New Sod Bermuda lawn for a home with very sandy soil this year. Sod is taking well. Laid down in Oct/nov last year. What should I do this season as far as maint. goes? Should I just mow/maintain this year or can I start the process of leveling and cutting short? First bermuda lawn always had a lush 4-5" Fescue.
@BudgetLawns

Nice. My preference is to just maintain it with the cultural practices in the first year. Mow it a lot, water it correctly and fertilize. I'm going into my third year on a new construction bermuda sod lawn and still, that's all I've done. I will be doing more this year though, like leveling. Just depends on what your expectations are and how quickly you want to move. I don't mind moving slow. Thanks for watching.

@@BudgetLawns that was my thought. Don’t stress it to much this year. Allow it to root really well then next season, game on!! Thank you. Love the videos.

Did 19 cubic yards of sandy loan last year and I still feel that leveling pain. Got tremendous results, but need to fine tune it with some sand this year. I’m not looking forward to it 😭

Solid info as always. I am still on the fence as to when I should sand level. Spring or Fall for my cool season grass. I am leaning towards Fall because it seems like our Falls are lasting longer than our Springs and it will give it more time to recover.
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 3 года назад
Thanks man. That's a tough call. Sounds like you're thinking the right way though with the fall if they've been lasting longer. It does turn from spring to summer pretty quickly lately. Appreciate ya as always bud.

What do you think about burning a lawn that you think has died off? Some may be afraid to till and hit irrigation, cable, etc.
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 3 года назад
I really don't know much about it. However, controlled burns intrigue me. I think it'd be a great process. However, I wouldn't recommend it here on this channel if you know what I mean.

If you, or anyone else, decide to level, solid tine or core aerating is a cheap, and very beneficial process. Especially on clay that sheds water easily. Add a little more sand to your order and fill in those holes!

Look into a Pro Plugger to plug the back in spots or make the investment in the same sod as the front and sides. Thanks for the question. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya!

I just got my landscaping license and I want to educated myself as much as possible. I too live in the cool climate. Central Oregon to be exact. We have extremely hard soils and lots and lots of rocks. If a customer wants aeration and de thatching done which one do I do first and is it necessary to do both areating and de thatching? If so which one first?
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 2 года назад
I am predominately a warm season channel. But from my best understanding, you should do both tasks while the grass is actively growing in early spring or early fall. Dethatching is typically done first. Whether or not you need to do both is up to the customer and if it needs or not. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and the questions.

I would like to know your opinion on liquid aeration (e.g. air8, etc.). Seems there’s not much evidence re its effectiveness.
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 3 года назад
Hey man. I've never used one, so I don't really have an opinion on them. However, my friends at Yard Mastery sent me a bottle of Air-8. I'm building a new house this summer, so ill be using it on the new lawn next season. It'll be a great test to see how good it works. From what I understand, it's more of an ammendment as opposed to the fast results of core or spike aeration. We'll see. Great to hear from ya. Thanks for watching and the question!

Unfortunately i am a zoysia guy and not Bermuda. Nevertheless ,still good enough infos on other topics I get from you ,so Thanks !But what we do have in common is the california trimmer and I was wondering if you ever lubricated the drive wheel chain and if so, what did you use ? I am just concerned about hurting the gras with leaking lubricant all over. Thanks again

@BudgetLawns 3 года назад
Thank you. Similar rules will apply to zoysia as well. Right on about the Cal Trimmer. That's awesome. I've not had to lubricate anything yet. It's a new unit as of the end of last summer, so it doesn't have a lot of time put onto it. I'm sure I'll be greasing things up at some point in the future. Thanks for the question and watching!

I need to level my lawn desperately!! I heard sand can cause the grass to burn. South Texas heat and sun are brutal in the summer. I also heard of mixing sand with soil. I am going g to research more before I get it done. Thanks for the awesome videos!!!
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 3 года назад
You're welcome. Thank you for watching them. I really appreciate the support and hope they help, even if it's just a little. I wouldn't worry about it burning. I'm not sure that that's entirely true especially if you keep it watered like you're supposed to. The first year I did mine temps were in the mid 90s to 100 with full sun all day for a week. What you can do is just level in mid to late spring before the brutal summer heat sets in. Here's the link to my leveling guide from when I did it last year. It's a 4-part playlist that goes from start to finish. I did a lot of research for this process that didn't cost too much money or time. ru-vid.com/group/PLI5KxvSvsO34b7LmPABK7ED6psv0aMVI4 Thanks again!

Hi, I got a question: my lawn is both terribly bumpy and filled with thatch. Which would you do first, level or dethatch? Thanks. One or two leveling cycles might not even straighten the lawn, this is how bad it is.
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 3 года назад
I’ve never dethatched. With that said I’d level first. But most folks would say dethatch first. Wouldn’t do both at the same time. Too much stress on the lawn. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya.

I really like how you present information! I'm a cool season guy, and I de-thatch only when necessary. I do aerate every other year as it helps with soil compaction. Where I am we have very dense clay and when it dries out in the summer time, oh it can compact for sure. Aeration once every other year along with good practices and i seem to no longer have issues with soil compaction
