When Should You Wish on the Weapon Banner? | Genshin Impact Universal Guide 

Addressing an oopsie that Vidmilo made in this video: At around 9:51, I showed a short list of characters that are good for a newer genshin account to pick up for team building flexibility, but I didn't bother to elaborate more on other characters worth considering, or how they roughly compare to one another. Here's a more accurate extension of this list: Highest flexibility - Nahida, Kazuha, Yelan - These characters can be fit into the vast majority of teams, and will expand team building options the most. Note that this does NOT mean any are necessary to wish for. High flexibility - Ayato, Raiden, Kokomi - All fit into several archetypes, most of the time work as excellent substitutes for a BiS character in high demand. Honorable mention - Zhongli - Mentioning him because he can be a comfortable damage to defensive utility exchange in almost any team, but only arguably necessary in teams that have an on fielder doing multiple slow charge shots. If you don't mind the loss in damage, you'll get good use out of him. Horizontal investment tier - Most 5 star carries / damage dealers (Nilou teams, Xiao, Wanderer, Childe, Alhaitham, Yae, etc. ) - Some of the best options for horizontal investment, but can require specific higher demand characters to work. Some characters need a lot of vertical investment to work at their maximum potential (i.e. constellations, signature weapon), while others like Nilou might like specific teammates to unlock maximum potential (Nahida). Depending on the account's primogem situation, certain carries can be better or worse to go for than others, which I won't get into too much detail on here. Hopefully this helps understand the reasoning as to why some "unconventional" characters are seen with the 5 stars regarded as the best, sorry for the confusion!

I'm all about exposing gacha BS, but the Epitomized path was added sometime after a streamer (or two) lost like 7-8 times in a row. Tectone I know lost 7+ in a row to Wolf's Grave stone. So, the Epitomized path is actually a mercy, despite it still being pretty bad.

Just remember: this is a theory. In reality, you can spend your wishes on "pretty good" banner, and get 9 copies of Lions Roar instead of all those sweet Favonius and Sacrificial weapons.

I have a few rules for the weapon banner that have helped me a lot as a late game player 1. don't wish unless you would be ok getting both weapons. like, I threw 30 wishes on the key/thousand floating dreams banner cuz I have both nilou and nahida, and if I didn't get I wouldn't have minded getting nahidas signature 2. limit yourself. don't go "I'll pull until I get x weapon or im out of primos." be like "I'll reserve 20-30 wishes for weapon banner and maybe I'll get lucky." personally, I like to throw wishes at weapon banner if I've been saving for a long time but won a 50/50 or know I have a guarantee on character banner 3. assume there's a character banner you'll want soon. ya know, just be smart abt it

Remember that new characters open more playstyle options, whereas weapons just increase your numbers.

This is, without a doubt, answers every anxiety F2P players have. For something so crucial such as Primos, we tend to have less but wanting for more. Having more choice isn't a freedom, it's a torture. The video is beautifully explained and narrated while having empirical data to back up your claim. Well done and thank you for the info! If you're still undecided about the weapon banner, I'll be answering your questions to the best of my ability!

There's one more thing that I think is worth considering when considering weapon banner vs. character banner as well. That being, it's a lot more resin efficient to level weapons to 90 then it is to level a character, their artifacts and their talents. Unless you're dropping primogems on resin refreshes or have some fragiles/transients to spend, you can generally expect maximizing any character you pull that you want to build to take a huge amount of resin, up to about 18 days of resin or so(I think?)without the assistance of already-existing resources(and this is not even considering the needed artifact EXP to level their artifacts), while a 5 star weapon only takes about 2 days of resin in weapon domains to level a 5 star weapon to 90. However, it's also worth considering that to do so takes around 900 Mystic Enhancement Ores, which translates to about 3600 ores from Crystal and Amethyst ore nodes. This is something you can grind out if you're willing(if not, you can make this process far easier by forging any magical ores you pick up; I wouldn't, though), and though it's a bit boring and VERY time consuming, it's still far, far more resin lenient then building characters. I've spent my resin every single day for about 20 months playing this game now, and I STILL don't feel like I have nearly enough resin for artifact domains; reason being, because I tend to focus on building characters much more often. dude thank you for this explanation, i always thought weapon banner odds were about the same except that soft pity started in the 60's instead of the 70's. didn't know the odds of the banner weapons also changed to 50/50 after losing once. this'll help me plenty when budgeting for focalors and her weapon.

