Well to me, the most emotional part of the show is when the cast is singing this on the swings, and in a flash all the kids have been replaced by adults playing. It just reminds you how fast childhood is over, and you shouldn’t rush it.
I loved it, but at the end, I’d prefer if the adult(s) would sing about monsters being under the bed. It resonates more especially as we get older that there are just some inner demons you can’t get rid of.
agreed, that line was so crucial and heartbreaking for Miss Honey to sing at that point in the story, sang by her alone highlighted that that was for her and it hurt to hear.
I like the adult twist on this. The song is about hoping you'll be ready for adulthood when you get there, so having it sung by people who are already living the life the song is talking about changes the lesson. The kids are singing from a dreamy viewpoint, whereas the adults are singing from a retrospective or longing viewpoint.
Aw you know when you're a kid and you like plan out your life and you imagine yourself eating your favorite foods 24/7 and playing in a treehouse but then you go to highschool and college and everyone is like time to grow up, but it isn't like you imagined and it's actually so much worse than you ever though
Oh wow life isnt bad, life is actualy realy good. Just because you imagined a reality that will never come true doesn't mean that the world is dark and bad. Again life is realy good.
True though. I was bullied in primary school, and all I wanted was to get the hell outta there and have a fresh start. Now, my primary school is closed, my old friends moved on, and all I want now is to go back to primary school. I cannot handle the academic stresses, the social stresses of drama, boys, and everything in between. I would deal with a 100 bullies if I could go back.
I went to see the musical yesterday and I could not understand a word that was being sung. Hearing it being sung by adult professionals really hits a cord. Sounds beautiful.
When I grow up, I will be tall enough to reach the branches that I need to Reach to climb the trees you get to climb when you're grown up. And when I grow up, I will be smart enough to answer all the questions that You need to know the answers to before you're grown up. And when I grow up, I will eat sweets everyday on the way to work and I Will go to bed late every night. And I will wake up when the sun comes up and I will watch cartoons until my Eyes go square and I won't care because I'll be all grown up. When I grow up When I grow up, when I grow up, when I grow up, I will be strong enough to Carry all the heavy things you have to haul around when you a grown up. And when I grow up, when I grow up, when I grow up, I will be brave enough To fight the creatures that you have to fight beneath the bed each night to Be a grown up. And when I grow up, and when I grow up I will have treats everyday and I'll Play with things that mum pretends that mums don't think are fun. And I will wake up when the sun comes up and I will spend all day just Lying in the sun, and I won't burn because I'll be all grown up. When I grow up When I grow up, I will be brave enough to fight the creatures that you have To fight beneath the bed each night to be a grown up. When I grow up Just because you find that lifes not fair it doesn't mean you just have to Grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and bear it. Just because I find myself in this story doesn't mean that everything is Written for me if I think the ending is fixed already. I might as well be Saying I think that it's ok. And that's not right And if it's not right You have to put it right.
I've seen this musical Matilda and I thoroughly enjoyed it and my twin sister we both loved it and when it comes back into Cardiff we will watch it again thank you for the video good job well done to you guys😊😊👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great harmonies and more interesting performances in some ways by the adults. But a lot more meaning and it preserves the original emotion with the kids. It needed some kids. There is another video from West end performers that does a good job of melding both together. You can't preserve the spirit and meaning of the original work and basically write out the kids.
im singing this song for my audition for my school play, guys and dolls. My teachers advised me to audition for the big singing part but im not sure lol
I love this! First of all, I love Gina Beck (Ms Honey)! She's such a beautiful and kind women. Secondly, I don't see an issue with the adults singing it??

The Broadway and West End productions of Matilda have a few slight linguistic differences, but other than that, all of the Matilda productions across the globe are the same.
It’s already sung by these adults. Not much you whiners can do. Just enjoy it and stop comparing it. I don’t know the reason why it’s sung by the adult but I’m sure there’s a reason.
