@HedgeOnStage yeah of course but it adds to the dynamic, I remember seeing something about the casting of jack having a deeper meaning. Black and white, red and blue both polar opposites, but really well reflected in jack and sky. Even their back stories, but both still show heroism and doing the right thing
@@xpertninja13it really did feel that way early in the season, the way they wrote sky as a generic white cop and even if he was constantly being strict and uptight, he was also constantly making mistakes.
@@LonggoBonggoAs a kid I didn’t catch it but as an adult it seems pretty blatant. There’s no way the script writers put that in, reviewed it, and didn’t see it as a double entendre Reminds me of the teen titans scene with Starfire being called a slur and Cyborg saying he’s been discriminated against too
@@lanzo236 Man but if they had a proper storyline for sam It would have been awesome Sam not having a face is interesting but his back story should have been properly explained Not just you show 2 episodes for sam and z and bring him back to future What happened in between ? We should have known about that
This fact always bothered me, especially having seen Deka before SPD. Even the SPD executive producers admitted later that the ball of light idea for Omega Ranger was a bad idea. I also don't buy the "a 7th Ranger actor wasn't in the budget" argument, especially after RPM had no problem with its full cast of 7th Rangers plus other main cast members. Apparently the ball of light this was an actual conscious creative decision they made during production, and... yeah, it didn't land at all.
Jacks really shocked me when i watched S.P.D. He was a black man who had locks was from the street had a problem with authority and ain't want anything to do with the police force but stepped up did what he needed to and choose his community in the end, ment a lot to see real representation for us man was a legend 💪🏿🔥🔥🔥
Jack handing Sky his Morpher and letting him be the Red Ranger for that one time is one of my favorite SPD moments because even though Heroes comes in all colors Jack knew letting Sky be the Red Ranger for this fight was incredibly important to Sky he not only got justice for his father death but also in that moment Sky got to continue his father's legacy as the Red Ranger for this one moment 😭🤘🔥🔥
They blessed us with SPDs writing. I was only 12 at the time but compared to some lesser seasons, episodes like this look even better on a retrospective
As a Power Ranger fan who's been there since the beginning I must say that Jack is the best Red Ranger and these episodes prove it. I always said Jack may not be the Red Ranger you always want, but he was the Red Ranger that was needed to get the job done.
I don't really know how to judge someone as a good red ranger, But I do know that Jack is written as probably the best team leader, we have multiple episodes of him looking out for his teammates and actually admitting to each of them when he's wrong and should've believed in them.
It turns out at the end Skye wasn’t really angry Jack was chosen because of his dad, he was angry cause he’s a white supremacist. Heroes don’t come in all “colors” in his book. Classic sky. 😅
@@shelbybayer200 He didn't exactly give up being the Red. He was promoted to Kruger's spot, while Bridge was promoted to his. Also fun fact, Sky's new suit/power is called the Deka Ranger, which is the name of the Sentai season SPD was adapted from.
@@overseerpjoe9477 showing that Sky himself was not only red ranger material but also capable of leading all of SPD. I wished they would have done more with SPD in later rangers showing Sky in command of a team lead by red ranger Bridge.
@@overseerpjoe9477 You didn't need to tell me about the Deka Ranger Sentai. But, yeah that's actually a really good way to reference the Sentai In the American version
I remember during the "Disney era" for some reason the "genwunners" of MMPR fans were talking very reckless. Hindsight almost a decade later the Disney era is "praised" after the Neo Saban era. He was a cheap ass during the 90s and his cheap ass continued in the 2010s.
@@hermanswords8629 everything surrounding Mack being an android? Tyzonn and his connection to the fear cats? The finale episode? It’s probably at the bottom of the Disney seasons (depending on if wild force counts) but it still has some good stuff.
Spd is peak And Jack is a unique ranger. Moving on from spd when the mission was over cuz he wanted to do more. But he still answered the call as red ranger when he was called upon to do so.
