Copying or drawing inspiration from has been going on in the business world for decades, its not personal its just business. Big brands do it all the time, I refer people to this ongoing war between Cola and Pepsi: The history is clear in the cola wars. Coca-Cola invents something and Pepsi appears to copy it. From their initial offerings in the late 1880s, to their diet concoctions, to the masculine diet drinks (Zero and Max). The key word here is 'appears to copy it' because while one might seem a bit like the other, there isnt really any solid proof to really call the other out on. Or take any legal action. The most the two brands can do is continue to work and try to outdo each other. 'Beef' doesnt even cross their lips. Because at the end of the day, there is more than enough food for everyone to eat at the table and be successful. If they continue to watch what the other one is doing, that means they're not really focusing on their own thing. As a culture we need to look past certain little petty things and look at the bigger picture. There's absolutely nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from people before you who have been successful. Try to put your own spin on a successful formula. Another thing I learnt from a successful business person, this isnt directed at anyone btw. But if seeing someone who's successful and doing better than you, makes you feel any way or like you want to doubt yourself, then don't watch that person/brand/shop/business..On the other hand if watching what that person or brand does motivates you and drives you on to up the ante and go one better, then yes that is the time when you can focus or research what other successful brands or shops etc are doing.
