Gelfond tells a story where he noticed a leak in a certain game (some specific poker variation) in Ivey’s game, and challenged him to a match, which Ivey accepted, and was able to exploit the leak for a little bit, but remarked he was amazed at how quickly Ivey was able to adjust and, on the fly, plug the leak.
@labrinth999
@labrinth999 5 месяцев назад
I'm fairly new to poker, what do you mean when you talk about a 'leak'?
@TheFlopFactor
@TheFlopFactor 5 месяцев назад
@labrinth999 leak means weakness or repetitive mistakes being made in someone’s poker gameplay
@wesleykim1758
@wesleykim1758 4 месяца назад
@@labrinth999To add on to the previous explanation, a leak may mean you are only losing 1% to 2% of value, but with winning edges in the game being so small, especially at higher stakes, losing that much value could be the difference between being a winning player or a losing player. To give you an idea, someone considered really good at poker can make around 10 Big Blinds per hour whereas an average winning player may only make 2 to 5 Big Blinds per hour. Meaning if you aren't amazing at the game and you are bleeding 1 to 3 Big Blinds per hour because your play has leaks, you are losing a lot of profit and could actually be a losing player
@WhatAreYouNew

1:39 Mike saying "I forgot what I have" means he can't remember if he has a club or not surely. So Phil knows Mike doesn't have a full house, because a club would be irrelevant. Phil knows nobody is going to forget a pocket pair, so decides to rep the full house himself... my take on Phil's read.

2nd hand: This pot was won when D.Benny said something about Ivey hitting the 5d. At that point if you're Ivey you have to seem disappointed that you're not going to get paid when he says that. That hand against Benyamine with the trips vs flush was kinda of crazy. The only thing that Ivey could have based on the way it played out that could beat Benyamine was AK with ace of diamonds or pockets 2’s. I mean it’s possible but very rare it could have been pocket 4’s, but I doubt Ivey would have bet out on the flop with 4’s with that many players in the hand. So it was AK or 22. So I’m very surprised Benyamine folded.

@tailorknine5046

When Phil asks him how much he has, its specifically to get a physical tell based on how he answers, because in tourney they must tell you roughly. Every experienced player knows that is the only reason they are asked that question. Obviously Phil know roughly how much he has, so that's not the reason for asking. It's not hard to deduce how much the player has, its heads up, that easy to track for guys like Phil Ivey who is obviously a genious.

If he was worried about Ivey having an ace, he should have checked the river and then just called Ivey’s bet. But that’s the thing about Ivey. He can get a read on you and probably put Mike exactly on either QQ with Q clubs or possibly his exact hand (remember preflop action). That kind of opponent is dangerous because they can sometimes have the goods but sometimes not and it makes players hesitant to call.

I think the logic on that last hand is "after he 4bets me on this flop without going all in, he's just trying to buy the pot. In the last hand, now I'm no poker pro, but, didnt it seem weird that Jackson's final reraise was so much less Ivey's reraise before him? That alone looks transparently weak to me. Like, just go all in. Almost suspicious, but i guess not.

Ivey was playing Ben the whole time. Patrick's fold was predictable after Ivey and Ben called him after the turn (both knew he had a king) . Ivey has never been known to play chips methodically like Dwan or other pros. It's actually one of the mechanics that he's always been recognized for being hard to read on body language. Even Negreanu has stated this. What makes that hand legendary is how Ivey uses his position to represent different hands to both players.
