1. Only someone with a room temperature IQ would say trade Marner now (Oct 2024). Last yr before UFA, NMC, he has all the leverage in the world and any return would see the Leafs get fleeced. 2. As a long suffering Leafs fan, I think Marner's biggest problem is between his ears. When he's not confident, every game plays out the same way. He does laps in the O-zone because he's determined to find the perfect seam pass to Matthews, instead of just shooting. He overthinks and that leads to simple mistakes, like a turnover or blown coverage. He sulks and then gives up on plays. Watch last year's series against Boston. Some people just aren't cut out to play in the pressure cooker that is Toronto. It's like a toxic relationship, a breakup just might be best for everyone. (come back to this comment when he wins a Cup like previous whipping boys Kessel , Bozak and Kadri)

Wanting to trade Marner doesn’t make someone an idiot. If anything it makes them smart because they’re not saying he’s bad, they just know the leafs team is one dimensional and they need to trade Marner for a top pairing RD if possible

No one is saying he’s a bad player, but the leafs need to use that marner money for better depth and competent defence. IMO they are too top heavy and while having marner would be sick for the forward core, I feel like u gotta spread the wealth for the rest of the lineup. The top 6 without marner is still pretty stacked but everything else sucks to be honest. Bottom 6, defence, and goalies are mediocre.

I'd let Marner walk his way to Pittsburgh with Dubas. There are other UFA's I'd look at.

Marner is way overpaid. Disappears in the playoffs because he is not physical enough. He isn't worth 11 million per year. He is a 7 million dollar player at most. Leafs can't trade him because he has a no trade clause. Leafs will be looking for a reduction in his new contract but he will be looking for an increase. In my opinion Nylander is much better than Marner. Nylander makes 11.5 million and marner makes 11. No way Marner should be within 500 k of Nylander. Should be much less. Leafs should offer him 7. Take it or leave it.