I swear to god heros come in all colors is such a line Not only in the sense of brightly colored based superheros but also in the diversity of characters weve had as rangers Man spd and rpm were so different idk they treated their audiences with not mature stories but mature themes
While my dad introduced me to the Power Rangers franchise through the original MMPR series, SPD were my childhood team… Jack Landors was my generation’s Red Ranger. He and Sky (along with Cruger) were largely the main focus on the SPD series and story and the character arcs the two went through to make that Mirlock moment so power was amazing. Jack had to learn the responsibility of power, and the importance of reading his teammates and understanding what they need (for example during the Sinuku episode when Jack went out of his way to learn why a birthday was so important after he upset Syd) and Sky had to learn how to let go of his pride and realize that his rank doesn’t necessary determine his worth. When Jack gave his morpher to Sky so Sky could finish Mirlock in the same colors as his father… it completed Jack’s arc by showing that he can now understand the needs of anyone… even Sky who was once hard to work with. And for Sky, he graciously returns Jack’s morpher to him at the end of the two parter, finally realizing that his blue rank doesn’t make him a lesser man or ranger. He recognizes what Jack did for him… and fully accepts that Cruger made the right choice. Both characters matured so much to get to this point… and man is it cathartic every time I revisit SPD to get to this point because Jack and Sky went through hell and back to finally forge the friendship that they did.
Among dino thunder, SPD was my personal second favorite. All the characters were perfect, every story arc was top notch, and the growth each ranger goes through makes it so worth while to watch. Especially jack and sky's relationship. Jack's line of "Heros come in all colors" is one of the best lines in the whole series.
I haven't seen all of SPD's episodes, but the ones I have always have the best interactions with Jack and Sky. The first was Jack resting on his laurels about being the Red Ranger, relaxing while everyone was training. By the end, Jack is working into the night, with Sky watching him having the final vote if Jack should be kicked out or not. The next was when a friend of Sky's is a traitor, and Sky wants to bring him in alone. Jack can't let that happen due to regulations but points out things that the team does that can give Sky a few minutes to do what he needs to. These two are Yin and Yang. Two sides of the same coin that complete each other. While I haven't seen them all, this dynamic is probably the best in Power Rangers.
SPD has a special place in my heart, it was the first Power Rangers series I watched from beginning to end. Jack was like my favorite Ranger ever at the time, loved his dynamic with Sky.
Same growing up as a young black kid in the early 2000s I wanted to be TJ and Jack so badly because they looked like me and were the Red Rangers and leaders of their team
he's my 3rd favorite ranger of all time. first being Tommy and the 2nd being Nick from Mystic Force. All 3 of them had amazing character development and story.
I think the tittle of the episode is amazing, because it shows how ranger color, skin color, nothing matters more then who you are, such a hype episode from a hype season
As a little kid and to this day, Jack Landors was, and is my all-time favorite Power Rangers character. I'm not black, so I can't relate to him on the same level you did, but I related to him in terms of character so much that I thought that while we might not share the same skin color, we share the same heart. Like he said, heroes come in all colors.
@@HedgeOnStage I mean that's a good character. To me the best character is if you can relate to them regardless of skin color they have, of course while holding even more value to those of the same group they represent as well.
The more I look back, SPD cooked so hard, the stove was running out of gas for Mysthic Force, and burned out by the time Operation Overdrive hit the frying pan.
Such an awesome story they told with this relationship. You could feel both their emotion. The line "heroes come in all colors" I feel at least in the context of this group of rangers really shined. They all had their hurdles to get over and each had their own adversity to overcome throughout the whole show. Such a strong group man.
Heroes come in all colors is a line I think about when it comes to superheroes. I felt for Sky and was so proud of him. I grew with Power Rangers and I loved watching it as well as played with the toys. Good video
Sometimes I like to think Jack came back to SPD but with a different team. I liked him too much to see him leave suddenly 😢 but then again he earned his new lifestyle doing whatever he … did lol
I wish we saw more of the Rangers switching colors throughout the seasons. Maybe not a frequent thing, but in special moments where it's an organic thing like with Sky, that'd be cool.
