When I Practice Guitar My Fingers Hurt - Does It Get Any Easier 

if you are a brand new player, there's only one piece of advice I have and that is to work hard NOW on getting out of the bad habit of pressing too hard on the strings. there are some great videos on RU-vid about how to train for this. it is a huge mistake that almost every beginner makes to press too hard which only causes worse pain. Speaking from experience, I can tell you that once you train your brain to do this it is extremely difficult to break the habit. I have been playing so long, that I often forget that my fingers hurt so badly when I first started until I see a video post like this. You have to push through the pain for about a month or so, but I promise it is so worth it! Playing guitar (especially jamming with other players) is probably the most fun thing I've ever done in my life!

I totally fucked up. Played on a steel acoustic guitar, started bleeding and now will probably have to wait for days before I can play again.

Thanks for the info. No wonder my fingers still hurt even though I have callouses and have been playing for about a year now.

I played lots of cords last night on the guitar for the first time, and my fingers hurt pretty bad!! But when I tried again this morning, they seemed much stronger... like this guy said... Thanks!!

good anwser. No--- your fingers will always hurt from time to time. I was in the military for 25 years and all 25 years were in the army medical dept in one form or another. One of the doctors which I worked closely with also played and he confirmed it -- while caluses are a must, the tissue under the calusus my regenerate from time to time and that includes the bones of your finger tips. SRV's guage choice was 13-56. when his fingers were sore he dropped to 10's and played a half step down.

when first started playing guitar i noticed that my fingers where starting to get really sored,heres what i did,i forgot about the pain and i continued playing guitar,i actually played so much that my skin started to come out,nothing else,theres nothing wrong in a little bit of pain on your fingers

when i first started to play my fingers hurt, but I just kept on playing and the hurting only lasted for like a week.

The biggest problem is that as you play more your fingers get callouses on the ends and that is just dead hard skin. After a while the callouses just drop off and then new ones form on the ends of your fingers on the frsh skin underneath. I've been playing over forty and this has happened thousands of times and where my fingers used to be about 3 inches long now they they have eroded away to about 3/4 of an inch...:)

@sabarsk0rp10n I think peoples fingers tend to get sore way before you'd cut them. I'd advise you take a rest when your hand ache's or when your fingers get sore. They will toughen up over time and you'll be able to play for longer without any problems.

@190light depends on how you want to play guitar, Do you want to play chords or do you want to shred like hell?

i dont have calluses but my fingers dont hurt when playing.... (yes, i do press down on the strings REALLY hard that it leaves marks on them)... WHY????

should I take a break from playing if I see scratch marks on my fingers?

Just close your eyes and play any chords, while hurting in a few days your finger wont hurt anymore

my ring finger is croocked is that a disadvantage for playing guitar?

guys, ive just bought my first guitar electric today, i can't play now because my firgers hurt sooooooooooooooooo much Ps i'm not a beginner, i used to play guitar acoustic and never felt that pain before.... what can i do ?

@MossyDrums27 dude if you are getting blisters then you must be really shredding. Ive been playing for about 20+ years with a few years break in between, and yes when you start playing again, your finger tips will hurt, get read and sore, then after a week or so you start developing callouses. In all my years Ive never once developed an actual fluid filled blister. I would probably scale back the ammount of time you are practicig or a day or two and just let the skin heal and harden..
