This is a nonsensical strategy as exports account for only 8% of total China GDP. The rest of the economy has moved into services. Tariffing goods will make China diversify into services more... And that takes business away from US firms. The irony of it all!

Actually, a significant portion of the parts used by Apple are made in the USA. This includes everything from semiconductors to adhesives. Until recently, some computer models were actually assembled in Texas but they moved that to China because the new tariffs made it too expensive to import parts.

Thats because they do most of the world's low skilled manufacturing and assembling. Even companies in Mexico, Africa, South America and Eastern Europe import most of their stuff from China. I personally knew a twentysomething Nigerian man who said his dad got rich by creating a company that imported goods from China to Nigeria. Even here in Canada most of the stuff is made and imported from China. My country' economy runs mostly on farming, fishing, resource extraction, science research and limited high end manufacturing. Here in Canada we get most of our stuff from China.
