When To Feed Our Strawberries? As a super easy, low-maintenance crop, you'll be pleased to know that you only have to feed your strawberry mother plants twice a year. We fertilize or amend them in the fall after he last berry is picked, and then we give them a boost at one other key time.
Right now! In today's Quickie we'll look at when to fertilize your strawberry patch and containers this spring, and why its so important NOT to fertilize too late. As with everything, timing is key, and we'll cover that too!

Some of my bare root strawberries are flowering and I've been taking the flowers off since other channels say to do that the first year so the plant can focus on root growth and foliage. I guess that's the downside of growing from bare root instead of buying plants individually. That's ok though I can wait. Lol
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms Год назад
You;'re not too far back Nora. I've done both where I cut the flowers and where I didn't.....honestly, the gains weren't massively different. I say get berries when you can and just focus on soil health. You'll come out ahead in the long run. 🙂

I always fertilized with granular never really worked. Always had my strawberries make tiny leaves and be stunted in mid production. Trying to find good liquid natural fertilizer here in canada is very difficult. Chemical fertilizers everywhere. The only one i seem to be able to get is from MARPHYL. Who is theoricly a soil conditionner and needs repetitive applications. My soil has clay in it. During halloween i went chasing for leaf bags and put tons of it over my soil and raised bed. I hope it really does help in the long run. I bough a heat mat this year but all my seedling just died by damping off vs last year when i used nothing other than cheap seat trays. The only thing i did different this year is i didnt use perlite and vermiculite because i dont have any left only peat moss and a new seat tray, the ones made with clear plastic it came with the heat mat.

@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms Год назад
Hi Yanni, honestly, I've done them from seeds 5 or 6 times, and its kind of a pain. If you have access to known varieties, they are usually $2-3 a piece. Just get a few and you'll get runners first year and be on your way to strawberry nirvana without all the hassle!

Hey Sandra, mine is a seaweed extract... Very low in NPK.

Is fish emulsion a good option?

@@sandrascolari1854 Definitely good. Always check the NPK on the bottle though.

Can I just give them fish emulsion? Thanks jim80

Yup, that works.... Only issue is that stuff can be high in nitrogen, which will promote leaf growth over fruit growth. Never seen anyone eat the heaves, so you may not get the desired results.

Jeff, I wish you wold go into a little more detail. Like what is in the food? I love your videos but sometimes need a bit more time and info. Just asking.

For sure, but with these Quickies, you have to look at the INTENT of the video. If it was an all-encompassing video on fertilizing strawberries, it wouldn't fit into this format unfortunately. This Quickie already covered the what. :-) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vZdsdcWCdOw.html
