Join me in the telling of Confederate General John Hunt Morgan and his Great Raid through Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. It tells of the only Civil War Battle fought on Indiana soil. This happened in July of 1863.
My great great grandfather from Grant County. Kentucky was part of Morgan's Raiders, 5th Kentucky Calvary Co D and was captured in Vernon, Indiana on July 11th 1863 and spent 2 years as a pow at Camp Douglas in Chicago, Illinois.
Interesting In 1976 @ 16 years old I was looking for Arrowheads in a corn field in Jennings county and came across a civil war grave and tombstone. it was in horrible shape with big holes and roots going everywhere. it was a great spot for Indian artifact's. now I wish i would of written down the facts on the tombstone
@@hoosierhistorylegendsheroe2039 Yes I could but I didn't have anything to write it down + I never even thought about it most likely. just a kid out killing time in the country. Not even real sure the location anymore but not far from Scipio
I can totally understand not writing the name down. I’m sure I wouldn’t have either. I just wonder if the location is still there, or if it is now a housing addition or something.
@@hoosierhistorylegendsheroe2039 Never know. It was just lots of corn fields back then and we could see the huge farm house from the location of the grave. it was up against a huge tree and a hole with tons of roots. looked as if maybe it had been dug up or attempted too. I thought about returning with a metal detector but never did. I know they buried them with belonging's back then. gold n silver coins/ watches ETC