For as powerful as this two-parter was, I feel it was a major misstep by the showrunners to not do original footage for the pre-Battlizer fight against Mirloc. Even as a kid, I found it incredibly confusing why this important battle for Sky... had the first part of it taken up by the nothing character that was the Omega Ranger. It wasn't until watching Dekaranger that I learned that this plotline was originally meant for DekaBreak (best 6th senshi imo) and the first fight was recycled Sentai footage. I feel it would've been more satisfying if Sky had been the one to stand alone against Mirloc, maybe even Jack throwing Sky the morpher near the start of the fight before being captured. It just feels a bit cheap that the first part of the episode is taken up by the wasted potential of the Omega Ranger...
Exactly. Genio’s fight will always belongs to Tetsu. Hell, it was a weak excuse and how tremendous that Disney butchers and downgrade Dekabreak from Vice SPD to Timeranger sequel ranger called Timebreak😒🤦♂️
Man the Disney seasons up till RPM really had a lot of soul. The execution was a hit or miss but you could feel that the actors, the script writers, directors (basically everyone other than Disney themselves) really cared about the show
cost effective. Greg Aronowitz has said before Disney was cutting back on the budget for Power Rangers, and we know that to be the case for the shows that succeeded SPD as well. Same reason In Space suits were repurposed for the A-Squad team, and even Boom’s Orange Ranger
It's been years since I watched SPD but I always saw it as a favorite, and it was the last series I watched, as I was getting older and Power Rangers was "for kids" OBVIOUSLY. Them having powers was also unique and I always liked that. Looking back, it's so cool that they essentially had Stand abilities.
when Jack saying Heroes come in all colors at the start, i knew this was going to be a fantastic 2 parter. great episodes and character character arc for Sky.
This moment was iconic, unparalleled - weve never had anything quite like it before or since. SPD is one of the show's best seasons. Second best Disney season.
I remember this episode; it is mindblown for the kid me that having the idea of blue getting lent the power of red with backstory behind it. You know what is better, after this Jack and Sky synergy became even more solid as a team.
Spd is my favorite out of all the power rangers series and seeing the development of both jack and sky was pretty cool at first they didn't like one another but over time they both taught one another different things on being a ranger. When sky was blinded by his friend returning Jack knew something was up. Jack was always there for sky
That's why SPD is one of the best seasons ever. The development and the strong cast it has is one of the most powerful in all PR franchise. Sometimes people think RPM is the best in Disney era but, hey, SPD is really top too.
I would have been great to see jack and sky have a serious 1v1 fight against each other as rangers in the form of a spiteful sparring match or something. I also wanted to see who was really the more skilled ranger on terms of physical combat.
You know what all the jumping flipping and shenanigans in every different flavor of the season I sometimes forget the rangers stories can be very deep and dark
He said it talking about colours of the team but also meant skin colour. I get people can get scared to know a kids show was trying something but obviously it was made to be that way especially with the two characters that were used in the scene. (which disney was known for doing alot) It makes me interested in the tension of their leader-subordinate dynamic in the beginning as deeper than disdain for each other just because he was a cop that saw him stealing then having to work with him. (Even tho he was stealing robin hood-esque style for the community which even more as a power ranger you would expect him to chill on that by the 3rd episode)
SPD is one of my favorite seasons Mostly because of the fight choreo incorporating a lot of capoeira, and I tend to like cop shows. I also dig the little nod to Hawaiian Five-oh in the theme song
I've always been a bit mixed on the lesson of this two-parter. While yes, heroes do in fact come in all colors, it's dulled by the fact that until they get SWAT mode, Jack is the only one who can use the battlizer, effectively lowering the combined potential strength of team. Note that this whole conflict only started when Sky was told only the red ranger was compatible with the battlizer technology. If all the rangers had access to it, he wouldn't care about the whole "I'm blue and you're red" thing again. Heroes may comes in all colors, but as we see here, some colors are better than others.
I feel he wouldn’t care in the Battlizer sense, but that lingering jealousy of the red powers would still be in effect to some degree I believe I fully see your point ~
Fun fact, this is the first battlelyser to appear in the super sentai version. Secondary fun fact the battlelyser appeared after the American version was done in crossover event of with the Mystic force version of the sentai.
