When STRIPPING for YouTube Views Goes Horribly Wrong. 1966 C10 Primer Removal

Hey, our 1966 Chevy C10 Truck project looks like Elmo threw up all over it. Let's try to remove the gunky old red primer with lacquer thinner and a toothbrush. Hope you all enjoy having your valuable time wasted because this one is a real hum-dinger. Also, a millennial tries to start old stovebolt 6 cylinder engines (and does it wrong). Lastly, we head to the auto parts store to check in with F-15 fighter pilot Dr. Longbottom.

Thanks for setting me straight on the starting procedure on these trucks. I also have been doing it wrong for over half a century. I didn't realize the importance of washing down the cylinder walls with gas to remove any residual oil before cold starting. I also want to apologize for letting my patreon stop. I just wander through life. All my bank cards expired and I need to update it. Joseph and Mary send their love. Thank you for your time.

Every day I drove my 64 F100 past five fully restored vehicles they're afraid to drive!😊 Sort of a resto- mod- survivor. The original paint is a buff beige color that one of the camouflage colors matches almost perfect. The rust repair almost disappears. Made for an interesting way of exposing the paint archaeology.... I never would have thought of trying a toothbrush. Ol' Dr. Longbottom reminds me of a customer I had decades ago. Would usually only by 1 spark plug (sometimes 2) for an old Chrysler he owned. It only fouled one cylinder and he saw no need to change them all for that one 'troublesome' cylinder.

I'm a boomer and recall that blue as being a much in demand item from CTC. I think it may have come in gallons (pre metric unit of liquid volume), I am positive in came in spray bombs (precusor to todays rattle can). As for your cat chewing your power cord, ours do it as well. I think it all starts in the Chinese factories where they treat the cords with a mixture of mouse and catnip. Ingenious if you think about it, the cats become captains of industry assuring a never ending demand for power cords. Your '66 will be a sweet ride when finished. For a six banger it has an awesome rumble, no doubt due to the absence of a catalytic converter.

Dr. Longbottom needs to have a cameo every now and then or his own segment of the show. Man, you are twisted. My kinda folks. There used to be an old fella next door, years ago (now I'M the old fella, sigh). He had a Dodge Aries. His start routine was to pump it a few times and when it fired off he would hold it to the floor until the heater started blowing warm air. The rev limiter on those was the valve springs. He did that for years and that amazing little K car outlasted him Poor K car. Probably one of the few that actually took a beating and kept working. Stay well, sir.

Maybe that's how you start your trucks using the metric system, but down here in the States of Merica the correct process is as follows. 1. do not attempt to start the truck until you are at least 20mins late for work. (30mins if it's real cold) 2. Turn the key to "start" and hold... pump the gas wildly. Hold key in "start" position until you smell smoke. 3. Pull start truck with another vehicle.. (3 or 4 miles usually does the trick.) If it's an automatic transmission just call in sick. Cheers from the shed P.S. I think the old truck looks pretty good.

That might work for you down there in Iowa where you're closer to sea level, but it would never work up here in the mountains of Saskatchewan. It's got nothing to do with the metric system and everything to do with elevation changes. The air is a lot thinner and more communist up here; that's why we use a different starting procedure.

While I've had to subsist on a Canadian Bacon diet of Cold War Motors, Half Ass Custom and Make it Kustom, you have been missed. (from 5 minutes in) Your present exercise makes me wonder why that truck was shot in primer: it has cracked Bondo, rust, and ill-conceived patches beneath - the which it certainly didn't hide or prevent from becoming worse. Perhaps the previous owner should have asked for 'One Auto-body Technician, please?' I am sure that it will get the loving care that such a fine example of a GM 'Muscle Truck' deserves. 😎

Oh I usually post monthly behind the scenes updates for the patrons, but any of the videos where work is getting done always get posted to youtube. I think the primer job was just some kids high school hot rod attempt, it's the only logical explanation I could come up with and also explains the speaker holes hacked into the back of the cab haha

I would have given a cheapo paint job after fixing the rusted areas. What I did sometimes was to dust silver over a solid color , then clear with cheapo enamel clear paint (not 2K). It can look great from 20 feet, but the cost is dirt cheap with cheap paint. Dusting over a solid color with silver and melting it in with clear enamel looks like metal-flake. Hey, it still stops the rust from forming again. I could care less about perfection. As long as it's solid and runs good. Use the thing. Show trucks are not my thing at all. Your metal shaping skills are amazing.
