I am soooo jealous watching this video. A month ago I purchased 3 white pineapples from Hawaii and they were the best I’ve ever had! I planted the 3 tops and they are starting to grow taller. So excited for them to fruit…! Your videos inspired me to try growing them. I have grown regular gold over the years but this is the first time I’ve had white ones.

Wow, the leaves are smooth? Mine are serrated and "bite" me even when I'm being careful. It's my first pineapple, still on the plant but close to ripening. So excited. Have no idea what type it is because it was store bought by our neighbors. Can't wait!

@@rosem6604 Usually serrated is a traditional gold pineapple from the store. Florida land race pineapple are also serrated, but they are very rare. I get the thorns in me all the time if I don’t wear gloves, thankfully they come out easily. Maui gold and white sugarloaf are smooth. I hope you enjoy your first pineapple! 🍍

Hi I have a pineapple that has been growing for about 18 months. I just harvested my first fruit off it (BEST PINEAPPLE EVER), but I have no slips or suckers. What do I need to do with the plant after I harvest the fruit, and how can I encourage it to grow slips and suckers? Thx!

I’m so glad you got to enjoy a homegrown pineapple, there really is nothing better! I have had several plants that didn’t have a sucker on it while it was fruiting…but got one months later. How long ago did you pick your fruit? Slips only come during fruiting time, but suckers can come before, during or even many months after the fruit has been harvested. I would keep your mother plant a little longer and see. 9x out of 10, it will give you a sucker! Remember they love nitrogen…so feed your plant fertilizer and hopefully that will help your plant! 🍍

@@planepineapplelife thanx for your response. I picked it on wednesday and then fed it with a 24-8-16 MG knockoff a couple days later. I'll keep giving it nitrogen and see what happens. So once a plant fruits once does it ever fruit again, or does it just grow suckers after that? Also does repotting encourage suckering, or do they like having cramped feet? I have it in I think a 6 gallon nursery pot -- 13" diameter x 12" tall. thanx --Phil

Hi Phil, it will never give you another fruit in the same spot your last fruit was picked…the new sucker will give you a fruit. It could be next to the previous one or higher or lower than where your last fruit was. The old stalk will die off. You can definitely repot if you want, but don’t have to…I don’t think it will matter on the sucker, I find bigger pots along with fertilizer have given me bigger fruit. Just give it 2-5 months and see if a sucker starts! If the sucker is left on the mother plant, you will usually get a new fruit within the year. If you remove the sucker, you are starting over and it will take 12-36 months. I usually use azalea or tomato fertilizer…and have added my used coffee grounds to the dirt on a few and had great results! Keep me posted on if you get a sucker in a couple months! Best of luck! 🍍

Well I only had to wait 38 days. I picked the fruit on September 7th, and on October 15th a sucker broke thru one of the lower leaves. I think in the interim I fed it twice with a water soluble 24-8-16 fertilizer. Thx.

Where do you get the white Sugarloaf I would like to grow one I have golden is all I have
@planepineapplelife
@planepineapplelife Месяц назад
@@walterabrams9272 I purchased my sugarloafs from Kauai Sugarloaf in Hawaii. You get approximately a 3.5-4 pound fruit with a partial crown top shipped to you. The cost is $39.95 fruit plus $40 for shipping. You get a discount on shipping if you purchase more pineapples at one time. So basically $80 for 1 fruit. When I purchased my first few sets from them (2016), the cost was around $60 for 1 fruit w/shipping.

@@planepineapplelife I'm doing great. My pineapples are doing well. I have a ripe one to pick in a day or 2. I had about 45 so far this season and only 1 was bitten by critters. In about mid May I had to move all my plants from their location to where they are currently. While relocating them I found one plant that was bearing fruit unknown to me. I ate that fruit about 2 weeks ago. I ate 2 last week. I have a new pineapple bearing, a Florida Special.

That’s awesome! I only had 20 pineapples this year…I have a feeling I will have many more next year. I still haven’t tried a Florida land racer/ FL special pineapple yet, but have heard they are delicious…but then again, all pineapples are delicious when homegrown! I have planted some Hawaiian Maui Gold pineapples, so hopefully by next year they will be ready! Glad it was only 1 out of your 45 that critters got. Guess they just want that delicious fruit too!

Is the split crown still growing?

It has been growing, but only 1 part. I had it in a bad spot and it wasn’t getting water. Now, I don’t know… we decided to leave our house while hurricane Ian came through. Hopefully my plants survived. 🤞🏼🙏🏻🍍
