During World War II, Imperial Japan wanted to upgrade its tank fleet, especially because things were getting tense with the Soviet Union in Manchuria. Japanese tanks were falling behind compared to the newer tanks used by the Soviets and the Allies. To solve the problem, Japan looked to its big and strong ally, Germany, to get better military equipment, including the iconic Tiger tank, known for being indestructible while at the same time destroying everything in front of it.
In this video, we’re going to talk about the failed attempt of Japan to acquire the German Tiger tank.
So hello and welcome and enjoy this video.

Can you imagine an American tanker going to Asia, only to find out that his M4 is once again facing a Tiger? That would be like: "oh shit, not again..."

This whole idea never made much sense to me. Japanese heavy industry wasn’t geared to tank production and wasn’t really in a state to start it up in meaningful numbers later in the war, particularly after the bombing campaign started up and their commercial shipping was pretty much stopped by the submarine campaign. Speaking of shipping the difficulty of shipping tanks around was one of the reasons they only produced light tanks for much of the war and their ability to ship heavy Tiger tanks would have been limited at the best of times. And if they were getting the thing to fight the Soviets it makes even less sense as the Germans were steadily losing ground to them and they had numbers of Tigers already. I really don’t get how getting a big and expensive to produce vehicle would have helped them at all as they couldn’t produce the thing in remotely the numbers required. Getting hold of cheaper, easier to produce, and still very effective StuG IIIs would have been a much better idea.

I doubt any of that would've happened, American submarines were already wrecking havoc on Japanese shipping in the Pacific and the South China Sea, trying to ship a German tank through the Soviet Union or through a roundabout way over sea or Asia or the Pacific was essentially impossible as most of the continent is Allied territory. Another factor is the Japanese Imperial Navy, you really think they'd spent resources and ships to transport a German tank that could convince the leadership to cut off the Navy's steel to build more tanks for the Army? I think not.

Thinking about it, back then the Japanese suffered heavily in their tank technology and lacked enough proper materials. I heard stories about some japanese tanks being made of poor quality construction steal.

German tanks in later war suffered from material shortages too. Panther A was vastly better than the Panther D, Schutzen panels were scrapped and replaced with what amounts to chicken cages, poor quality welds also appeared in Tiger II and a bunch of other logistical issues. The Axis had no chance of winning the war.

Could you talk on the Polish Leopard 2PL and if its a viable upgrade to keep the 2A4 up to date and combat worthy?

Look up the leopard 2 arc 3.0, clearly the tank designing experts still think the older Leopard2s are still viable with upgrades