The line was pretty much Jack saying to Sky and be extension the audience that it's not just the red ranger that makes power rangers, it's all of them as a team working together, every one of the team has the qualities to be a leader regardless of who they are and what colour they are wearing.
I watched both Timeranger and Dekaranger.... Both shows literally 'nukes' timeforce and SPD from orbit...the feels those shows have, the stakes! Also timeforce tech is from hundreds of years ahead of SPD but they digitize the enemies in SPD and freeze the enemies in timeforce, the technology has gone backwards
Power Rangers had the courage to do what LuPat did not: have the Red Ranger police officer step down from his status in order to be in a place that he felt he belonged and would have the most positive impact
What are you talking about? Keiichiro/Patren 1 stepping down makes no sense in any sort of context. He was driven by his passion for arresting criminals and protecting civilians. How does LuPat have anything to do with SPD or your point? Or are you just hating on LuPat and finding any opportunity to bring up your dislike for it?
how to tell someone didn't watch LuPat: Kei literally always felt at home being a police officer. The series DRIVES IT INTO YOUR HEAD THAT HE'S A GOOD GUY and the most fitting officer of the 3
@@darknessknows1235 He offered to quit to save Kairi because he felt he couldn’t do it as a cop, but Kairi didn’t accept it and told him to continue. On one hand that’s a touching display of love from both of them, but also I do wish the show had the guts to actually have him quit because I think it would have made for a more interesting story beat. That’s all :)
@@darrinburrell6367see, this is why Power Rangers (and fans) always good at bullshiting Sentai’s theme especially downgrading rangers theme like Dekabreak from Vice SPD as a sixth ranger to Timeranger sequel ranger as extra ranger😒
I mean isn't Keiichiro always had his being a police officer a passion for him (kinda like Sky), like I'm actually surprised many seem to like Jack stepping down on SPD now, when earlier it felt like he's reverting his development by not continuing what he started, although now some are OK with it because if fits Jack's character and example of subverting expectations.
I thought this was such a good episode for two reasons. The ender and what the red ranger told blue YOU MADE A MISTAKE AND YOU WANNA RUN AWAY INSTEAD OF FIXING IT? Never run from your mistakes
Also new gen shows were that have more then the 5 main and the 3 or 4 surppot rangers deal with that many rangers in such bad ways but with shows from old gen like dino charge all the rangers fit in well and created a good story that balanced and used all the rangers to make it fit in and not clutted
This might sound wrong and I could just be projecting but I feel like Schuyler was written to be an “undercover racist.” Not only is Jack the only SPD Ranger of color but he is also the only black character in the entire show (to the personal exceptions of Grumm and Commander Birdie, Doggie is pushing it a little). From Day 1 you can see how vastly different Sky, Bridge, and Syd treat Z compared to Jack. Bridge is welcoming, Sydney while confused is open to the idea of new members regardless of “status,” and Sky just doesn’t care about Jack. He has no issues with Z being the new Yellow Ranger but the moment he sees Jack in Red, all Hell broke loose. I get his father was the previous Red but to take it out on the guy who was given that mantle by your mentor, should say a lot. Growing up I loved seeing someone that looked like me as the Red Ranger. TJ, Shane, Jack, Scott, and Tyler (yes I consider Shane and Tyler black) are the few black Reds we have in the franchise.
Honestly, in ANY proper reality, Sky would've been chosen as the Red Ranger. His superior experience, respect for the role, and general professionalism made him the most natural choice--as opposed to Jack's untrained, rule-breaking, out-of-the-box, diamond-in-the-rough persona. We all know that Jack only got the role so that the screenwriters could milk the (admittedly great) tension between him and Sky and play out the common trope of elevating the most uncommon or unexpected individual to leadership to build drama.
Hands down my favorite Power Rangers, not only for having one of the best designs IMO, but also for the stories and how the characters developed. I admit I didn't get the possible undertone of "heroes come in all colors", despite being black myself, but it's a very positive message to place there, especially because they all work as a team. Sure, Red Ranger is the leader, but they all have something to add and together, they're stronger.
