The best thing is that you had the flexibility to pivot without ruining your whole trip, unlike a traditional "vacation." The entire 2nd half of May and all of June is a big pivot for us and we're lucky enough that we could do it with minimal headaches.

Yes it all comes down to the freedom of flexibility. I am sad I missed the opportunity, but in the big picture it was really just a blip on the radar.

Cheese is a liquid diet. ;) Ugh. Tough loss. Glad you got a credit and you are so right- perspective is everything. Yours is amazing. Hoping you can rebook soon. We are white knuckling a potential pivot ourselves this summer… The area that we were planning to spend three weeks later this summer, is gearing up for potential forest fires. Things will go wrong, but thanks for this good reminder.

Yup, sometimes you just have to roll with it. I hope the forest fires are less than projected!

You can have a great fondue in Paris or in Lyon if you are still there, not like Switzerland but close!! I am sorry to hear you were sick, and glad you are better!! Nurses do like to diagnosed themselves :) I do the same and you were not alone, David and Peggy were there!! Another trip to plan to Switzerland one day!!

We did get some fondue in Paris! It wasn't the same though, it was more like a melted Brie so a very different taste. So not what I really wanted but it was still yummy!

We just pivoted from summer in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes to Vermont and Quebec because we were exhausted from driving and couldn't drive another 700 miles. Sure, we are disappointed but not really just different. Mont Tremblant for 2 weeks then Quebec City! We are ok with the $ penalty.

Isn't it amazing how sometimes the relief of avoiding something you aren't excited about (like all that driving) in itself can bring a lot of contentment? I was very sad about missing Switzerland but I was so relieved to not have to take that bus ride. lol

Nurses? I’m the daughter of a nurse so I do the same thing and my husband loves to joke about it. I just finished a course of antibiotics after waiting far too long and dealing with some of the same issues (intermittent issues in South America) that worsened after a cruise. It is so inconvenient! Take care of your gut. 😊 we also had a pivot in Peru and need to go back.

Yeah we nurses can be stubborn. lol And I agree that health issues are almost always inconvenient.

I feel for you! Had issues like that and was afraid to eat anything or go anywhere. Because I just didn't know how I would be. But I got better and was able to enjoy my trip. I would love to travel with you guys! You would be so fun to be with.

I was lucky and found some REALLY YUMMY vegetable broth, so at least I wasn't totally going hungry. But it took a few days to calm down, I don't wish that on anyone!

Great video guys 👍. I always look back at my worst travel breakdowns and laugh as I tell the story. I like asking people I meet while traveling and ask them for their story of their worst travel disasters that they can look back at and laugh 🤣. Glad you’re feeling better Robb.

haha we are the same. Travel disasters are somehow more relatable than when everything is perfect. 😆

Take Daosin or similar enzyme for histamine. It's a gut saver 😊 But, maybe you just needed to enjoy one place a bit longer

These kinds of things have much less overall effect when we are traveling slower. But the day trip seemed like a good idea at the time we booked it. 😆

As Gabriele Rico says, flexibility is the essence of intelligence. I find after my initial resistance when something "goes wrong," I'm so much better now at relaxing into whatever is. ... I'm curious where you went after a week of being shut-down in the Galapagos. Where did you spend most of the pandemic?
@tendegreeswarmer

Flexibility is a hallmark skill for any long term traveler. I love making plans, but for one reason or another they change all the time. My brain sometimes resists right at first, but like you we've learned to just relax into it and sometimes it even turns out better than what the original plan would have been. We had intended to head to Mexico after the Galapagos, but with the shut down we just came home to Vegas and I went back to work at my old hospital for the duration. It was a bummer to cut our travels short but I ended up saving a lot more money for this trip, so it worked out. 😀

Hi Robb. I’m not sure when you filmed this video but I hope you’re feeling better now. (They say that nurses make the worst patients 😉). Perhaps your stomach was rebelling prematurely about the cheese fondue. 😅 Get Peggy to stroke your forehead with a damp cloth and sing the “Soft Kitty” song( #BigBangTheory) and I’m sure you’ll be better in no time. 😉

Nurses are terrible patients, it is true. lol And thank you, I'm feeling much better now, just took a few days of gut rest for the inflammation to go down.
