Kinda hard to appreciate a movie where the original voice actor of the MAIN CHARACTER ended up dying of a stroke while recording his lines for said movie.
@@Devilsblight86 That's true and I can't really argue with that. If anything, I only appreciate this movie now because it's the last thing he ever did and he put everything in to it until the end.
It’s one thing to have celebrity voices, but having celebrity voices at the expense of professional voice actors is a true crime that shouldn’t go unpunished. Just because you have a celebrity voice, doesn’t mean they’ll be good at their role. It makes me feel bad for all the professional voice actors who don’t get enough fame or time to shine in cinema.
Isn't it always at the expense of professional voice actors? Every role that's given to a celebrity actor is one denied to a professional. Though I guess there's times when the role is specifically made and written with a celebrity in mind.
I'm a little mixed on the subject. Celebrities sometimes do a really good job. Tom Hanks is amazing as Woody. I couldn't imagine him with any other voice. Also the same few voice actors are in everything. Name a random cartoon and Tom Kenny has been in it.
The problem is they are often hired for their fame not their skill at voice acting. There are people better known for physical acting who take a liking to it, take it seriously and end up doing more voice acting like Clancy Brown and Mark Hamill who are now better known for voice work. If you’re voice nerd like me you watch animated stuff BECAUSE of the voice cast but I’ll avoid a film if clearly they are going for clout and casting untested famous actors. If someone is bad at the task then it’ll make an inferior product.
I had no idea the original series only lasted like two years. "Where's my flying car like in the Jetsons" is probably still going to be a relevant phrase in 2062.
I would have just had Tiffany do the singing voice to get the best of both worlds. Swapping out speaking roles on classic shows almost always sounds awkward. They had already done just that in "Rocking with Judy Jetson" where BJ Ward provided Judy's singing voice but retained Janet Waldo for speaking roles. There was no reason for them to do anything different here except to make more money.
I think I've read somewhere that Tiffany wasn't actually aware that the original voice actor had already recorded the entire movie's worth of dialogue and felt guilty about the whole thing, but I can't find anything about that now wonder if that's true
George Jetson was born at the end of July this year within the show's lore and this would be the ideal time to make another Jetsons movie, I will occasionally use the wizard Scooby-Doo in my future plush series whenever a wizard or a fortuneteller is needed and also we need more Hanna-Barbera representation in MultiVersus.
@@smb-c3po because obviously it was just a theory according to for example Vailskibum youtube news and that the timezone wasnt necessarily revealed in the series since basically the series is set in a standard future with style coming from the 1960s artstyle if you know what i mean
The turmoil with the aging voice actors in "Jetsons: The Movie" and having to finish the film with some new ones for a few more months was what led to the delay of the movie from a December 1989 theatrical release to a July 1990 release. "The Wizard," a film starring Fred Savage and Beau Bridges, which felt like a kids' version of "Rain Man" about a kid with the talent for playing Nintendo video games, was released in in its place.
I heartily agree that Tiffany should have been the singing voice only. I'm one of those who nostalgically love the songs from this movie but seriously, girl can't act. It was an absolute crime to replace the voiceover work. I think part of the problem is people seem to forget that voiceover actors are, you know, actors. It's a highly skilled profession that really needs some respect from those bankrolling movies. Thanks for taking the time to cover this, such a blast from the past.
Listening to her songs for the movie on repeat right now, they're as great as ever! Definitely nothing to dislike about that aspect of her involvement. Judy had had a singing voice before, so there's no reason they couldn't do it here and still advertise her music featuring.
Completely agree with this. Tiffany's singing is actually really nice, and I don't think it sounds too different from the original speaking voice of Judy to be believable as her singing voice. They could have had the star power advertisement through the songs, but kept the original voice actress for the speaking parts.
What in the world was Tiffany doing in The Jetsons Movie anyway? Did they think Tiffany fans and The Jetsons fans shared a demographic or something? Honestly, it would've been better to make a Jem movie and come up with an original character for Tiffany to voice.
For comparison, Tiffany's voice for Judy is slightly different from Janet Waldo's voice, and Waldo was still in good health at the time compared to George O' Hanland, Penny Singleton, and Mel Blanc. Tiffany probably would've been fine as Judy's singing voice, but that's about it. I also agree that replacing iconic voice actors for celebrities just doesn't seem fair to them because their voices are what bring the characters to life, and how people recognize them. From where I sit, you shouldn't recast voice actors unless they're unhealthy, or have passed away, and you can't just replace them with any old celebrity.
