A $90 table cloth ? You can buy a full living room of used furniture for $60. Estate Sales sell better than store items, usually much cheaper, and you are helping out the family by buying the things they can't store or use any longer - since their loved one passed away. Now a Days - you can buy a full house full of all you need direct from E-Bay. All used, all saving money. Getting married should have a nice wedding, reception, honeymoon, and some starting out funds and gifts from family too. It's good to marry young if you feel it is right, and both people dedicate their love for each other and to the Lord. Whatever their faith or religion, every marriage is a 3 way deal, two people brought together by the Creator... What ever faith they share, they are committing for life, and to grow a new family, be it 1 child or a dozen... A life time of love, family, and caring for each other - everyone needs a family !

They're nice to have, but you can also save by going to the church or courthouse and getting a stripped down, bare bones ceremony with only the people you NEED/want present. The need for education is more and more desperately necessary. Survival is harder as costs keep rising. Depression in young people from the pressure of families and schools, is higher, and there is more and more cheating because the pressure of load and costs are so high. Which means less qualified people taking jobs they are unable to do properly. Do people in my age group deserve more respect, because the times we grew up in were different, and education not so necessary to earning a good living, and the costs of education so much cheaper? My older sister took a year off to work, back in the sixties, so that she could pay for her senior year at university. As a forty some year old, i could not finish college after divorce, because i had two teen agers to feed and house and an ex who punished me, by ignoring his duty to his children. I worked what ever jobs i could find, just to help us survive until they graduated from high school. Now a days people donate from birth onward to college funds, and that isn’t enough for lower income families to educate one child, let alone a second or third child. Student debt can be a life long debt that people pay for with their “estate” which may be a used car, or what ever they have left, and the right wing wants their children burdened with the debt that the last generation could not earn enough to pay, in effect, even death is no escape from the rising costs of living. Respect? Well, i think that something is about to give, frankly. People tend to rebel against the tyranny of the privileged who pay to hire the lawmakers who will pass laws that keep the wealthy empowered. It is well to remember our history. This nation fought a Revolution against the privileged who barred their freedom to vote for their representatives, among other things. It wasn’t the first time the repressed population rebelled, but what we gained was a new nation based on ethics, equality, and human freedom, the same things under attack by the right wing today. Let us hope we can regain those rights with our Constitutional votes. We may not be so lucky in the next revolution, and a whole lot more people exist now, which means a whole lot more will die in such a war. Personally, i would rather vote. At my age i would likely not survive a war, nor would my grandchildren.

My nephews always tell me: aunt, go with us to ___ site, but wear some makeup because with your glasses and braces you look like our age. I only have 7 years ahead and I'll be 29 this year. When I tell people I've been married for 4 years and we dated 8 years people jump and ask me if i met him on school or what haha. They sometimes miss my age for almost a decade, depending on how I'm dressed or my makeup that day but at least 5 years missed always. It's a plus.

The thing I try to remind myself is that a) the pandemic messed up our timelines (I, at least, was limiting social interaction for 2 years) and b) everyone moves at their own pace. There's people who get married at 18 and there's also people who only find their person when they're 60. I think it’s a double edged sword. I married my wonderful wife at 29 two years ago, she was 28. But here’s the thing, I can say I wish I married years earlier, but we grew up in different states and met each other by happenstance, and so we would never have met each other earlier. So for me saying I wish I married sooner is saying I wish I married someone else which is totally not true. But I get the point.

After being a child of parents who married early ( yes, they had jobs, were financialy independent), I promosed myself I'll never follow that road. And I was even lucky to be the third child. That's true! I hate this propaganda, it doesn't make any sense if you think about it. Yes, time influences societies values, but at the end of the day it depends on the person how they behave! Just because we live in the 21st century, doesn't mean all men suddenly help around the house. No, it depends on the couple how they structure their life and if you love somebody, you will help them.

@@princessmissy50 I have raised boys with the old values my parents raised me with. My oldest boy is 21 now. I was a stay at home mother and I think that the reason for the generation change is because both parents work now. They would rather have money to keep up with the Jones's than for one parent to stay home and make sure they're raised with values from our past generations. My boys open doors for women and children. They take their hats off at the table, and so on. This new generation doesn't go outside enough. Video games are our new care givers.

