The end is coming for each of us, and eventually the universe itself will end. The effects of nuclear fallout only enhance and accelerate our fates. Morbid curiosity is just a natural part of our psychology. Don’t get too hung up. There’s a time for everything. Focus on life now, and the rest will take care of itself when it does.
I love the way Briggs uses comedy in this play. I was laughing at the “commuters”, Jim’s mangling of abbreviations and their utter ignorance. It’s practically Shakespearean, especially when it’s in a tragedy.
I remember when this was first broadcast. I'd been to a couple of CND public meetings, and they were very sobering experiences. Coupled with the showing of 'The War Game' (originally made but banned in 1965), and 'Threads' it was a very worrying time indeed...
I remember when in 1948, I was playing with my ventriloquist dummy which I had gotten for Christmas and I heard the soldiers coming in the Piñata store in Atlanta Georgia and I hid the dummy in the attic..🤾🏼♀️👲💃🏼⛄
As much as I liked John Mills voice for James in the original film it does make me wonder what the film could have been if they did get Peter Sallis who did his voice in this audio play
I remember when I was a kid, living in England during last decade of the so called "cold war". intreasting times to be a kid😱. Anyways I was around 1 of my best friends house, watching this cartoon.I asked my friends father "dave" , who was ex army. What's the best advice, if you know there's going to be a nuclear strick on uk? We lived in Portsmouth (well we lived in a place called gosport, which is nxt to Portsmouth. that had loads of armed forces bases dotted around Gosport Portsmouth) dave said "he would just go out into the bck yard with few deck chairs & drink glass full off whiskey start smoking again & watch the nuclear explosions. Because there's nothing you can do but except it's the end. 20yrs later I learnt that Soviet union had upto 6 to 7 nuclear missiles targets were for gosport and Portsmouth because of naval yards ammo stockpiles and other naval bases dotted around area. So basically you couldn't hide from what's coming? These things end up happening vary quickly. That's why even know not alot scares me because if you lived through the cold war? U knew at bck of your mind that your life could change for the worse. So you just had to live your life the best you could do. ✌️
I feel as if they were both the perfect picks. They are both the perfect voices for both Jim and Hilda. They made me feel terrible for both Jim and Hilda, nearly on the level that the comic did.
Normal people living ordinary lives tortured by Eton educated elites who know what's best for us. I expect James and Hilda and their ilk were calculated as acceptable losses. Couldn't happen today.
If trump gets back in....i fear this scenario... I remember being in the police in the 80s and the nuclear training...if the bomb dropped you had to go to the nearest police station to report for duty...madness
The alternative is no more favorable. A corrupt old politician who barely knows who he is, and a VP with the temperament of a Maury guest. Disaster can and will come from either "side."
did anyone ever see threads in the 80s??!! not the best special effects but non the less a pretty alarming show…watch it if you’ve not seen…it’s what would happen if bomb dropped on industrial city…sheffield was chosen due to its manufacture of steel :(
