And then the docs do it wrong. They don't have you sit and talk and relax first. They often just put on the cuff and take a reading. And they dangle your feet off the table. And your arm is not at heart level.Etc etc.

Taking your own blood pressure, imo, is HUGE! When I first went to the cardiologist, the first appointment, I was so nervous and scared to be there. I knew I was going to be taking a stress test and was going to be hooked up to a monitor, I was having hip and knee problems and was worried I'd fall off the treadmill (funny how they have a stationary bike right there for you, just in case...NO EXCUSES!). Plus, I had a hard time finding parking and was running later than I wanted, so I was rushing to find the right place I needed to be. So, of course, my usual 120/70 was more like 140/90! I couldn't believe how high it was, and I told them that it never runs that high and I wasn't sure they believed me. Of course, they had me just sit and relax for about 15 or 20 minutes and it finally came down. But having numbers with me would have saved a lot of time.

I apologize for the off topic but i wanna ask something looks a little confusing... I am on betablocker (propanalol) 20mg + 20mg for anxiety control (don't work very well but meh) and i wanna do sport for loose weight and build some muscles... I am 43 years old, my heart is ok but i do a sedentary life and honestly... I am done with that and wanna change something. I never found a clear answer about the betablockers and sport... Clearly the betablockers slow down the heartrate, so you can't reach the necessary heartrate you need for sport... But is same at my dosages? I mean... Is so low... 40mg total at day is the very minimum as long i know... What you doctors think?

Why is it most Doctors do not tell patients how and why to eat healthy and exercise... also about things like magnesium, vitamin D and other vitamins that become depleted due to age and lifestyle...and the fact that there is no correlation between the use of stain drugs and the decrease in heart attacks..healthy life style is the key to a healthy heart ... people make choices ... I feel Doctors should at least tell the patients the truth as to why they are unhealthy..and then the patients will make the choice to become healthy or not..at least they were told or should I say warned ahead of time... I do realize some heart and or physical conditions are not caused by unhealthy life styles although most are.
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 3 года назад
Hi Patty. Doctors do talk about exercise and healthy eating but patients don't listen. Do you think most people don't know that eating healthy and exercising regularly is good for them? As for the statins, we would disagree but that is up to you to take a statin or not. Elevated LDL is a very specific risk factor for a cardiac event. Second symptom nerve pain I. Left wrist and and arm before and after testing positive for covid. Covid negative for now yay. But wheezing just started. Third sign abdominal swelling. Fourth sign fatigue. Fifth sign anxiety. I'm gonna book an appointment and see a cardiologist just to rule out asthma since I do have a cat. Also had pneumonia in past to hope is not heart issue and just a bronchitis thing. So not sure if a cardiologist can detect it but I loose nothing just gain knowledge.

Three years ago I went through preliminary tests and was given an appointment to have a stent inserted. I drove to the hospital with my overnight bag. But after further testing I was prepped, then told I would need a double bypass. I could elect to have it then or wait to be scheduled in the next few months. My wife was back at home 40 miles away. After a few minutes of thought, I elected to have it done right away. They allowed my wife time to arrive. It literally came down to the team tracking her progress. When she was coming up the elevator, they started to wheel me into surgery. We met for a minute in the hallway. I recovered in 6 days and went home. Life can change in a minute.🙂

Found this very helpful. My husband is recovering from mitral valve repair, open heart surgery. This happened when he saw a cardiologist for a-fib & the endoscopy revealed the hugely leaking valve. Been quite the “ journey”. He’d been fatigued for quite a while before we went to our Doc for an EKG. other twist to this is that he had endocarditis 4 years prior. Our Dr says that’s 100% responsible for his condition. He’s recovering fairly well, has a pacemaker - current meds are basically BP meds & aspirin. Don't be shy as a patient when you know there is something going on with your body. Make it known there is something abnormal going on and be persistent. It took me years to get properly diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I had chest pains every now and then for years. I also felt like I was burning my lungs with heavy exertion (Running/Motocross, etc.). The signs were not obvious as I never had a heart attack, so there were never any abnormalities on the EKG or the blood tests. Finally got on a tread mill which led to getting the proper referrals and tests to come to a diagnosis. Bam! My entire life explained in a single diagnosis. I always though I was just out of shape, but in the end I just was not pumping enough blood.

