Well, he's clearly not a trumpetist, but man he's in his 78 and still singing amazingly well.. Not everyone in his age could do that. I agree, he's trumpet playing isn't that good. But what if he wanted to play it? Seems like they were just having fun, not trying to impress some random guys in the internet with their skills. That's what music is about, joy...
Robert Diepold He’s voice has aged (which is obvious because he’s 78), but he can still reach quite high notes. It depends on the song, but he still has a wide vocal range.
@@Jezcassar He can still sound pretty good on mid tempo Beatle songs but most other things he really needs backup help from his band, especially Abe Lionel.
A quintessential New Orleans song played by legendary musicians for the benefit of (and partially in) one of the most storied venues in New Orleans. I literally got goosebumps watching this! 🙂
The trumpet was Sir Paul's first instrument he ever played. His father gave him one for his 14th birthday as a teenager, but he exchanged it for his first guitar the same year (1956). Even if he hasn't played for ages, I think he gets better and better during the song. And to all those critics out there, "shut up!", as the purpose of this session is for the pure fun of making music together with friends and fellow musicians. It's a Jam session, nobody should care about some "BLUE NOTES"!
So you are saying that if it is a jam and it's for fun it doesn't matter if it's sounds awful. Well I don't think so. There's always gotta be timming at least. The fun starts when it's all on time and well played, then it's enjoyable.
If that's what you think about it, you haven't understood at all what I was trying to say, unless you are a real livemusician, who has played without any time base correctional and cumputerised machines. Music is all about feelings, not about personal perfection. You are not a musician, if you can't play together with others by ear. To me, your comment sounds just like a simple minded consumer, who has never ever experienced the joy of playing live to an audience.
This is awful. The trumpet sounds funny, like with not enough air. And it makes everything else sounds weird, like out of time. Sorry not sorry. I love Paul but I have to speak my mind.
This is just for fun and a fundraiser, for god’s sake. He can play dozens of different instruments, and trumpet is the first one he played when he was a kid. He obviously is no professional of the trumpet but he hit the notes good enough for the regular ear.
Of course he is not a trumpet player and he knows that. I used to play trombone at school and you have to study really hard to play well, practice every day or your mouth will not work. Paul is Paul, he doesn't have to prove anything, he's 78 years old and can play trumpet for fun. And more, jazz is about improvisation, freedom, it is a perfect song to have Paul playing trumpet. I loved it.
