No I don’t think it was successful if the scale is 1 to Kardashian. I despise Kardashians and Jenners but I can’t pretend they didn’t make an impact on the culture. Kardashians have always known who they are and have capitalized on it, the D’Amelio brand is so random. They simply don’t know who they are so they just thrive on cash grabs. Sadly in 2 years no one will care who they are.

Kardashians became famous before social media. The only way we could see into their lives was by watching their show. Now everyone posts everything on TikTok. There’s no need to watch a show.

I remember kinda enjoying the show when it felt like this obscure thing that you saw in secret cause it was cringe to admit it. The thing with Charlie damelio is the girl got famous for dancing and clearly likes to dance and that’s mostly what she comfortable doing so why is her team having her do everything and come out with everything that doesn’t cater to what she does girl could literally make herself known in the dance world she can be a backup dancer for somone she could be a judge on a dance show she could have products that cater to dancers like dance clothing and shoes but it’s like the rest of her family wanna leech off so they just have her doing everything so they can benefit

If she just focused on a clothing brand with active wear and actually put effort into it then she would actually have something to her name in ten years. The issue isn’t exactly the relevancy to her, I think it’s just that it shows when they aren’t passionate about a brand

Pretty privilege is so ingrained in society we don't even realise what's happening so we end up asking questions like 'why are these people famous?' when we were the ones that gave them that fame in the first place 🤦 Edit: I realise this isn't everyone but it's still a lot of people who are the ones liking and sharing these videos and honestly it's reassuring that not everyone just likes/shares because of someone's face so we was more of a majority (sorry for any confusion)

I can say that Charli did what was right regarding the skincare line. In the reality TV show, Charli mentioned how she tried it on her skin and was breaking out, so she didn't want to be this fraud. One thing I can say was she, for once didn't listen to her PR for a cash grab. The music thing between the sisters was dumb because she made one song and left it just another cash-grab thing for her, while Dixie actually took it seriously.

As someone who lost like 50 pounds (but is still considered overweight, however it’s distributed in a flattering way, so some people don’t realize) and started learning how to carry myself better, pretty privilege is really gross at its core lol I’ve seen how people treat me better just from losing some weight, and it’s discouraging. Granted, I’ve done a lot of self-work, so that could also be attracting people to me more, but it’s clear that I get more opportunities than I used to, even if they’re much smaller in scale than this. I don’t blame people for utilizing every advantage, besides it’s the fault of others for making it an advantage (if that makes sense). But even when you’re pretty, you have to be somewhat interesting because there will always be someone prettier, or the idea of pretty will change completely.

That's not pretty privilege, that's just marketing. They know young and pretty sells and they used the literal teenagers to sell things, that's all. Children and teenagers should never be included in such big businesses, they are too fragile emotionally and mentally. Hate me for saying that but that's the fact. Those business saw the opportunity to sell and took it. They did not care about these sisters, they just used them as marketing does. It was not pretty privilege that failed them it was a string of bad decisions. Maybe kids should just stay kids, as long as they can.

She failed in the sense that her family desperately wanted to become like the Kardashians, but she's still successful and wealthy in her own right. This family was clearly already well off before her rise to fame, so there's a lack of an "underdog" story that most fans crave, but she's still relatable to young girls from similar backgrounds. Rising to fame through an app, seemingly overnight, is the new "American Dream" and makes fame seem easier to obtain to the average person compared to how it was even just 10 years ago. Internet celebrities 10 years ago were NOT the same as they are now.

With the amount of money they've accumulated, they can just have a solid wealth management company build their wealth annually and live off of that. They can easily do basically whatever they want now if they limit their lifestyle to upper middle class instead of needing to live like the top 1%. And then it spiraled and now all of the sudden you’re a teenage girl, who we all should know people love to criticize the most, who had millions of people watching you and judging you. I cannot imagine how hard that is and although they obviously have had perks to being famous, judging by how Charlie is slurring her words at 6:49 (among countless other examples I may list later), she is not doing well. They need to have people around them that will keep them grounded and find a balance of things and obviously they don’t have that. This particularly applies to sexualization by others, where young women who are considered attractive earlier are much more likely to have their self-worth attached to their appearance, are frequent targets of sexism and unwanted sexual advances from a young age, and struggle to develop a robust sense of identity and self-worth. We (society) also foist upon women the expectation to chase beauty through expensive procedures, products, routines, and then conversely label it a "privilege" that opens them up to critique. While I'm not a Kardashian fan--some members of the family have experienced life-long shaming and abuse for their looks, only to experience more shaming when they conform to beauty standards. While beauty can help incite fame, it guarantees little in the way of lasting success.

What's really sad is how this video repeatedly tries to make it sound like the Kardashians have somehow made great and meaningful contributions of value to the world. Rather than being honest and reflecting the fact they took the exact same route that they are criticizing the d'amelio's of having taken. The Kardashians weren't poor! They lived quite lavishly, and had just as many ridiculous "business" endeavors that went by the wayside due to lack of interest, no practicality, or lack of knowledge and interest by the Kardashian promoting the widely useless, over priced, gimick product they presumed was going to be popular simply because it had their name on it. It's sad that people think fame is worthy of idolizing someone for, and that it somehow makes them heros.

Omg!!! This was so good! I love all the points you touched on as well as the suggestions you made. I was just thinking "why didn't either of them take the modeling route after the Morphe wave? It would've worked" but I think this was really insightful, especially the part about the outward appearance only carrying so fare without real work and integrity.

Being conventionally attractive is definitely a part of this-along with being skinny but we can’t discount wealth. They may have not been super rich, but they were clearly comfortable enough to be 17 and not have to work. A lot of folks I grew up with were breaking their butts at that age to get even a little bit of money to help themselves or their families. On top of that, the family had to have money to put their kids into dance programs. Dance recitals, clothes, shoes, etc are not cheap for a “hobby”.

Heres what I dont get: Who cares about these people other than children? I dont know any of the people, except the few that I hear other people mention. I remember being 13 and idolizing Rock stars like Slash, but I didnt try to act like him. Regardless around 17 or 18 I had outgrown that phase of putting posters on my wall. I dont follow any guys. How is it that some adults, almost exclusively women, still idolize these pop stars and try to emulate them by buying their product line? "Oh I love Kim K. I want to go get her new coffee brand." This is insanity. Social Media platforms are stupifying this nation and reverting adults back to middle-school antics of idolizing and emulating the popular kids.

I don't know the Damelios that much, except for the fact that they are rich, and the sisters are really young. At 20, I didn't know what to do with my life, even at 24, I'm just finding out, and still confuse. Seeing how young they are, how their success was overnight, and (mostly) how their parents are treating them like cash cows rather than guiding them to make something good of their fame, I am NOT surprised to see how that turned out

The Kardashians are actually funny too. Somehow even though they don't try to be relatable, they still ARE due to the emotional side. Mental health, body image, raising kids, marital issues, and of course all the complexities of extended families. They haven't been around for over 20 years for nothing! 😊

Charli literally should have used her fame to catapult her dance because it's the only thing she's truly talented and passionate about. The rest of the family should have just stayed behind her and supported her. She could be a huge commercial dancer, going on tour and performing award shows, selling out dance conventions, commercial and fitness modeling, on camera dance, launching products related to what she loves- dance etc. I will say the Dunkin' Donut campaign did make sense and if social tourist was geared around athleisure it would have worked too lol. Dixie should have become a full-fledged runway and editorial model because she has a really great look and her figure is what the industry adores and she's not only good at it but somehow seems to enjoy it lol