@@queenii once he gets his law degree he’ll be supporting her as a lawyer for the rest of their lives. She’s supporting them temporarily. He’s not a bum. They both agreed he would go to college full time and she would work since he won’t have time. Also, since they are married they most likely have a joint bank account so any money he saved up before college is in the account too. Regardless, it was a dumb purchase.

Yeah but then she’ll be expected to still do all the house work and keep up their entire domestic life and raise their kids it’s not like she isn’t doing anything. The really frustrating part is where he says I thought you were in this with me when she’s doing so much work trying to help them have a better life and he isn’t just not Helping or being considerate of her needs he’s actively working against her while she does things in incredibly difficult conditions

@@clare9621 they don’t currently have kids and their apartment is very small. She’s fine. And she agreed to this. He’s not having any fun either. He’s spends all his time studying and doesn’t get to go out and when he’s done with college he’ll be working until they die. Yeah one day they will have kids and she’ll have to clean the house while the children are young, but when they are old enough to clean they will help her. Either that, or they will have so much money from his being a lawyer that they can hire a cleaner and then she won’t have to do anything. What difficult conditions is she inexactly because I would gladly take her place. With or without him she would still be cleaning the house and working. And even after the argument he STILL apologized and even told her to keep the table cloth she wasted money on. I don’t see a problem here.

@@111SweetP and without him she would have the freedom to move on or maybe she’d be splitting rent with a roommate who was bringing home a paycheck or doing some chores. She doesn’t have to study, but she doesn’t get to go out because he doesn’t want to. Lots of people live alone and have full time jobs and go to school full time- he’s just studying. He could help her. Housework used to take a lot longer and be more labor intensive, it’s one of the reasons most adults were married even if they were unhappy, beyond the social pressure, a house couldn’t function without someone to split the work with. Clearly you’ve never had to do your laundry on a washboard in the kitchen sink and then hang in to dry in what looks like a studio while someone actively tore it down again. I’m not saying in the long run he’ll get off without doing anything but he certainly isn’t doing what he ought to be at the moment to be a good husband. His times might have absolved him but I won’t. Loving someone isn’t enough. Promising isn’t enough. Realizing that you have to give them this one because they’ve hit their breaking point and the door is right there isn’t enough. That’s more or less the point.

@@clare9621 he goes to college full time. If it was today, he could take online classes that are flexible with a job, but back then they didn’t have that. And the work and time invested was much higher. So no he wouldn’t be able to bring a good paycheck home every day at least not easily. Our generation live a very cushy life compared to them. Also, it’s just the two of them and they lived in a tiny house or apartment so no the the housework would not have been that bad. Even for the 1950s. She wouldn’t need to use the washboard every single day of the week. If anything she would need to cook and do dishes every day. But skipping a day wouldn’t make much difference. She can clean the kitchen as she goes so it’s not a big mess after dinner or cook something cheap and easy. Two people won’t make much mess for sweeping or mopping, bedding only needs to be washed weekly, they probably only have one bedroom since they don’t have any kids, etc. They loved each other and agreed to the arrangement they had. Are you saying that he should be doing more? Because studying for a law degree/homework/testing/not going out isn’t enough for him to be doing? He has to have a full time job too? Laundry and school are not the same thing even with a washboard and she doesn’t need to do every job in the house every day. And she was disappointed about not going to the party because she wanted him to come with her and he himself couldn’t make it. She was asking to be let out of her cage. It’s not that he doesn’t want to it’s that he CAN’T. She didn’t want to go alone. It’s not JUST studying. He’s in school. And she didn’t have to hang the wet laundry over his head like that. She was mad at him , tried to be petty and and he rightfully got angry about it. I’m tired of people treating women who get married in the fifties like they were forced to. Men and women didn’t have to get married and the social pressure argument is a cop out. If it was the other way around would you require her to have a job or should he work AND take care of her because she’s a woman? If she didn’t want to do this she didn’t have to. And they even made up. After all that he still apologized, so what’s the problem here??? It boils down to the double standard. Is a man is being supported by his wife/girlfriend even if it temporary, he’s a bum and a bad husband, but if he’s supporting his wife/girlfriend while she goes to school full time she’s an independent woman.