@Marc Baker it was Tiffany's management that wanted her to do the voice and the singing and if not then they wouldn't let her singing voice be used in the movie! Meanwhile Janet Waldo had already done her voiceovers for the film! Sadly it remains unreleased and unheard to date! 🤔😢😮🤷
It does suck that Janet Waldo had all of her lines already recorded and then for them to cut them and have Tiffany come in and re-recorded the lines. I kinda wished they'd kept Janet's voice in the movie and have Tiffany do the singing. I still enjoy the movie. I would of been 8 years old when it came out. I do remember my mom getting me the movie poster of The Jetsons for my birthday. Wished I still had it. Not to sure whatever happened to it.
What makes the recasting of Fred in Scoob weirder is that Frank Welker himself was in the movie as Scooby himself. So they had Fred’s voice actor in the movie since the beginning voicing one of the main characters but didn’t have him voice Fred himself.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 No. Frank's Fred was still just the serious and determined fearless leader. Always was and still is. Zac's Fred is far more silly, makes more quips, and is more of the fun-loving gentle giant who would protect his friends and stand up for them whenever they need it.
Tiffany Renee Darwish's voice acting was the big reason why this movie bombed...on the other hand, Jeff Bergmann tried to save the film when Mel Blanc and George O'Hanlon, Sr. passed away during production...
I have never understood the decision to recast a beloved voice actor from a TV show. There is a reason why the person was cast, because the voice fits well for the character they were going for, the charm they bring to the role, and it just sounds natural. Having a celeb voice the character just feels like a cheap way to get more money and 9/10 times, it fails because the celebs sound like they are just reading off the page and not really putting forth the emotion or tone of the character. It really pulls you out of the experience as that celeb voice is not one you're used to. (And even if younger fans won't understand the star power of the voice actors for the TV show, I bet a lot of older fans will cuz they have grown up with them.)
One reason for that is that nearly the entire cast was of advanced age (Daws Butler, the original Elroy, had already died), and even Janet Waldo didn't sound as young as she did in the 1960s. The producers also wanted a popular music artist for Judy's songs. Enter Tiffany, who in my opinion at least actually did well at both.
I remember seeing this movie when I was little. I loved it and I remember not understanding why my dad was so disappointed in it and disliked it so much. Now that I have a kid and studios often tap in to those Nostalgia Dollars, but sometimes phone it in, I fully understand.
The Scoob recasting was INSANE. Gina Rodriguez and Amanda Seyfried have never put butts in seats (check out the box office returns for Miss Bala and Epic), and Zac Efron hasn't put butts in seats since High School Musical. They should've kept the original cast and just used guest star cameos if they needed star power so badly.
Hearing how things went in the production of the film, including the death of George O'Hanlon and Janet Waldo being replaced by a singer who's popularity had waned by the time of the film's release had pretty much soured it in my eyes.
I have very complicated feelings about the film, with all of this fascinating me since I was young. I think Tiffany's actual songs for the film, especially You and Me, are enjoyable and nostalgic isolated from the situation. But knowing Waldo finished her performance only for it to be almost entirely thrown out, especially as someone that grew up loving her as Judy, has always made it hard to enjoy this movie myself. And knowing what happened to George O'Hanlon makes it even more awkward to watch, especially whenever George's voice noticeably changes to Bergman's replacement fill-in and becomes a reminder of it. The film itself, as far as story and pacing goes, isn't perfect even without those, so it doesn't do the best job advocating for revisiting outside of nostalgia for myself.
when I was in kindergarten on the last day of school we voted on a movie to watch on the VHS player and this was it, so I have very fond memories of the movie, I have since heard about the whole Tiffany recasting drama but I never knew that George's voice actor died while recording this that's makes it even sadder 😢 BTW, we are now further away from the movie than the movie was from the original TV show's debut😮
Jeff Bergman did do an amiable job voicing Jetson and Spacely after both George and Mel passed away. Eventhough his Spacely was an ittleoff compared to Mel. At least his George was closer to the original voice at the time. As for Tiffany, they should had just use her for the songs, and maybe give her a different character to voice instead of replacing Janet as Hudy. Patrick also did an good job taking over Elory from Daws Butler who sadly passed away before the recording session started. Keep in mind that MCA was the parent company of Universal at the time so it's possible that they had an day about Tiffany as well. I will give this film credit at least they got the then (surviving and mostly) current cast back for 1 last time unlike Scoob.