Eleven years ago at age 59 from nowhere while driving, the sides of my chest hurt so bad it pulled me over in the seat but I let it go, made excuses what it could be. The next day same pain with a very stiff left jaw and elbow. One stent and eleven years later and I'm fine. I ignored all the signs and almost paid for it with my life. Apparently we men aren't that smart, we think " it will never happen to me" well it will. On Tuesday the cardiologist took an EKG. I watched the eyes of the tech who was takin' my EKG. Her eyes got really large ! She left and the doctor came in to inform me that I was having an event ! They told me to go to the hospital about a mile away. I drove there. Once at the hospital I received great care. I had a five day "event" and the lower portion of my heart doesn't pump as it should. My main artery was blocked 98%. A recent artery exam showed the stent to be fully open and clear. You don't need to have terrible pain while having a heart attack.

Great BP, I am 75, and a white male with some family history, so the Framingham algorithm wants to reduce my 10 year risk. The only way is to reduce the cholesterol score which is good, but the statin is causing muscle pain primarily in the hips and thighs. Please, any comments. I know, talk to your primary provider, but she is now on mat leave for who knows how long.

I’m 26 years old I have been having palpitations since may and it’s still on going for me, I’ve seen a cardiologist got several ECG’S done came normal, got an echocardiogram done as well but they said it was normal but I’m always having high heart rate even when I’m resting, I can’t seem to wash my face properly without my heart rate going 112-116 I’ve been super concerned I had a monitor on for 15 days and I was told my high heart rate was nothing to be worried about but it worries me I get chest aching sometime which worries me more are there any other tests I need to get done to figure out why it’s been going on for so long it scares me along with that I have asthma too so with everything that’s going on I’m very uncomfortable with the heart palpitations

Thank you for your videos! I'm 30 and had been feeling a rather odd chest discomfort which later I found out to be likely to due to spine issues/bad posture. I was sent to a cardiologist to dismiss chances I had heart related issues and found an up to 40% blockage in my LAD. Unlikely to cause me any issues in short term but kinda risky to long term. There's simply a lot that can be done if you preventively reach out a cardiologist, but unfortunately people will often only remember them when things are bad. I hope that with preventive medicine I'll be able to avoid a serious cardiac event.

When it started happening to me it was triggered twice in two weeks by eating salty food, but it was the same food I had eaten before with no problems. I literally rode it out both times. That was a mistake, but the third time I went to the medical clinic telling them "I think I'm having a heart attack", and they swarmed me with the best care ever instantly, called the ambulance, sent me to the ER and saved my life. I had 3 stents put in because it was a bifurcation. They said my heart took little to no damage because I drove myself to the clinic just in time, even though I was having the jaw and chest pain a couple of times in the two weeks prior.

if you have a blood pressure, of 110/60, is that a concern, thinking of pulse pressure? 71 years old. I've read the difference shouldn't be greater than 40 (ideally). Curious. Also does a low diastolic like 55 or 60 mean perhaps that valves might not be closing properly, thus not maintaining pressure? Would this perhaps make you feel dizzy upon suddenly standing and starting to walk?

One cardiologist says surgery to repair valve and a single artery CABG at the same time. But a second opinion suggest I don't mess with the blocked artery because collaterals are working . Confused. I am not asking for advice for a decision. I want to know why the differences.

I had episodes of chest pain and feeling my heart was racing at times some pressure just a odd feeling and like I couldn't get a good breath in..if I stopped what I was doing sat down or squatted it would easy off.. I was born with mvp no biggey just never could talk and run at the same time..I was refered to a cardiologist I had been on Norvasc for bp .well controlled. I was a marathon runner ...I had a stress test and the doctor kept asking me if I was ok..the nurses to..my bp would jump from 178/96 to 198/110..sometimes 200/114...I was determined to remain calm..I'm in a hospital I'm safe I thought...the doctor said your nervous aren't you? I said no I'm just really exhausted..my pulse go from 98 to 188 or more... I don't get white coat syndrome.. ..the most bizarre thing was the injection made my butt yes my butt w numb like it weighed 300 pounds now that scared me..the doctor said it was usual but it would pass and it did.....he asked again if I was okay. I assume because of my numbers....I said your the doctor you tell me...so he said I was fine I could go...I got to the lobby I felt nauseated weak sweaty and collapsed my legs wouldn't hold me....it was a mess trying to get to the ER another story ...my Potassium was 2.0...they said it was just a little low so pumped me up with Potassium sent me home I was fine..i guess its just menopause that keeps kicking my butt.. maybe it's all in my head and I'm just getting old as dirt
