This 7min long battle between Good and Evil was destined at the edge of our world. That's why our protagonists dare to take a step away from this edge into the invisible Abyss.
Basically: on top of the roof is a soft death zone, where a 10sec timer kicks in and kills you at zero. But at the centre of the edge the death zone can't quite reach you. The countdown doesen't refresh instantly, it goes up after time you spend outside of it, so the longer you stand in it, the closer you get to god.
Funny how stubborn one can be, instead of playing the game, he resists with all his might, so he can win and put away his controller again, but the gods of causality didn't agree with his choice.
