Next challenge: *Make a video without Microsoft Windows* All the software he listed at the end is also available for Mac. No Linux native versions as far as I can tell - but maybe someone can figure workarounds with Wine and what not. Anyways, what I am trying to say is the OS is the most crucial part to decouple from Microsoft.
Mmm inspiring. Approaching our two year anniversary of changing our entire post workflow to DaVinci Resolve. It’s been wonderful. For anyone on the fence- join us. -Niko

Enshittification is horrible; a complete disrespect not only of the user, but of the legacy of computing in general. Computers are these extraordinary machines that have the power to save humanity, and yet the monsters in power use them for oppression rather than empowerment. It's evil. But this is why open source is so important. Open source software has the potential to resist enshittification because it can be forked.
This is why I switched to Linux years ago... I knew this was going to happen at some point, I thought it would happen sooner with Windows 10, but it just took longer then I expected... Now I've been on Linux so long, that I've became a developer as a natural consequence of the Ecosystem. Why would I use One Drive when I have a bash script that does the same thing but better because I wrote it myself?
@@JohnnyThund3rI would have switched to Linux years ago too, If there would be open source alternatives to the software I use everyday, But there just aren't yet. 😢 For the typical user who doesn't really use much stuff maybe, but a lot of people who do graphic design for work, or a lot of niche programs that don't have anything _but_ windows versions it gets really frustrating
@@JohnnyThund3r I only switched to Nobara Project Linux once the Steam Deck came out and showed me 95% of my games work, and frankly for the other 5% it's because of kernel level anticheat which these days I hold the same disdain for as James Lee does for adobe products, so I kinda hacked those off like an infected limb and I feel much better for doing so. Davinci Resolve works, Krita works, Libreoffice works, Steam and Heroic Games Launcher works, and a lot of the other stuff outside of that I use works in Bottles. I'm good. While it's an imperfect experience, I'm much happier since switching. A shame that while I'm happy about it and have no intention of using Windows 11 or any windows after that ever again, for a lot of people it's still in a chicken and egg situation in regards to program support and the learning curve does not help.
welp, they wasted their lives enslaving themselves in a stupid desire for money and power, completely forgetting what's truly beautifull. They never truly won the game of life
Ah yes, OneDrive, the software that takes the shortcuts from my desktop and moves them to my laptop without any actual programs to link to, breaking the links to the actual programs on my laptop.
I had a laptop where onedrive was so integrated to the point it screwed up the whole computer trying to remove it. I ended up returning it and getting a mac instead.
@@sanekibeko the same thing happened to me. I installed windows without internet so it had what windows was calling a "local account." one day I logged into my microsoft account in the settings app and with onedrive + my microsoft cloud account + my local account everything on my computer was bricked- file permissions destroyed, i didnt know where anything was. I just had copy my photos and documents to a usb and reinstall.
@4Curses yeah Keep in mind they make it nigh impossible to set up your computer with a local account unless you have windows professional (and that most off the shelf computers come with home edition).
I may have uttered a few racial insults to the wonderful cheapest hire employees microsoft has gotten in the past 10 years over my files getting sent to narnia
I like how it keeps showing some random nude I put in there on the front page every couple of months after repeatedly telling it to not fucking do that.
I literally didnt even interact with onedrive in a work manner, yet some how it added a section of my documents folder to itself and then bricked itself when I downloaded a 10gb mod off moddb. It then ate a chunk of my documents folder, a ton of old pictures, and forced me to recompile junk for a lot of my games. More so when I deleted it Thanks onedrive, very cool.
The man tells us "No Adobe products used", then gives us the alternatives that he uses. Next level pettiness. I'm here for it. Recently quit my Adobe habit, we'll see how it goes.
0:58 Does anyone relate with "Finish setting up your pc" coming out of nowhere every time and demanding you "Finish setting up your pc" ? I thought I was crazy and my system was corrupted, they're doing that on purpose?
@@Dannnneh well shit guess my phone is half filled with malware cuz of all that shit that comes with it when u buy one and THEY DONT LET YOU DELETE IT RAAAA
@@doggosuki My phone occasionally self-installs shit games without even telling me! I don't even play phone games! "Your phone's running low on storage! Better delete some stuff!" No Shit, Sherlock! You're doing this to yourself you bastard!
I remember once a long time ago, I bought Final Fantasy 14 through the website since it was on sale. I then struggled for hours trying to get it to actually download, all because One Drive kept telling me that it didn’t have enough space to store the file.
I made the mortal mistake of interacting with OneDrive once. What I assumed was a backup was actually a quantum-linked copy or something, so deleting them to free space actually just wiped my entire documents folder instead. Thanks Microsoft, go eat my entire ass.
I actually use OneDrive quite a lot to transfer files between devices, but I made the mistake of backing up my desktop contents before and now it's permanently fucked even after I unlinked it
Ditto. I saw it was on a OneDrive folder, saw it was taking up space in my drive, next minute, bang, everything from my Docs folder is gone. Thanks Windows.
Yeeesssss. Thank you for showing a bit of behind the scenes for this. It really is time to make a stand and cut things off before they get even worse. It won't be an easy move, or even smooth, but it's worth it to cut reliance on crapware.