To be fair, Frank Welker, Grey Delisle Griffin, Matthew Lillard, Casey Kasem, Mindy Cohn and Don Messick were voicing Scooby and the Gang alot longer than Kate Micucci did. Okay, okay, mostly Frank Welker, Casey Kasem and Grey Delisle Griffin, but you get what I mean.
He really did. I'm still surprised at how good he sounds in that role. When a celebrity actually shows up and gives a performance that understands the essence of the character rather than just being The Rock as The Rock is one of the best exceptions.
Didn't even know the movie got rid of Penelope Pitstop's voice actress until I saw a tweet ranting about Hollywood actors replacing long-time voice actors for big screen roles (Scoob including).
Honestly, Hollywood’s bad with decisions when it comes to voice acting. The main reason is always the same, “We need a celebrity to draw in big crowds” showing how greedy they’re for money when a character already has an iconic voice to help carry a film. Scoob, the upcoming Mario movie, etc. I hope one day we get a movie on the big screen that doesn’t feature celebrities, but features VA’s reprising their roles from the TV screen. Tails current video game VA was a good start thou, since they used her in Sonic 2 movie.
I'm sorry, but the Mario movie's "stunt casting" outrage is lost on me, as MY definitive Mario and Luigi will always be a pro wrestler and a sitcom mainstay. Took me a while to get used to Charles's Mario with the outrageous Italian accent.
This would've not happen in Japan for they have a wide respect for their voice actors especially from a beloved IP. Sucks that they couldn't keep her for regular lines and just use the singer for the song.
Sometimes I wonder if Jetsons: The Movie would have fared a bit better if they stuck to the 1989 release. The plot and animation for the film definitely could have been better, but it’s a decent enough kids film.
The thing is.........is that I wouldn't mind Zefron and Amanda's casting if it was a live action movie in the 2000s-early 2010s, preferably after the first Scooby movie. Don't really see Gina when I think Velma, though.
Having them do that to Janet, ESPECIALLY back then is just… How could Hanna Barbera let those big head studio idiots get away with that? They were both still around back then, so THEY should of had control over thier own VA’s and characters… The others I can understand as they unfortunately passed away, (and it’s honestly sad how Hanna Barbera had such really big plans for them for the movie as they expected everyone from the original to return, just for them to pass away while in pre-production getting replaced and then on top of that Janet getting replaced, (although probably the right thing to do was probably not even releases it if mostly everyone was gonna get replaced eventually), but having them do that to Janet as she was still around having her record all her lines and happy to be Judy (probably not long until stopping voicing her), in a big project just to have everything and all that taken away to be replaced by a dumb celebrity that doesn’t even sound like the actual character, she must of been bummed and heartbroken, (I heard the same for “Scoob!” when it happened to most of the cast), but back then, the fact they basically exploited Janet for Tiffany while Hanna Barbera had no control is just sad… It’s sad in general they STILL do this like in Scoob, The Mario Movie, etc. ) The only time they should do this is if the VA’s pass away, then that’s unfortunately understandable, (kinda like those two Top Cat movies from 2011 and 2015, Arnold Stang unfortunately already passed so they got a big name celebrity to voice Top Cat, and ironically honestly almost REALLY close to Arnold’s original… Ironically too around the time this came out he actually voiced Top Cat for a movie in 1988. XD But you don’t just replace a VA if they are still around and can do the voice… Janet, Charles Martinet, etc.
Hey @Scoobytopia despite the negative feedback about Tiffany’s voice acting as Judy Jetson in Jetsons: The Movie (1990), I think that her voice was awesome and perfect for the character in this movie.
@Scoobytopia And even though Tiffany re-recorded the dialogue for Judy, one of Janet Waldo’s lines and vocal effects for the character were kept in the final film.
I didn't know about all the havok that there was on producing The Jetsons film, it is truly heartbroken how all these "important" executives only care about money, even at the point of ruining a whole cartoon. When it comes to voice acting recasts with celebrities who DON'T do a good performance, and "adapting" a cartoon to modern ages including social "tendencies" to attract bigger audiencies, high executives don't hesitate to do this as long as it's profitable, despite puting the cartoon's escence at the edge (SCOOB is a clear example, and now with the cancellation of Holiday Haunt, it's getting worse).
