I love watching these because i feel the pain and I’m glad there are Japanese people out there who see the problem. This year when I taught cook to the students, the English teacher was testing a student in another room so I taught them クック(kukku). The next class together, the teacher decided to go over the vocab in katakana again cuz she doesn’t think the kids and I can handle it on our own. She wrote kokku………The kids all just stared at me. I’m sure more than one of them had google searched it after getting home from the looks of it. I think they saw the horror in my eyes and one of them thankfully braved up to ask if kukku was ok. (I had told them that kokku sounds like a bad word that I can’t teach them or they’ll never see me again, so I’m glad they chose to correct it as opposed to laughing about it behind the teacher’s back.) When asked by the teacher, I quickly said kukku is better than kokku. But there are many times when I don’t get the chance to correct these problem words. ‘Sit’ is the worst one.
