I appreciate your efforts in trying to make these replays as exciting as possible while effectively blind with one hand tied behind your back (in terms of casting tools in the replay interface).
Would the act of playing a painful game and then subjecting Maximusblack to it, therefore spurring others to send in their games, be considered a cycle of violence?
I got into the game yesterday and I was suprised how well-thought designed the casters are. E.g. there are a bunch of abilities, that have dual effect, depending on whether you cast it on enemy or friendly unit. That's great, because that might add more variety to the gameplay. Caster generally have multiple uses and they resembles more Warcraft style of casters than Starcraft. I also love the "chrono-boost" of Celestials - if you chrono different building, you get different effect - production facilities boosts units production speed, but upgrading facilities can either boost units damage or structures armor, which make it important to strategically place your building. Also, Vanguards "supply-depos" can either boost production speed of nearby facilities, or create shield protecting nearby structures. I like it, it resembles a little bit strategic planning of structures placement and bonuses of Supreme Commander games.
It's crazy to me how shitty this game looks. I wasn't expecting anything near sc2 levels but there are games in roblox that are significantly more impressive
I played the game yesterday, and my opinion is: the campaign is visually off-putting and requires substantial work, but the 1v1 looks fine to me. I think the main difference between Starcraft and Stormgate looks/graphics is the the lack of proper contrast in the colors palette in the latter. Also, some Vanguard structures looks smaller that they should be. Besides that, after playing for the while, I get used to it and I can recognize building with no problem, and I think they are not as badly designed as people said they were. The perception of them is really different then you play the game and watch it, and when you know already what the buildings are and what they do. I didn't count, but it seems that there are less building types in Stormgate than in Starcraft (but they have more "upgrades"), which makes them somehow easier to remember. Oh, and I really like the light reflections in the Stormgate, especially water and some reflections on buildings, and some abilities effects look really cools.
Also, I remember how SC2 was criticized for it's candy, too-bright, less grim and dark art style in comparison to SC1 for a long time. And I think from this perspective it doesn't really look much different than Stormgate in terms of art-style, we just got used to it. I really thing the lack of contrast and color vibrancy is the main differentiating factor between SC2 and SG. But I don't hate it, I don't think that SC2 > SG, but I think that among SC1, SC2 and SG - still SC1 wins. This only applies to the top-down 1v1 graphics, in terms of the cut-scenes - it's a whole another story - SC2 remains unconquered and I think it will remain so for a long time (budget differences).
@@NeonTheGreat Huh, strange. I instantly loved SC2 when I saw it, didn't think for a second it could be considered worse looking than SC1. And the cinematics in SC1, for its era, I thought were jaw-dropping (especially the scripts/direction but the graphics didn't hurt the delivery), while for SC2 I can count on one hand which ones I actually thought were impressive (here despite the newer graphics the writing/direction mostly ruined them, especially the godawful "Queen Bitch of the Universe" intro to HotS, which just turned Kerrigan into a complete meme).
@@ZverseZ I don't think that reply was meant for me, but yes, so far SG looks like Temu SC or GenAI SC lol. It can be improved perceptibly by upping the contrast, but some unit designs... SMH. I only just now, watching this cast, realized Argents are supposed to have 2 arms and 2 legs, and I can only tell when they have their backs to the camera. Otherwise they look like a pile of scrap metal.
But have I introduced you to our new "Let's watch human players spend half their time fighting the same standardized NPCs in each and every single game forever"? :D
I got yesterday into the game and I must say - I really like it. The confusion about units role, structures function and their looks disappears when you play with each race for the while. Actually, "tech-trees" are very intuitive and similar for each race. Macro-wise, the differences begin in the execution of your base development using abilities of units, buildings and the top-bar abilities. E.g. every race can boost production speed of units, but they do it their own way. Vanguards have these solar "supply-depos" which charge selected factory/baracks, Celestials have power-depended chrono-boost, and Infernals, as far as I discovered, they have two things: 1) their production constantly regenerates to 3 charges, which can be used to instantly build up to 3 units (it's like larva but without production time, only larva respawn time); 2) they have top-bar ability to regenerate 3 charges instantly for a building and I find it useful to quickly saturate base, like: you build 3 workers, regenerate charges, and build another 3 workers almost IMMEDIATELY. I really like concepts of this game. I must say, it much more resembles Warcraft style of gameplay than Starcraft (which is cool, as we never got proper Warcraft 3 successor). The campaign really needs a lot of work (mostly visuals, lack of animations, weird units looks in the cutscenes, locations could look better), BUT, the 1v1 is great, and it's the most important news for competitive players. After my experience with the game, my faith in the Frost Giant was reinforced. I do believe they can make something great.
Totally love the attempt to add info and insight to the game when features don't exist to support it. Also, totally not pulling punches....appreciate the honest appraisal. Keep it up!
I don't what to say Jeff. This...this is perfection. I can practically taste the salt and yet...its a good salt, it comes from a place of love and affection.... Also its savage as fuck and I love it: :D
This games really suffers on comparisons to the SC2, but not because it's worse, but because it is different and it's much more Warcraft-like. Like, Hexen leaves trap and it 50 deals damage, which would kill or seriously damage a lot of weaker units in SC2 instantly (SC2 gameplay generally is more dynamic and risky, with high-risk-high-reward mechanic), but in SG units are much bulkier/tougher and it doesn't happen (just like in WC3). Also, Celestials feel unique as some of their buildings move and floats, but it also resembles in some degree Elves form WC3, whose buildings also could move and attack.
I've reached diamond with all 3 races here's the state of the game right now. Celestials should beat vanguard, vanguard should beat infernals, infernals should beat celestials. It's a literal rock paper scissors game and if you for example are playing celestials and beat an infernal player the infernal player literally fucked up somewhere. And that's how it is for every single match up atm. Also every mirror match is trash. Vanguard vs Vanguard = mass dogs celestials vs celestials is usually a 40 minute argent battle and infernals is coin toss of who has the most mags to do the most stomps. They have the backbone of a really great game but they are failing in execution right now.
The graphics are terrible, the visual design and the art direction is terrible. It's unreadable, all units looks like nothing. Most RTS have badass units and structure that you can relate too in a way and guess what they are about without even knowing the game. Even Zerg and Protoss units and structures somewhat make sense and have a cohesive design language. This is just like looking at random pixels moving around on the screen. It's absolutely terrible to watch and I couldn't ever see myself playing this game. None of the units I've seen so far feel badass and interesting.
Gonna be honest. This feels like I shouldn't be seeing this. It looks like it should still be in closed beta. And this is a lot harder to follow than Starcraft. And I say this as someone that never played the game but enjoyed watching.
Best part of Stormgate is when you open the game up and it says "It's Storm Gating time!!" This game will make a Stormillion dollars and have a Gatillion players, mark my words!!!
Mr black! I hate to say it but the health is literally in the bottom left when you click a unit. Last match you were going off about not knowing how much health a lancer had with scouts attacking him and you can see its health drop. Regardless, great commentary! Miss listening to your sarcasm and humor. Been watching this channel for well over a decade now here and there and glad to find a series I’m regularly coming back to.
That's what he was saying. You have to individually click on a single unit to inspect health from a replay. The health bars over units don't work in replays so it's practically impossible to judge a battle with multiple units.