I do really enjoy Tiffany’s songs from the film, but the fact that she had already begun to decline so much in popularity by the time the film was finally released is an incredibly ironic.
Tiffany sounded nothing like Judy Jetson. It sounded so wrong to me as a kid and still to this day it weirds me out to hear it. I wish that the Janet cut still existed.
Ngl I thought this was just a movie riding on the tails of The Flinstones, didn't know there was more to it 😬 Also I don't think there is anything wrong with changing the voice cast, even if they're well known, as long as they make the character believable.... in the case of Scoob it was quite the miss unfortunately. A live action Jetsons would also look dope af if made today so that'd be cool to see
Wouldn't it make a thousand times more sense to have Tiffany play a new character that has a big role. Just rewrite the story to include her in the first place rather than doing a last minute change.
They could've just cast Tiffany as the *singing* voice of Judy! B.J. Ward was the singing voice for Judy in "Rockin' with Judy Jetson" but Janet Waldo remained as the speaking voice for Judy. Instead, they replaced Janet Waldo entirely and had Tiffany do the *speaking* and singing voices for Judy! 😒
@@Scoobytopia With the release of Saban Moon in the last 24 hours, it's brought to light how many things are stored at the Library of Congress archives. It's a long stretch but if they didn't trash the recordings, maybe they were stored there which would then mean....we'd still have to ask Universal and/or Warner for permission. Darn it.
Yeah, in this case it's Universal. And when the movie got released on Blu-ray earlier this year, it wasn't even them that released it, but instead Kino who licensed it from them. And the print they received from Universal was the same really trashy looking one that's decades old with no work done. That makes it sound like they probably really don't have any interest in the movie these days unfortunately.
This is why I love Rug Rats in Paris and Pokemon the first Movie, they didn't recast in favour of celebrities, they kept all the original voice actors. Imagine if Chas had been voiced by anyone other than Michael Bell in Rug Rats goes to Paris, it wouldn't be the same.
Good video, your work's impressive. I found this film in a bargain bin and bought it, mainly because of George and Mel. Aside from Waldo being stabbed in the back, I liked it. Amongst other things, its message was surprisingly progressive. In the interest of fairness, I too thought Tiffany's songs were good. Universal didn't have Andrea's ethics of not letting a person's voice sound bad. They should've had Tiffany just sing. I don't blame Andrea for having her credit removed. Anyhow, rest in peace, Janet. You'll always be daughter Judy to us.
I can understanding using the Singer as Judy's singing voice not voice actress being I was only 4 years old when this movie come out and as a kid I loved the Jetsons. Movies are known to use a different actor or a professional singer to sing songs in movies other then the voice actors as it does happen, but Tiffany didn't have a good acting now as I re-watch the movie as adult today. Songs were great and I love them, but that is what Tiffany should have bought in for to be Judy's singing voice.
Since we know Janet Waldo recorded all her voice overs before the Jetsons movie was released why can't we get a version with her voice dubbed back into the movie!? That would be a treat! 🤔🤨🙏🤷
honestly i liked the jetsons movie, i didn't hear about all the problems it had till i was much older. it would have been great to see the original cast back one last time, yet sadly we didn't get that. as for scoob, this maybe an unpopular opinion but i loved the movie. it was no masterpiece by any means, yet i had so much fun watching it. dick dastardly, muttley, captain cave man it was a blast. i felt like i was six years old again. same thing with the jetsons movie i thought it was a good movie and remember it fondly.
This whole situation reminds me a lot of Lupin the Third and the Fuma Conpiracy. For those who don't know, Lupin III is similar to Scooby Doo, being a series that has been on going for over 50 years. When TMS was making a 20th anniversary OVA in 1987, they spent a lot of money on the animation that they couldn't afford the regular cast and the series composer, Yuji Ohno. They replaced them with a new cast without asking the actors permission, only talking to the og Mangaka, Monkey Punch, who wasn't for the decision, but didn't feel like it was his place to stop it. This lead to the new actors and TMS getting hate mail from fans, and the old voice actor for Lupin, Yasuo Yamada, having a falling out with Monkey Punch, which seemingly wouldn't be repaired before Yamada's death in 1995. So the special has become a bit of a black sheep in the Japanese Lupin fandom. One upside to this was that Lupin's Fuma Actor, Toshio Furukawa, was brought back to the Lupin Franchise to voice Lupin the Second (aka Lupin's Dad) in Lupin Zero and it seems that some fans today appreciate his role in Fuma Conspiracy.
