my chow mix bear of 13 1/2 years, was super intuitive, happy, and all heart throughout his life, he ate, home cooked meals, of course I gave him kibble, but as soon as I started realizing, it was all crap, I quickly switched him to home cooked meals, especially throughout his senior years so I really appreciate this channel, as it teaches us, things, and opens our eyes to, other avenues, that we can take with our dogs

This is very good information. I have had numerous dogs that DO NOT vocalize or complain when they are in pain. I try to keep a baseline of their heart-rate, temperature, fluid and food intake, bowel movement and kidney out-flow, how their gum and teeth appear, and if they are older - a blood-panel. Thanks so much for your time and the care you show for animals. I love my dogs and prevention and monitoring really is important to their daily and life-long health. My dogs say, "RUFF, woof, woof, bark!" (Dog speak: "Thank you Dr. Jones!")

I know how to take a glucose reading from a drop of blood taken from the earlobe, but how do you measure the blood pressure of a cat or dog? surely you cannot use a cuff like on a human.

Is there anything natural you can suggest for a 15 year old cat diagnosed with hyperthyroidism? He takes the thyroid meds (2 pills per day, 12 hours apart) but I have a very hard time giving them to him. Tried putting them in his food - even crushing them - but he either avoids the pill when it's whole or won't eat the food when it's crushed in it. I hope there is an alternative. Thanks for any advice:)

This is not only useful but essential for all animal carers. I wish and will always wish I'd seen your video 3 weeks ago, mid March my vet of 15 years told me my cat was well and just a 'naughty' cat for not eating, this was after 8 visits and 3 blood tests in 2 and half months after she swallowed cotton string, I pointed out to my vet that she wasn't eating or drinking water and vomiting after I seringed water, also I pointed out her gums were pale almost yellow and shouldn't they b pink/red? but he insisted her blood tests and gums good, and just a naughty cat, prescribed her anti depressants, I trusted his advice and she hid her suffering, she died of kidney failure 6 weeks later. She was only 4 years of age. Your videos help save those precious lives and pain, also confirm our instinct, thank u!

Dr Jones my dog have itchy skin and I could not tell what was causing him . I saw many small red dots in his skin (look like wound) especially behind the ears the head and if I used my fingers to touched it it feel like tiny dots . if I used my fingers to scratch it I would see something white come out from it skin/fur and it look like dandruff and this is also same when I used the flea comb and my dog does not like me to comb him he would try to turned around try to run away like he feel pain and he also can't stand the hairdryer when I blow him after his bath . My dog is black it is very hard to see anything under nake eyes so I alway use my fingers to feel it then looked into his skin . But a month ago I caught a small tick and I told my vet and she say this isn't a serious problem .I did not see any tick later on.

Spot on comment about when to call the vet. Our cat has the best of both worlds in East TN.. He can go run up and down the trees-yes, run, or stay inside . He comes and goes pretty much as he pleases. One afternoon, I let him in the door and noticed an unusual small bulge in his side. I called the vet thinking an appointment next morning, the Vet said bring him in ASAP. . He had an abcess, and was prescribed antibiotics. It was almost as if he suddenly knew he was sick when we arrived home. He laid around the house for about 48 hours before resuming his normal activities. No telling what would have happened if I had waited until the next day. I try to know that I don't know, if that makes sense.

How do you feel about breast cancer in dogs . My Gordon Setter had a lump on her breast and it grew into a cluster , I was told she had some long name of cancer , and that surgery to remove it before it got that big , it would only make it spread more quickly , and that chemo would not help , and that it would only make her suffer more . We finally out her to sleep after the tumors burst open , even though she seemed like she was just fine . They had her on Prednisone for a year . And how do you feel about that medication ?🤗

Hi dr My shitzu is almost 12 years old , she has a ear tumor almost 3 years ago Now it’s getting bigger . I clean with warm salt water n put flush cleaning Sometimes she has ear infection I give Optic ointment The vet recommended surgery to remove the ear tumor . But she is almost 12 years old , I’m afraid she has heart or kidney failure for her age Not good for ear surgery. Please advise