"good" as in bad, right? As in, it's bad that we have to come all this way just because a few greedy corporations can't help themselves wanting (forcing) the line to go constantly up? Hence therefore, this bad resulted in something good like being more aware of it while giving it a description known as Enshittification?
@@MustraOrdo bro you went too deep down the rabbit hole. “Hence therefore” bro you’ve literally lost your mind. Enshittification is simply a good word that should be added to all of our vocabularies.
@@hiddenlawyeri think we need to do more than donate to the EFF at this point. It's time to spread the EFF around, and get as much people to understand their cause as we can - especially when people might be more open to it than ever (hopefully)
@@arjix8738 I heard we have to use the debloat after every update and most, like me, would rather try to keep the bloatware inert and easily ignorable instead of debloating every update. I only bothered with disabling one drive because it kept telling me it was doing things I never wanted and I had no idea what the chances were it did something very unwanted.
no onedrive, i dont want to save my files in the cloud, i want to save MY arquives in MY computer! NO! I DONT WANT TO BUY MORE SPACE! (idk why is it so hard to them to understand)
I miss early 2010s internet (and entertainment in general), everything was fine up until then. inb4 "you're just being nostalgic, everything back then was worse than now" (and their example of things being "worse" is people getting away with making edgy jokes, the horror!)
DAVINCI RESOLVE YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I salute you for your contribution. Knowing that all of these tools can make great things like this has to be a world changer for some people!
Yay! Welcome in the Da Vinci Club. Looking forward seeing you on the "We shit on Adobe"-meeting next friday. We even have snacks since we can afford them.
My love for Linux comes from my hate for Microsoft. I hate how Windows has turned into shit. This video represents my feelings towards these manipulative, disgusting companies perfectly.
He's a hop skip and a jump away from using Linux. DeVinci has native Linux support, and Affinity Photo can be run via Wine. Not going to say Linux is easier (it isn't) but with how much crap Microsoft is pulling these days, I would not be surprised if Linux is overall, less of a headache now then Windows is.
no joke attemped to remove my entire onedrive like a week or two ago, turns out your desktop is directly routed through onedrive, causing my entire desktop to be erased.
So FUCKING GLAD I'm not the ONLY ONE DEALING WITH THIS SHITTTT!!!! AAAAUUUUUUGHHHHHH!!!! LET THE SEAS BOIL, LET THE STARS FALL, LET THE GALAXY BURN!!!!!!
bro i had that happen with one drive and i lost everything on my pc pretty much, all my game saves and mods, photos ext... or so i thought. turns out one drive hid everything away in a file you can only get to with the help of software that can get ALL your files out for you to explore and mess with, but even then i couldn't move them back out to where they can be used and if i did they'd become corrupted... also i never asked one drive to do anything, it just turned on out of nowhere and messed everything up. rip my modded fallout 4 playthrough, you will be missed o7
I applaud you. For not only using anything but those main apps. But also show which alternatives you've used and broughts them to day light. There are many alternatives out there that just arent getting the attention they should GET and DESERVE !!
yep that stuff gotten worse and worse.... there are new rules being passed to stop companies from doing that but its what happens when u get a monopoly going
I work full time as a digital creative and I've been playing with the thought of giving Adobe the longest middle finger for years. Thanks for trying to inspire people, cause I sure as hell feel inspired right now (the list of alternatives helped)!
Good on you, mate. You didn't just complain and point out the already blaton corporate atrocities that Adobe has been responsible for, anyone can do that, but you gave examples of better alternative programs. Pretty cool
When the CEO got their job due to nepotism and get their college graduate by paying the nerds and the only experience they have is browsing those sites with unstoppable popup ads (which is where they got their inspiration from).
James Lee: No Adobe software was used in the making of this video. Substance suite users: That's nice. Wonderful. happy for you. I'm not angry you're angry.
@@MyouKyuubi Not sure why you would say that, aside from Photoshop, what's missing? DeVinci has native Linux support and Affinity Photo works via wine. We also have Blender and Maya... and Blender renders faster on Linux then on Windows.
@@JohnnyThund3r Wayland, the display driver that all of this is supposed to run in, is unfinished, buggy, and unreliable... That's the biggest issue... yes these programs are made to work on Linux, and run better on Linux, than on windows i have no doubt... but x11 is too old, and wayland is unfinished and buggy, so... And also, nvidia drivers don't really agree with the programs, either... etc etc... All of these issues cause problems in workflow, due to their unstable nature, relating to the video-heavy nature of these programs... They inherently rely on video drivers to function properly. Audio drivers on Linux are ALSO quite unreliable, the bare minimum they're able to do, in most cases, is display sound from sources, if you try to edit audio in video editors, you often experience issues with audio too, heck, even EQ software for personal use tends to be rather hit or miss. Heck, i run Nobara, which is a Linux distro directed at gamers and content creators (youtubers, for example), and it comes with a video editing software called "Kdenlive"... Wanna know what happened when i first tried to start that program up, out of sheer curiosity? Entire computer froze, i had to force the computer off by holding the power button... Wanna know WHY starting that software froze my computer? Because i was listening to music with Audacious (Winamp, for Linux, basically) when i tried opening it. :P Soo... yeah! Linux is still, not quite there yet for creatives/artists, still lots of stuff to work out before it's ready... I'd estimate somewhere between 1-5 years until it's ready for them.