To be fair, I really didn't seem to bothered by Tiffany voicing Judy in the film, same with Zac Afron (as Fred), Will Forte (as Shaggy), Gina Rodriguez (as Velma) and Amanda Seyfried (as Daphne) in SCOOB!, and at least Frank Welker still agreed to voice Scooby-Doo in the film.
@@Missourifangirl7789 Yeah. We really shouldn't be making a big deal over various Cartoon Characters (Scooby-Doo and The Jetsons included) having several people voicing them over the years, depending on what TV Show or Movie they're working on, and that includes various Jim Henson Muppet characters, too.
If the current, or original cast member declined to return to their role is one thing but when the studios decide to recast the characters that's part of the problem. Especially if they put in a bad performance. If they did a good job then it's disappointing that the current or original performer couldn't do it then that's fine and all and I would be more forgiving in that regard.
I first saw Jetsons: The Movie a few years ago as an adult and I didn’t think it was that bad. I have watched the series since I was a kid so I was familiar with the characters and show.
I know This Jetsons movie is just an autopilot mess with a buttload of studio interference, but the production behind the scenes was doomed from the start, I kinda feel bad for Tiffany voicing Judy and she sounded like she’s bored and doesn’t want to be funny. Even Yogi Bear 2010 (I don’t know if that counts cause that’s a live action/cgi hybrid) Justin Timberlake=Boo Boo (he did a fine Boo Boo impression) Dan Aykroyd=Yogi Bear (He Kinda sucked as the major icon and its a terrible mistake and he sounded bored maybe it was the awful autopilot writing that was unfunny, and paled in comparison to daws butler’s original yogi bear performance)
Omg how ever you look at it booting Janette just so they can have a few stupid songs is wrong, I do remember watching this movie when they where doing a marathon thing for the show when I was a kid but had no idea how dark it really was
The thing that ruins Jetsons: The Movie the most would have to be the fact that (besides the father of her and Elroy being, as AniMat put it best, a lazy selfish idiot because all he had to do was press a button despite the fact that he never did) Judy Jetson herself would continuously whine about her crush which even women her age deserve better than this foul representation. That and it’s environmental message is just as preachy as in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest and Rio 2 (I guess Cloudy 2 and Ferngully 1 are tolerable, but as for Rio 2 and Ferngully 2 on the other hand).
What happened with Scoob! makes me appreciate 13 Ghosts, Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost. Vincent Price, Adrienne Barbeau, Mark Hamill, Tim Curry and Jane Wiedlin were actually perfect in their roles.
I never saw The Jetsons, nor the movie, but wow, terribly sorry to hear about all of the voice cast replaced, especially for Judy. Also am yet to see Scoob!, but I can understand about some not liking celebrities voice the characters. And wow, Grey DeLisle wanted celebrity voicing to be gone?
I don't think Grey Delisle is against celebrities doing v.o. work, per se, as long as they're well cast and do good work. What's she against is stunt casting or replacing someone because "they're not marketable."
This was my absolute favorite film as a kid, I didn't realize so many voice actors passed during this. But using big names to replace voice actors isn't just a film thing, it's definitely plagued the video game world too. Take Ronda Rousey for example as Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat...my god.
I hate studios trying to make a choice against what fans and the casts want. I mean look at what Netflix did to Peter Cullen and Frank Welker when they wanted to voice in Netflix's Transformers shows. And how they were disrespectful to these veterans of voice acting. And we won't have them for longer if we don't appreciate them for now. While we have them. If this keeps happening. We won't have Optimus Prime or Megatron much longer. That's going to be a tragedy if we let that happen.
I didn't really watch the show, so I didn't even know it wasn't the same voice actress. I knew Tiffany did the singing voice, but I guess I didn't register that she also did the speaking voice. The Jetson's Movie was one of my favorites as a kid!