Excellent video. Received your book from Amazon. LOVE IT!!! Thank you for writing it. For pets who are on the heart meds and others life time meds that have the side effects how do we move them to the alternative methods instead? I do see the alternative approaches in each chapter, but when wanting to go to the alternative approach, is there a process (formula) to build up the alternative methods and then to decrease and phase out the lifetime pharmaceutical meds? Maybe you have this in a video or will be bringing this forward in one of the future videos or the next edition of your brilliant book. I use only alternative treatments for myself, but was not so fortunate for my 20 pound 13 year old male Pom. He is on the life time heart meds (for the last few months) and I would like to trade those pills for the alternatives. I am ordering your dog formula as a supplement and adding the Omega oils and probiotics. It might be something to consider talking about in the future. I really enjoy your daily lesson. Thank you for all that you do! Happy Canada Day a few days late!

Hi Barbara, Thanks for the kind words. Once you are on conventional meds, you need to work with your veterinarian to transition over to certain selected holistic options. For instance with hear medications, you can potentially substitute dandelion leaf tincture for lasix, but you would do this with your vet knowing. As for the specific heart meds, it depends on the enxtent of the disease, and you may not be able to come off them ( ie stay on Fortekor) All the meds have different half lives, so it is medication dependent.
@barbaradennis9028
@barbaradennis9028 8 лет назад
Thank you for bringing up the half life of medications and when and if it is possible to move to alternatives. Never thought of that. I will see if my vet, who is not trained in alternative meds and readily admits to this, if he can make a referral to a vet who is trained in both. Keep up the fantastic work! It is needed.

Why would a cat hide just out of site for two days straight? Our cat was acting normal up until yesterday when she didn't "come home" and we still didn't see her today until my son went up on the roof (where she likes to lay on hot days) and found her. After eating she tried to leave again, but we brought her back inside for overnight observation. We don't understand why she hid out of site and didn't come in when we got home (which she usually does when we drive up). Do you have any idea why the strange behavior all of a sudden?
@VeterinarySecrets

Hi Dr. Jones! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with so many issues going on right now. I try to do everything non evasively from home first. Especially after my loss of my black lab from cancer last June. "which is how I found you" After what I went through I continued to do more research & bought your book as well. I have a pit bull that has a very bad skin issue "bad itch, hair loss, elephant skin & sores" I have been feeding him a raw diet now for over a year. No rice or potato at all. It contains meat, fish oil & egg shell. I recently added kale, blueberries, apples, & spinach and he gets turmeric golden paste as well separately. I am using Nzymes products for skin & have been now for a couple months. I was using SoJos brand dehydrated food, I've tried the one where I add the meat and the one with goat meat already in it, but the problem is that they still have alfalfa in them and my Harley still itches and the expense was $75 every 14 days. He has sores that randomly get better/worse & some go away, but others appear. Reason I am writing you is that due to a big weight loss on the SoJos, I have decided to go back to my meat diet as I stated in the beginning, I recently added kale, blueberries, apples and spinach for a more nutritional balance. Now I am seeing blood in his urine along with more frequent potty times. Is this just a coincidence or did I cause this? I'm hoping to get a urinalysis and blood test done asap, but this food thing is getting out of hand. I've spent countless hours cutting up chicken, beef, pork loin, etc;, please help.

Hi Lori, 1st rule out mange- ask your vet to treat with revolution 2nd get the allergy under control short term- EFA's, antihistamines, licorice tincture, topical bath with green tea/castille soap/apple cider vinegar 3rd then do a proper food trial 6-8 weeks

so i have a chi and she has a very loose tooth on top behind the canine tooth should i just pull it or pay the 100$ and have the vet pull it? i move it around a few times a day to see if it will work it's way out but so far no. i try pulling on it some and she doesn't yelp or wine, and i see the root moving under the gum. i pulled my kids teeth when they were young that were loose like this. if i could send a video i would but don't know how. thanks
