playing in matilda for a second time on marh 29 & 30!!
im playing eric and im so excited to do the play! we are doing the play in the last week of january and im nervous because i have to sing the opening line in miracle
I got cast as bruce and my show is on the 30th. I'm so happy with who I got casted as. These were also the videos or club teacher used at the start of rehearsals
I have the role of Miss Honey and our show is in a couple of days and this show was such a great experience. It was such a different role for me because I normally play the belty and loud characters in my shows and now I have a timid and quiet character which is so much fun and such a great learning experience. My part in this song is something I’ve had so much trouble having confidence in and I finally am able to sing it confidently. Hopefully I do well in the show!
This is one of my audition songs for Matilda, (I’m auditioning for miss honey) Callbacks are December 5th, I’ll let you know if I make it! Update: Lol I got Eric 💀
Omg, my school is doing this this year, I'm erica(Eric but they had to change the name due to me being female) and they chose HORRIBLE people for the Matilda and the main roles, there was perfect people for the roles but they chose the solar oppisites...
I'm auditioning for Matilda in two days! Who is singing this? What are some other good roles? (I really don't want to be one of her parents, but if it comes up, I'll live, lol)
well i got lavender! and lavender is a really fun character! i’ve only done one rehearsal but i can tell that she’s a really fun character. and you already auditioned and done a lot more rehearsing than me haha. what part did you get
