When you read the books and realize that this was one of the few recorded times that Chief felt legit fear and terror.

One of my favorite levels in video game history. The parts of the environment that tells you shit is not right, that something really bad happened here. The Marine gone crazy, shooting at anything that moves. The rooms and hallways covered in blood and discarded weapons, but few bodies. The fucking music as you run through this eerie complex with far less resistance than you'd expect. It's such a perfect introduction to the Flood.

When Halo went from a shooter to straight up horror

I just played this level again and EVERY SINGLE TIME the whole scene right before their appearance gets me...even walking through the level itself...you KNOW something is off by the lack of enemies and it's so quiet...the tone set was just PERFECT.

i read somewhere that the first time the chief encountered the flood he shot rounds without wanting to, imagine this a veteran soldier who is in control of his body fired shots in surprise and fear for the first time in his life

Its at this moment Halo 1 turned into a survival horror game halfway through!

I recently replayed this level, and the Flood are already creepy enough, but the scariest part is the number of times I got lost in the maze lol.

Remember not being able to pass this level cuz it was so scary to me when i was a kid, so when imagine when i had enough balls to complete it when i got little bit older just to find out the game will be all flood from here

I feel bad for anyone who played this after already knowing what the flood is. Playing this for the first time on the first Xbox not knowing why I wasn't seeing Covies, but saw their blood everywhere and couldn't find any marines except the one who tried to shoot me. This happening in a game today would be like of MW3 went from campaign to a mission like a dead space level with no warning, it was so surprising I was actual kind of afraid to finish the level as a kid.

This scene from Halo where Chief meets the Flood reminds me of Pandora's Box. Captain Keyes along with his marines basically opened Halo's pandora's box by allowing the Flood to be freed from their inprisonment.

I remember going through this level again and being hit with memories of playing alongside my brother The same growing dread of something not being right in the facility

This scared the shit out of me when I was 15 😂

I used to have a very deep seeded phobia of the Xenomorph aliens. I used to start shaking uncontrollably when I tried to watch Aliens, especially the part when the Colonial Marines entered the hive. This level and the one after, brought out that old fear in me. I couldn't play this level again for a long time until I had someone Co-op with me to finally beat the game.

i remember years ago i saw someone asking a very interesting question in one of the Halo CE gameplay videos with the meeting with the Flood. but i can't remember in which exact video this was. so i will try to retake his question, here: We are in the future (2552) , why the UNSC would still use pump-action shotguns instead of the ones in Semi or even fully auto? i know for gameplay purpose, these kind of shotgun wouldn't be as satisfying as pump-action ones (and also overpowered) but is there any practical and realistic reason the UNSC would use a seemingly outdated design for their shotguns?

Such an iconic moment when you first encounter them. Such a build up of tension. Still my favourite game ever.

First time I played this and noticed the grunts & jackals running I was wondering where the elites were.

I played the Master Chief Collection and started with Halo Reach first thinking Halo would be a pretty simple story. Good soldiers from earth vs evil aliens from outer space. Simple, but a good concept still. When I finished Reach and moved on to Combat Evolved, you will not believe the jumpscare I got when I first saw the large wave of flood monsters combined with that horror music and just simply the horrifying design of the parasite. It's like the game went from a nice, simple, and fun action shooting game to a scary, terrifying, and nightmare inducing horror survival game. I literally got goosebumps and felt crawling in my skin when I saw those flood parasites just crawling all over the floor and falling from the ceiling. It was horrible. Everytime I see flood I think to myself "I didn't want any of this! All I wanted was to just fight aliens, shoot cool guns, and save the world/galaxy the good old fashioned way! Not deal with a mutant zombie parasite and survive/prevent an apocalypse!"

its just not tithout the original graphics and how both human and covanant blood smeared and splattered all over the walls of that mission but they ruined it in the remaster
