My best friend is Hindu, she greets my parents with proper salaam and I greet her parents with namastey, Including this, we say Jai shree ram, radhe radhe, etc based upon the person in front of us, as India has huge diversity we have to learn to respond and respect for every culture, Also, Salam one of the most important thing which I think we see in Muslim households in India , Every one meet with salaam, and the good fact is , it is considered as authoritative and more honored when you greet someone with Salam. People who are "hating" on Mahira saying "I'm from Pakistan", my thinking is that she's implying that as Pakistan is a majority Muslim country she should have greeted him with a Salaam, it's fine for her to have gone the neutral route, why not, SRK is her senior and she just kept it professional... Her not saying Salaam doesn't make her wrong, she just thought that saying Salaam may have been awkward, so rather than say Namaste or Salaam she went with an English greeting which is fine...

It is a must for any muslim to say Assalamu alaykum to another muslim. and expect a reply from him. I am an Indian but still if I see a Pakistani i will salam him. I too have ansisteral family roots in Pakistan. My eldest cousin captain Haneefudeen attained shahadat by fighting against Pakistan in Kargil he was a captain in Indian Army- Rajputana Rifles- Since then I do not like Pakistan. But that is another fact. when i see a Pakistani Muslim i will salam him. There is no Geographical or national interests in it. .

So it is really common, but you people have many confusion about our, language,tradion as holy dewali lohrdi, we we celebrate and give the sweet to them and they sawaian kheer recipe to us in IED Mubarak,we called them in our marriage function.