I didn't even tough the weapon banner until relatively recently (Raiden's most recent rerun as on June 2023). I was really focused on accumulating characters because for one, I just wanted them, and that's what I felt would lend most value to my teams (getting meta units like Raiden, Yelan, and Ayaka). Finally, I went for Engulfing for Raiden (got it), and have since then bulked up my 5* weapon collection a bit. I purposefully got Mistsplitter for Ayaka, Key for Nilou and Layla, and just recently Thundering for Yoimiya. I got Dreams for Nahida and PJWS for Xiao along the way (also Skyward Pride and two Lost Prayers from the Standard Banner). My point here being, I definitely feel like the weapons make my characters better, but they're by no means necessary. If I didn't have the characters in the first place or the supports to utilize alongside them, the weapons would do nothing for me. I consider myself quite late game now and I decided weapons were what I wanted to spend my Primos (and a bit of real life money) on. You should almost always prioritize characters you want or will bolster your current DPSes because it's much easier to replace a 5* weapon with a 4* weapon, good artefacts, and good supports than the other way around.

Very good to know. Iirc, the only time I wished on the weapon banner was during 3.2 when we had the Key and Jade Cutter. I figured I would be fine with either since I pulled Nilou and a few copies of Xiphos would also be nice.

Thank you for this, I started searching which I shall pull for the 4.1 banners and currently guaranteed for c0 Hu Tao. My scenario is that after I got c0 Hu Tao, I am considering getting Homa or her c1. I have already Xingqiu, Yelan and Zhongli for her. Considering this video, I can't consider myself as a end game player since I just started playing genshin since 3.3 phase 2. Also, the explanations are clear and convinced me not to waste primos for a weapon that you can't barely unless you are lucky. Especially me as f2p, it is much better to have many support characters rather than weapons you can't use for any character.

Good video. Made me realize I'm pretty smort. I have never wished for weapon banner but there was one that was impossible to skip. The Raiden Ayato weapon banner. I ended up wishing on it because I have both characters + I needed Akuoumaru for Eula, Sacrificial Fragments and Favonious Lance copies. Insane thing is I ended up getting EVERYTHING I WANTED WITHIN 50 WISHES including both 5 star weapons!!!! Still cant believe it sometimes (I'm a.. from time to time welkin buyer).

Getting R5 Mouun’s Moon on the weapon banner was 10x better for my raiden team than the engulfing lightning. Sara absolutely shreds things thanks to that beefy passive + Kazuha and Bennett

Speaking of 5star weapon value - it's important to compare it in real sutiations. In perfect world they are not so valuable, if you keep balance of stats, always playing correct etc. But just simple higher base atk became more valuable if you are often missing your buffs like bennet ult, and higher base is very pleasant in general, it make every your %atk on artifacts better. And last but not least, we don't have such a wide choise of crit 4-star weapons, basically only glitter weapons, battle pass weapons and crit catalyst. And without crit weapon it's more difficult to balance your stats in optimal way.

I had 60 something pity on my weapon banner and i thought I might aswell try to snipe Aqua Simulacra during Yelan's next rerun and this video really helped me in not doing so. 3/8 is a very low chance and I'd be wasting my EP if i did not get Aqua. Thank you so much for this video it helped a lot in potentially wasting my primogems in the far future for a banner with very little value

"The weapon banner becomes more efficient the less you wish on it". True. I've only wished on character banners for a year and a half since I started the game and when I finally started wishing on the weapon banner for the first time I got all the weapons I was looking forward to get 😭 Ofc this is luck, but I now have ayato's, ayaka's swords, and I hope I'm getting yae's now

I can really recommend the weapon banner, if there are two good featured weapons (like Homa and Elegy for example). You can only get something bad this way if u lose the 75/25 and this is something that can always happen (like losing 50/50 on the character banner). Following this strategy I got Homa, Elegy, Stonethresher, Jadecutter and more.

Great video, as someone who has been welkin only since 1.0, I did want to add something. When we get banners with 2 great weapons, Patch 3.4 had aqua simulacra and homa, and those 2 weapons will help any account with abyss, def a great banner there. Once in a while, miyoho throws us a cracked weapon banner I think is not worth passing on.

Great analysis

Weapon banners only make sense if you want to minmax a certain character or team archetype. There is never a case where you would need to have these weapons. If you enjoy vertical investment, then go for it. If you enjoy having different comps and playstyles, getting more characters should be your priority. I'd say newer players should avoid weapon banners completely.