I'd like to say for your LGBT Velma video, by the final episode ending with HDW saying "that's my girl", I got it. That she was lsbin. At least HDW was if not Velma. As a teen too but still it was hard to understand if I was wrong because of her dating Shaggy and not showing the same affection to HDW back in a romantic way. But honestly all the characters in Mystery Incorporated were kind of annoying in the first season. Daphne's love obsession, Velma's annoying shaggy obsession, Scooby's jealousy, Fred's obliviousness, and Shaggy's cowardice. It's all realistic but still annoying. Also Mindy Cohn definitely voiced Velma in an animated movie too. Also Andres Romano casted some great things like batman TAS.
Ngl the reason I saw The Jetson's movie back in the day was cos Tiffany voiced Judy and sang some new songs in it. Obviously I prefer Janet, but since I was a Tiffany fan- the stunt casting worked on me lol
Honestly, most Cartoon Characters would have several people voicing them over the years! So I really don't see how this is still a BIG problem in the Animation business right now!
Because it was terrible for Universal Pictures to take all Janet Waldo’s recorded lines for the movie and threw it out the window and replace her with a pop star who didn’t have an experience in acting. And it shows how greedy the studio executives are to think that getting a pop star or celebrity will make people to buy a ticket for the movie and for it to be a box office hit, but the thing is that they don’t need big name celebrities to voice the characters just get professional voice actors and everything is fine.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 But it is terrible if you’re Janet Waldo who has already recorded lines for the movie and later for it to be thrown out and replaced someone and been told that “Oh, you just not that well known to people compared to that celebrity there” Do you really think it’s fair to do that to Janet Waldo???
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 But it is still a problem in Hollywood *today* Scoob!, The upcoming Super Mario movie, The upcoming Garfield reboot, DC League of Super Pets has fallen into this current problem
Patric Zimmerman wasn't a bad stand in for Elroy Jetson. It's a bit more nasally but it's definitely better than Tom Kenny and others who have voiced Elroy.
I have the film on VHS recorded from TV. Even as a child, I knew that Tiffany wasn't the right voice despite not knowing the names of the cast then. The worst part of the recast is that Janet Waldo didn't even know it happened until she saw the film for the first time at the premier. Mel Blanc and George O'Hanlon had fought against this executive decision but ultimately failed. Blanc was still recording lines from the hospital before he had passed. Waldo would still do voice work with HB afterwards most notably reprising her roles of Penelope Pitstop and Pearl Slaghoople from the Flintstones until 2000. This was also Penny Singleton's (Jane) final role as she retired from acting afterwards. I doubt a Waldo cut would be released due to potential issues of the rights since AFAIK Universal still holds the film rights to the IP as the film was on Peacock last year and removed earlier this year.
@Will N The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania at least had an excuse for not casting Waldo. She was most likely on her deathbed during production and had passed away once it was released.
I don’t care how bad people perceive this film, I still love it, and I still have my VHS copy and was happy to find it on DVD, it’s a really good film, and considering how it came out while Universal was having success with Back To The Future Part II added to the idea of the future, plus I love the soundtrack especially Tiffany’s songs. I’m still a fan of it.
Love the soundtrack even with the circumstances that surround it! Some real classic stuff for a movie that's pretty good, just stuck with a few unfortunate happenings behind the scenes.
I was uncomfortable with the Judy voice change when I was a kid, but LOVED the soundtrack. I still have the cassette to this day. I hadn't known O'Hanlon had passed until I saw the credits. I thought the memorial appears during the pretty opening notes of (a decent cover) "With You All the Way"
That's the problem with animated movies based on an animated property, isn't it? The films constantly need star power in their corner, otherwise why bother paying to see something you can see at home for free. So they're usually stuck with two options, either give the characters a celebrity voice recast or have a bunch of characters voiced by celebrities that were invented just for the movie and are never EVER mentioned or seen again. Even in Japan where movies based on concurrent television anime are more mainstream, they always manage to pop in some big time comedian guest star, sometimes as a completely shoehorned in cameo. Not saying there aren't some exceptions here and there. Transformers did use characters from the movie, but recast them with cheaper, standard voice actors. Bob's Burgers already had celebrity comedian voice actors, and everyone in the cast was a regular or recurring cast member. Even had to recast a Bill Hader character. The Simpsons already was celebrity cameo fodder, and other than a couple high profile cameos (some were actually cut), even the villain was voiced by a recurring guest star. South Park basically sold itself as an uncensored version to the point it was in the title. The Jetsons had that 80's revival series back then, and it was still being rerun when the movie was coming out. I don't see why they couldn't just do the cheap thing and make the new characters for the movie celeb voiced.
