When is it TOO LATE to have a child in THAILAND 

I'm 63 and couldn't imagine having small ones to take care of. After my 4th in my late 30s I saw my doctor who made it so that would could not happen again. It's the best thing I ever did.

Hi Dave. It's appropriate that I'm the first one to comment as I can relate to you. I was 60 when my son was born in Bangkok. I think I was in better shape than you since I never smoked and hardly drank any alcohol. You make a kid and you have consequences . Some good,some bad . I was financially comfortable, retired and being a full time father,in some respects, was even better than with my first two kids when I had to work hard as a young man to make ends meet . First of all, living in a 30 sq.m aprtment,3 people , it's absolutely cramped . Even so you're on the ground floor by the pool .When it's hot and humid you want to be inside with air con So your living quarters are inappropriate . Secondly you rely on two incomes so the kid is babysat by devices . Thirdly your work at night keeping late hours and having to wake up with insuffient sleep makes you irritable . The lifestyle you have is not conducive to parenting. When our son was a toddler we moved to a 129 sq.m condo and at 3 years of his age we moved to a house in Chiang mai . And when he was 5 years old we moved to my country, Australia . And Australia was a better place to bring up a kid than Thailand . You see, we did everything to try to make our son's life was better . I also had pangs of guilt about the fact that he'll lose his father before he grew up. And it effected him too when people thought I was his grandfather . It is what it is , I'm still alive and he grew up already .I think ,seeing how you feel, you should do everything to extend your life span. Live a healthy lifestyle and maybe,just maybe ,Ireland with a social safety net would be a better place for Harry's life .

Don't bank on getting anything from lreland if your a non contributor to the pension scheme l don't think you'll be entitled to anything but l'm not sure. I do know for a fact if you live in lreland you will be entitled to a non contributiory pension from the state but it won't be paid out to residents living overseas you'd want to check that out 👍

I'm older than you and have never had children even though I have been wanting them very much. I have no family of any kind. I would still consider having children but only if there is a lot of family to help support them.

I have to say I was more startled by your wife’s age and her decision to have a child, especially if doing so stemmed, even in part, from the idea that Harry would be stuck taking care of both of you. Generally, an older man has a child later in life with a much younger spouse (or, if you Mick Jagger or Michael Douglas several younger wives). You, personally, could do much to keep yourself a young “old dad”, per the excellent suggestions in the comments. But the best gift you can give Harry is to push back against the notion that he has to take care of you and/or your wife. Let him go abroad for university when the time comes and assure him that the two of you will be fine (whether or not that is true). Make a pact, a vow, an agreement with your wife that your collectively questionable decision to have a child when, and where, you did, should never hold Harry back from enjoying his own life and succeeding in whatever he pursues. Cut him loose and then figure out how the two of you can manage your old age between yourselves.

I think it's not fair on the kids to have them when you're older. You can't run around and kick the footy, or rough and tumble like a younger man. Now he's going to be an only child too right? Oh well as long as your wife has someone to support her that's what matters 🤔

Before Covid , I was scuba diving , then after Covid , could not do it at 65. Too decrepit. Instead of kids , I have 3 dogs. I am on half an acre and spend my time gardening. When you are over 60 and in my case on 4 medications , I could not cope with little kids.😅

idk Dave. Guess you could say I wonder the same thing. Speaking for myself, I would like to have a family...but I haven't found the right person for me yet. I tend to think that when I find the right person for me, then hopefully we can create a family. In terms of time...we all have a death date, and it's probably best that we generally don't know when that is. I am also willing to bet that you cherish time more with your son. You probably speak to him differently and teach him differently than you would have 30 years ago. Having our doubts is normal, but I think you might not be giving yourself enough credit.

Do something to slow down the aging process. Take advantage of the longevity/antiaging clinics in Thailand. Become more disciplined and learn about things that can be done to live longer.

No western man is too old to have a child in Thailand, we have all seen them, when I do I think thank God its not me.😅
