How much outlining is too much? I’m really trying, y’all, but writing can be so hard. Also, let me show off my AlphaSmart Neo 2!
PS. When I was watching this back, I realized that the way I described both headlights and discovery writing is specific to me and how I interpret it-please look up those terms if you want to know more and see how people who are much more intelligent than me describe them lol. I have kind of combined them in my mind, but there are nuances that I didn’t get into.

I am a 100% discovery writer... I can't write an outline ever. It would just hold me back. It's amazing how everyone approaches writing differently.

As someone who has both a Traveler and an Alphasmart Neo 2 I honestly end up using my Alphasmart waaay more, so in my opinion you really aren't missing much (thankfully I didn't have to pay full price for the Traveler because... oof). Also count me as one of the kids who used these in school growing up, although it was the older 3000 model instead of the Neo. I'm only a couple years older than you, so maybe its was down to the state/school district to decide where these things were implemented in schools. They were useful for their time, and glad they're finding new life now for writers. Hope you're enjoying your device! I'm sorry about the kitty woes, I hope she's doing ok

@@brokenbacktango I’m so sorry I missed this! But thanks for that insight! I love my Alphasmart, but the curiosity is killing me, it’s like I’m looking at the Traveler and wondering if the grass may be a teeny tiny bit greener. 😅 I keep checking eBay for people selling theirs for a much better deal, thinking I’d be willing to try it then, but no luck yet. (And I can’t blame them! With as much as it costs, I wouldn’t want to sell it for peanuts either lol.)

Oh man I also wanted a freewriter traveler and ran into the exact same issues you did a) the price killed me a little ($840 aud 🥲) and while I don’t think the lag would bother me too much (i dont tend to look at the screen when im typing) I cant say that for certain which puts me off.

@@patch5383 I can’t lie, I regularly check eBay for secondhand Travelers! I’m so curious and intrigued and I want to try it SO bad, but the price is wayyyy too much. AUD pricing is crazy!! 😱 It looks like such a neat little device, but I can’t understand how they justify the cost.

I am also struggling coming back to writing since I stop for almost three years due to fatigue coming from outwork office, every night I struggle and I don't know when I start returning to my journey as an author.

@@megreads9 I’m so sorry to hear that! I went a really long time not writing too, and it’s one of the most depressing feelings. I wish I had some words of advice or wisdom, but the only thing I can say that helped me is learning not to not chase perfection and to just write what I found fun. I was writing with the idea of what I could market and what would sell best and what other people want to see, and that burnt me out so fast. Now I just write the stories I want to see, and that’s been a big help. Again, I wish I had some advice, but I really hope it gets better for you soon!!

Oh snap, I carried one of those with me while I was walking the Appalachian Trail so that I could avoid writing even while I had absolutely nothing better to do!
