My uncle got attacked by a swarm of African killer bees or something (I don’t remember exactly, it happened 15 years ago). They went after him hard; even when he got in his truck the swarm followed him and managed to get in the air vents. Ambulance managed to meet him and rush him to the hospital where he eventually recovered but with a new fear and deadly bee allergy. That Christmas I gave him a copy of The Bee Movie.

With the first video, i totally commend the woman for staying so calm and keeping a cool head (rolling with the animal and wrapping her legs). But what I also find really impressive is that the guy who helped her was just a random dad who was there! What a hero. I watched a follow up video and apparently they are now friends. Definitely time for the zoo to review their policy on letting staff work with animals alone, though, as the dad should have had to be the one to help.

Fun fact! Recent studies have shown that lions actually have a bite force closer to 1000 psi. The study that concluded it to be around 600 psi was by national geographic and was recorded in 2005 from a subadult (2-3 year old) male lion, even then the bite force recorded was just under 700psi (don’t know why it was bumped down to 600 but yeah). Their bite force has been looked at in several studies since, and looked at various fully grown males, and it’s shown that they have a considerably higher bite force than is widely known.

If someone kept me in a tiny aquarium, I'd bite them, too. That can't be a proper home for a snake of that size. To me, it seems cruel to keep snakes in that type of enclosure.
@idiotically-everything
@idiotically-everything 6 месяцев назад
Yeah. That snake seems to be a boa to me, they should have a minimum of 13ft long terrarium, preferably bigger because they're curious and active. The snake didn't do it to be malicious. Chances are the only enrichment it gets is food and the body language of the snake clearly indicates a food response. She had a snake hook and should have used it to gently move the head of the snake away from her and tap the snake gently with the hook because most big snakes are tap trained, meaning when they get gently tapped with the round part of the hook they know they're about to be picked up. The only thing this woman did right was have another person around when handling a snake longer than 6ft

I don't think there is a need to keep any type of constrictor snake in an enclosure, except for research. Now venomous snakes are different. Keeping them to milk their venom is important and necessary. With time a synthetic venom will be invented, it possibly has been already. Then keeping those snakes may also be unnecessary.

And it was very obvious from the snake’s behaviour that it was not happy about being disturbed. Further, the best way to get the python to let go (especially easy when the bite is on a hand, even with a big python) is to use a big bowl of water to submerge the head. The snake will let go without breaking teeth, or getting angrier. No broken teeth means no potentially lethal infection for animal. Pythons can be awesome companion animals; but like any other animal, they need respect, awareness of their needs, and alertness to their behavioural signals.

As a fellow Australian I have a mad respect for reptiles. If I see one, non-venomous of course, in a dangerous place like a road or driveway I'll relocate it to a safer spot. If I see a venomous one, I'll give it a nod and walk the other way, let the neighbours know to be careful and it'll usually sort itself out and go back to the bush. Crocodiles on the other hand I think I'd have a heart attack if I saw one near me 😂😂😂 they have been around so long and know way too much for me to do any business with them. Alligators I'm fine with for some weird reason.

the second one is bad keeping. You can see in the backround rodent racks. This snake is kept with it's food. It's also not warning biting it's having a food respond. Many of the big pythons are gluttions and have a bit appetite and it's common for them to come expecting food. What you are supposed to do is use a barrier like a lid to stop them from biting you and give them a few minutes to realise food isn't happening and they calm down. The snake was already hyper fixated and clearly interested in food and she went in and touched it. Also the enclosure does not look big enough for a snake that size. Might be wrong since I can't see it all tho.

I wonder what the alligator would have done if the keeper tried to poke its eyes out. I'm not saying I would have had the clear mind to do it, just merely wondering if they care more for their eyesight than their bellies.

I saw a diff video on the lady with the alligator and she said she realised once it had hold of her she knew she had to jump in the pool and go with the roll so she didn't just have her arm ripped off. 😳

The people with the python had no business having one. They were trying to pry it off with a snake hook? A little vodka or mouthwash will often get it to stop biting and open it's mouth, and you have to work on unwinding it with your hands. You never handle a big snake alone. She was lucky there.

Not just that but she had a rat rack in the same room. Also, any snake would be grumpy with stuck dry shed and kept in a tiny empty enclosure with no way to really move.

I've never had or worked with snakes so I'm not sure if it's true but I heard that putting really cold water on them or spraying them with vinegar can get them to release.

I wish there were some clarification that the python was not actually attempting to eat the woman, it can't, it was obviously hungry and it's possible the woman had been handling its food or the food was in the room causing confusion for the animal. Pythons get a bad rep and saying it was actively trying to kill her hurts their reputation even more.

Just remember that whenever someone says that an animal is "mean" or "vicious", on closer inspection you'll see that 99.9999% of the time it was due to HUMAN ERROR.
