I once had a bad fungus outbreak. I could've cried coz quite a few plants got infected. I was doing my research and found that a remedy for some houseplants is the use of worm casting as the castings have their own beneficial enzymes and stuff in their that help fight off other fungus growth. I did notice that my houseplants that I had used the castings were entirely unaffected by the outbreak I had and thought I'd give it a try. I sprinkled some on the medium of my orchids and it did actually end up killing the fungus that was spreading on my plants! Since then (it was about half a year now) my orchids haven't had any fungus outbreak, medium looks super healthy and my orchids have been doing fabulously! Dunno if it would work for everyone, but figured I'd share as it saved me from having to repot sooo many orchids!

Hi MOG (MissOrchidGirl) I absolutely love your videos and I have binge watching them for a few weeks now. With you as an inspiration, I have grown my orchid collection from one paph to 3 paphs, 2 phals, and 2 catts. I am truly loving this experience. Also have one butterwort plant and some seeds started. Please keep making the wonderful videos. Thank you very much in advance for off of the info and the enjoyment of growing these incredible plants.

As a beginner this is something I struggle with, especially with new purchases, (I’m still just so excited for blooms!) I re-potted a mini-phal that was struggling in compacted sphagnum moss and although the blooms dropped, I recently noticed new root tops. Totally worth it.

I just got a new Phalenopsis with the most beautiful big white blooms but it was potted in what seemed to be coconut fiber that was almost like dirt. There was a large sphagnum moss ball on the middle of the roots and the roots were beginning to die so I immediately repotted it into a bark mix by repotme. So far so good but it’s only been about 3 days.

Dear Danni, I’m a beginner who picked up this hobby after watching your videos. 😊 I’ve used your sphagnum moss method and managed to save my rootless orchid which has now grown at least 6 new roots and 2 new leaves since mar this year. I’ve recently purchased 2 phal bellina that comes in terracotta pots with sphagnum moss. I’ve repotted one of them in bark chips, stones and sphagnum moss but found that the exposed roots (previously buried within sphagnum moss) has dried up. Those within the bark chips are still wet and in bad shape now (slight rotted) as I tried to water/ spray them with water more frequently to save the exposed roots fr drying out. Any idea how I can prevent rot while keeping the exposed roots moist? By the way, I’m really thankful for your “save rootless orchids” videos. 😊

OMG I watched this yesterday and I should have seen it sooner. My phalanopsis orchid had mushrooms. I thought it was normal because of how much water I get in Florida, but I took it out yesterday and the bark was breaking down full of ants (eek). I repotted into fresh bark as gently as possible and used a bit of hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria and set an ant bait next to my orchid

I decided to repot my one phal orchid as I noticed its roots was struggling. Also noticed the pot was crowded with roots too growing around the base really close together, and also some the medium had that fungal white mold also it did have a smell when I repot it. It also had a moss plug. So it was just time to. It did finish flowering so i thought its better to do it now so it can recover. Not sure if the orchid will do well from here on out. This video shows me that I did the right thing but I'm scared it reacts bad.

Hi Danny, my phalaenopsis has a long section of old stem(?) in the middle from where leaves has dropped. The old roots are doing good but the plant is putting out a lot of new roots where there is green leaves. There’s too much roots so I’m thinking it’s time to repot. But is it better to repot the whole orchid into a bigger pot? Or should I cut it at the ‘old’ stem and plant the top part in a separate pot?
@annakuc771
@annakuc771 3 года назад
Hi, I think that depends on the old stem. Does it look dried out? Does new roots are big and long enough to support whole orchid? If 'yes' is the answer to those two questions then you can cut the dried part of the old stem. Remember to not cut anything that did not dried out or is rotten, orchid might feel stressed.
@joeyie
@joeyie 3 года назад
@@annakuc771 To me, the old stem looks dried out. I feel like it’s quite a big risky move so I’m contemplating whether I should bite the bullet and just cut them 😂 anyway, thank you for answering my questions!

Hi Dani, would you still repot an orchid after purchasing even if there are new growth? It's myrmecophilia seedling and it came with coconut chips. However, I can't see the roots to confirm its health but the chips doesn't look degraded but has a smell. I used peroxide on it for snails already.

Hi! I have a question. I repotted my orchid about 1,5 months ago. It had lots of root rot so I had to cut off a lot of roots. It is doing well now, but growing what looks to me to be new roots. It is very green, and I thought at first that it was a spike, but it is more thick than a spike and pointing downwards, so can it be a root? Is there anything I need to do to help it? I notice it is pointing down, so will it be able to pass through the potting medium, or do I need to make space for it to pass down? Would appreciate your input a lot!

Hi! It is probably a new root. Spikes grow up… You don’t have to do anything it will attach itself to what ever media it comes in contact with or it could be an air root which grows out… usually 🙂. Happy Growing!

@@khalid_033 FYI I subscribe to the channel I recommended to you, (MIss Orchid Girl) who gave an explanation on "orchid seeds", and is practically non existent. I am from the Caribbean, and you would be surprised that orchids on my island are mostly imported. The only natural orchid which grows wild on the island I am from, is an epidendrum specie and vanilla! Apart from that, we have a nursery which grows and sells dendrobiums, vandas, phalaenopsis and a few other major species. So - there is no such type of "orchid seed".
