When the War Came to Cowra

An insightful historical overview. The changing nature of nationalities and status (POW or internee) assigned to each compound is fascinating. Camp 12D was also used to house Italian POWs who were amoebic dysentery sufferers and carriers from December 1941 - July 1943. Camp 12C was also used to house Italian internees from Queensland April 1942 - April 1943.

I look forward to a new cultural project and a video from the Cowra Council and the Cowra Breakout Association which will remember, for the sake of historical memory, in the most documented way possible, the presence and contribution of the Italian military (POW of the British) present in the two sectors of Cowra Camp n. 12, from the second half of 1941 to March 1947, in the number of 5,000. Also worth mentioning are the friendship initiatives that took place between Italy and Australia after the end of 2MW.
